शमी॒म् अश्वत्थ॒ आ॒रूढस् त॒त्र पुंसु॒वनं कृत॒म् ।
त॒द् वै॒ पुत्र॒स्य वे॒दनं त॒त् स्त्रीष्व् आ॒ भरामसि ॥१॥

śamī́m aśvatthá ā́rūḍhas tátra puṃsúvanaṃ kr̥tám |
tád vái putrásya védanaṃ tát strīṣv ā́ bharāmasi ||1||

Ашваттха залез на шами,
Там произошло зачатие сына.
Это, действительно, приобретение сына, Это мы влагаем в женщин.

Asvattha on the Sami-tree. There a male birth is certified.
There is the finding of a son: this bring we to the women-folk.

The asvattha (ficus religiosa) has mounted the samī (mimosa suma): then a male child was produced. That, forsooth, is the way to obtain a son; that do we bring to (our) wives.

avś_06.011.02.

पुंसि॒ वै॒ रे॒तो भवति त॒त् स्त्रिया॒म् अ॒नु षिच्यते ।
त॒द् वै॒ पुत्र॒स्य वे॒दनं त॒त् प्रजा॒पतिर् अब्रवीत् ॥२॥

puṃsí vái réto bhavati tát striyā́m ánu ṣicyate |
tád vái putrásya védanaṃ tát prajā́patir abravīt ||2||

Ведь у мужчины есть семя.
Оно вливается в женщину.
Это, действительно, приобретение сына - Это сказал Праджапати.

The father sows the genial seed, the woman tends and fosters it.
This is the finding of a son: thus hath Prajāpati declared.

In the male, forsooth, seed doth grow, that is poured into the female. That, forsooth, is the way to obtain a son; that has been told by Pragāpati.

avś_06.011.03.

प्रजा॒पतिर् अ॒नुमतिः सिनीवाल्य् अ॑चीक्ल्̥पत् ।
स्त्रै॒षूयम् अन्य॒त्र द॒धत् पु॒मांसम् उ दधत् इह॒ ॥३॥

prajā́patir ánumatiḥ sinīvāly àcīkl̥pat |
stráiṣūyam anyátra dádhat púmāṃsam u dadhat ihá ||3||

Праджапати, Анумати,
Синивали создали форму.
Рожденье женщины пусть поместят они в другое место, Мужчину же пусть поместят сюда!

Prajāpati, Anumati, Sinivāli have ordered it.
Elsewhere may he effect the birth of maids, but here prepare a
boy.

Pragāpati, Anumati, and Sinīvālī have fashioned him. May he (Pragāpati) elsewhere afford the birth of a female, but here he shall bestow a man!
