ददि॒र् हि॒ म॒ह्यं व॒रुणो दिवः॒ कवि॒र् व॒चोभिर् उग्रै॒र् नि॒ रिणामि ते विष॒म् ।
खात॒म् अ॒खातम् उत॒ सक्त॒म् अग्रभम् इ॒रेव ध॒न्वन् नि॒ जजास ते विष॒म् ॥१॥

dadír hí máhyaṃ váruṇo diváḥ kavír vácobhir ugráir ní riṇāmi te viṣám |
khātám ákhātam utá saktám agrabham íreva dhánvan ní jajāsa te viṣám ||1||

Ведь Варуна, поэт неба, дал (их) мне -
(Этими) ужасными заклинаниями я распускаю твой яд.
(Что) закопано-не закопано, а также (что) пристало, я схватил.
Как питье в пустыне иссяк твой яд.

Varuna, Sage of heaven, hath given me the gift: with spells of
mighty power I draw thy poison out.
Dug up, not dug, adherent, I have seized it fast: low hath thy
venom sunk like water in the sands.

Varuna, the sage of heaven, verily lends (power) to rne. With mighty charms do I dissolve thy poison. The (poison) which has been dug, that which has not been dug, and that which is inherent, I have held fast. As a brook in the desert thy poison has dried up.

avś_05.013.02.

य॒त् ते अ॒पोदकं विषं॒ त॒त् त एता॒स्व् अग्रभम् ।
गृह्णा॒मि ते मध्यम॒म् उत्तमं॒ र॒सम् उता॒वम॒म् भिय॒सा नेशद् आ॒द् उ ते ॥२॥

yát te ápodakaṃ viṣáṃ tát ta etā́sv agrabham |
gr̥hṇā́mi te madhyamám uttamáṃ rásam utā́vamám bhiyásā neśad ā́d u te ||2||

Тот твой безводный яд -
Я схватил его у тебя в этих (водах). Я хватаю твой средний, Верхний сок, а твой нижний Пусть сгинет тогда (сам) от страха!

All the non-fluid portion of thy venom, I receive in these.
I take thy middlemost, thy highest, lowest juice: may it be
spent and lest by reason of thy fear.

That poison of thine which is not fluid I have confined within these (serpents?). I hold fast the sap that is in thy middle, thy top, and in thy bottom, too. May (the sap) now vanish out of thee from fright!

avś_05.013.03.

वृ॒षा मे र॒वो न॒भसा न॒ तन्यतु॒र् उग्रे॒ण ते व॒चसा बाध आ॒द् उ ते ।
अहं॒ त॒म् अस्य नृ॒भिर् अग्रभम् र॒सं त॒मस इव ज्यो॒तिर् उ॒द् एतु सू॒र्यः ॥३॥

vŕ̥ṣā me rávo nábhasā ná tanyatúr ugréṇa te vácasā bādha ā́d u te |
aháṃ tám asya nŕ̥bhir agrabham rásaṃ támasa iva jyótir úd etu sū́ryaḥ ||3||

Мой рев - бык, (он) как гром сквозь тучу.
Грозным твоим заклинанием я прогоняю тут (яд) для тебя. Я схватил тот сок его вместе с мужами. Как свет из мрака, пусть взойдет солнце!

Strong is my cry like thunder with the rainy cloud: with power-
ful incantation let thy strength be stayed.
I, with the men to aid, have seized that juice of his; as light
from out the gloom, let Sūrya rise on high

My lusty shout (is) as the thunder with the cloud: then do I smite thy (sap) with my strong charm. With manly strength I have held fast that sap of his. May the sun rise as light from the darkness!

avś_05.013.04.

च॒क्षुषा ते च॒क्षुर् हन्मि विषे॒ण हन्मि ते विष॒म् ।
अ॒हे म्रिय॒स्व मा॒ जीवीः प्रत्य॒ग् अभ्य् ए॑तु त्वा विष॒म् ॥४॥

cákṣuṣā te cákṣur hanmi viṣéṇa hanmi te viṣám |
áhe mriyásva mā́ jīvīḥ pratyág abhy ètu tvā viṣám ||4||

Взглядом твой взгляд я бью.
Ядом я бью твой яд.
О змея, умри! Не живи! Да перекинется яд на тебя!

I with this eye destroy thine eye, and with this poison conquer
thine.
Live not, O Snake, but die the death: back go thy venom on
thyself.

With my eye do I slay thy eye, with poison do I slay thy poison. O serpent, die, do not live; back upon thee shall thy poison turn!

avś_05.013.05.

कै॒रात पृ॒श्न उ॒पतृण्य ब॒भ्र आ॒ मे शृणुता॒सिता अ॒लीकाः ।
मा॒ मे स॒ख्युः स्तामा॒नम् अ॒पि ष्ठाताश्राव॒यन्तो नि॒ विषे॒ रमध्वम् ॥५॥

káirāta pŕ̥śna úpatr̥ṇya bábhra ā́ me śr̥ṇutā́sitā álīkāḥ |
mā́ me sákhyuḥ stāmā́nam ápi ṣṭhātāśrāváyanto ní viṣé ramadhvam ||5||

О кайрата, о пестрая, о травяная (?), о бурая! Слушайте меня, змеи черные, отвратные! Не попадайтесь на пути моему товарищу! Покойтесь в яде, давая о себе знать!

