य॒था मांस॒म् य॒था सु॒रा य॒थाक्षा॒ अधिदे॒वने ।
य॒था पुंसो॒ वृषण्यत॒ स्त्रियां॒ निहन्य॒ते म॒नः ।
एवा॒ ते अघ्न्ये म॒नो॒ ऽधि वत्से॒ नि॒ हन्यताम् ॥१॥

yáthā māṃsám yáthā súrā yáthākṣā́ adhidévane |
yáthā puṃsó vr̥ṣaṇyatá striyā́ṃ nihanyáte mánaḥ |
evā́ te aghnye mánó 'dhi vatsé ní hanyatām ||1||

Как мясо, как сура,
Как кости на игральной доске, Как мысль похотливого мужчины Прикована к женщине, Так, о неприкосновенная, мысль твоя Пусть будет прикована к теленку!

As wine associates with flesh, as dice attend the gaming-board,
As an enamoured man's desire is firmly set upon a dame,
So let thy heart and soul, O Cow, be firmly set upou thy calf.

As meat, and liquor, and dice (abound) at the gambling-place, as the heart of thf. lusty male hankers after the woman, thus shall thy heart, O cow, hanker after the calf!

yáthā puṃsó vr̥ṣaṇyatá striyā́ṃ nihanyáte mánaḥ |
evā́ te aghnye mánó 'dhi vatsé ní hanyatām ||2||

Как слон ходит
По пятам за слонихой,
Как мысль похотливого мужчины
Прикована к женщине,
Так, о неприкосновенная, мысль твоя
Пусть будет прикована к теленку!

As the male elephant pursues with eager step his female's track,
As an enamoured man's desire is firmly set upon a dame,
So let thy heart and soul, O Cow, be firmly set upon the calf.

As the elephant directs his steps after the steps of the female, as the heart of the lusty male hankers after the woman, thus shall thy heart, O cow, hanker after the calf!

yáthā pradhír yáthopadhír yáthā nábhyaṃ pradhā́v ádhi |
yáthā puṃsó vr̥ṣaṇyatá striyā́ṃ nihanyáte mánaḥ |
evā́ te aghnye mánó 'dhi vatsé ní hanyatām ||3||

Как косяк (колеса), как обод, Как ступица - к ободу, Как мысль похотливого мужчины Прикована к женщине, Так, о неприкосновенная, мысль твоя Пусть будет прикована к теленку!

Close as the felly and the spoke, fixt as the wheel-rim on the
nave,
As an enamoured man's desire is firmly set upon a dame,
So let thy heart and soul, O Cow, be firmly set upon thy calf.

As the felloe, and as the spokes, and as the nave (of the wheel is joined) to the felloe, as the heart of the lusty male hankers after the woman, thus shall thy heart, O cow, hanker after the calf!