Listen to me, Black Snakes and hateful creatures, Lurker-in-
Grass, Karait, and Brown, and Spotty,
Approach not near the house my friend inhabits: give warning,
and rest quiet with your poison.

O kairāta, speckled one, upatrinya (grass-dweller?), brown one, listen to me; ye black repulsive reptiles, (listen to me)! Do not stand upon the ground of my friend; cease with your poison and make it known (to people?)!

avś_05.013.06.

असित॒स्य तैमात॒स्य बभ्रो॒र् अ॒पोदकस्य च ।
सात्रासाह॒स्याहं॒ मन्यो॒र् अ॒व ज्या॒म् इव ध॒न्वनो वि॒ मुञ्चामि र॒थां इव ॥६॥

asitásya taimātásya babhrór ápodakasya ca |
sātrāsāhásyāháṃ manyór áva jyā́m iva dhánvano ví muñcāmi ráthām̐ iva ||6||

У черной, у тайматы,
У бурой и у водяной (?),
У всепокоряющей - я отпускаю ярость,
Как (отпускают) тетиву у лука,
Как (отпускают мчаться) колесницы!

Even as the cord that strings the bow, I slacken, as it were, the
cars.
Of the All-conquering serpent's wrath, of the fierce rage of
Black, and Brown, Taimāta, and Apodaka.

I release (thee) from the fury of the black serpent, the taimāta, the brown serpent, the poison that is not fluid, the all-conquering, as the bowstring (is loosened) from the bow, as chariots (from horses).

avś_05.013.07.

आ॒लिगी च वि॒लिगी च पिता॒ च मता॒ च ।
विद्म॒ वः सर्व॒तो ब॒न्ध्व् अ॒रसाः किं॒ करिष्यथ ॥७॥

ā́ligī ca víligī ca pitā́ ca matā́ ca |
vidmá vaḥ sarváto bándhv árasāḥ kíṃ kariṣyatha ||7||

И алиги, и вилиги,
И отец, и мать -
Мы знаем вашу родню со всех сторон. Лишенные сока, что будете вы делать?

And Āligi and Viligi, their father and the mother too,—
What will ye do? Your venomed sap, we know, is utterly
powerless.

Both Āligī and Viligī, both father and mother, we know your kin everywhere. Deprived of your strength what will ye do?

avś_05.013.08.

उरुगू॒लाया दुहिता॒ जाता॒ दास्य् अ॒सिक्न्या ।
प्रत॒ङ्कं दद्रु॒षीणां स॒र्वासाम् अरस॒म् विष॒म् ॥८॥

urugū́lāyā duhitā́ jātā́ dāsy ásiknyā |
pratáṅkaṃ dadrúṣīṇāṃ sárvāsām arasám viṣám ||8||

Дочь (той) с широкой шишкой,
Рожденная от черной рабыни -
У всех (у них), бросающихся скользя, Яд лишен сока.

Daughter of Urugūlā, she-fiend whom the black, skinned mother
bare—
All female serpents poison who crept swiftly near is impotent.

The daughter of urugūlā, the evil one born with the black — of all those who have run to their hiding-place the poison is devoid of force.

avś_05.013.09.

कर्णा॒ श्वावि॒त् त॒द् अब्रवीद् गिरे॒र् अवचरन्तिका॒ ।
याः॒ का॒श् चेमाः॒ खनित्रि॒मास् ता॒साम् अरस॒तमं विष॒म् ॥९॥

karṇā́ śvāvít tád abravīd girér avacarantikā́ |
yā́ḥ kā́ś cemā́ḥ khanitrímās tā́sām arasátamaṃ viṣám ||9||

Ушастый дикобраз сказал это,
Спускаясь с горы:
"Кто бы ни были возникшие от копания, Яд у них совсем лишен сока".

Dwelling beside the mountain's slope, the quick-eared porcupine
exclaimed:
Of all these she-snakes homed in earth the poison is most
powerless.

The prickly porcupine, tripping down from the mountain, did declare this: 'Whatsoever serpents, living in ditches, are here, their poison is most deficient in force.'

avś_05.013.10.

ताबु॒वं न॒ ताबु॒वं न॒ घे॒त् त्व॒म् असि ताबु॒वम् ।
ताबु॒वेनारसं॒ विष॒म् ॥१०॥

tābúvaṃ ná tābúvaṃ ná ghét tvám asi tābúvam |
tābúvenārasáṃ viṣám ||10||

Табува, не табува,
Вовсе ты не табува.
С помощью табува яд лишен сока.

Tābuva or not Tābuva, thou verily art not Tābuva: poison is
killed by Tābuva.
Tastuva or not Tastuva, thou verily art not Tastuva: poison is
killed by Tastuva.

Tābuvam (or) not tābuvam, thou (O serpent) art not tābuvam. Through tābuvam thy poison is bereft of force.

avś_05.013.11.

तस्तु॒वं न॒ तस्तु॒वं न॒ घे॒त् त्व॒म् असि तस्तु॒वम् ।
तस्तु॒वेनारसं॒ विष॒म् ॥११॥

tastúvaṃ ná tastúvaṃ ná ghét tvám asi tastúvam |
tastúvenārasáṃ viṣám ||11||

Тастува, не тастува,
Вовсе ты не тастува.
С помощью тастува яд лишен сока.

Tastuvam (or) not tastuvam, thou (O serpent) art not tastuvam. Through tastuvarn thy poison is bereft of force.
