avś_08.001.01.

अ॒न्तकाय मृत्य॒वे न॒मः प्राना॒ अपाना॒ इह॒ ते रमन्ताम् ।
इहा॒य॒म् अस्तु पु॒रुषः सहा॒सुना सू॒र्यस्य भागे॒ अमृ॒तस्य लोके॒ ॥१॥

ántakāya mr̥tyáve námaḥ prānā́ apānā́ ihá te ramantām |
ihā́yám astu púruṣaḥ sahā́sunā sū́ryasya bhāgé amŕ̥tasya loké ||1||

Причиняющей конец Смерти поклон!
Вдохи и (выдохи) твои пусть останутся здесь!
Здесь пусть будет этот человек со (своей) жизненной силой —
В доле у солнца, в мире бессмертия!

Homage to Death the Ender! May thy breathings, inward and
outward, still remain within thee.
Here stay this man united with his spirit in the Sun's realm, the
world of life eternal!

To the 'Ender,' to Death be reverence! May thy in-breathing and thy out-breathing remain here! United here with (life's) spirit this man shall be, sharing in the sun, in the world of immortality (amrita)!

avś_08.001.02.

उ॒द् एनं भ॒गो अग्रभीद् उ॒द् एनं सो॒मो अंशुमा॒न् ।
उ॒द् एनं मरु॒तो देवा॒ उ॒द् इन्द्राग्नी॒ स्वस्त॒ये ॥२॥

úd enaṃ bhágo agrabhīd úd enaṃ sómo aṃśumā́n |
úd enaṃ marúto devā́ úd indrāgnī́ svastáye ||2||

Вверх его захватил Бхага,
Вверх его Сома, богатый побегами,
Вверх его боги Маруты,
Верх Индра-Агни — на счастье!

Bhaga hath lifted up this man, and Soma with his filaments,
Indra and Agni, and the Gods the Maruts, raised him up to
health.

Bhaga has raised him up, Soma with his rays (has raised) him up, the Maruts, the gods, (have raised) him up, Indra and Agni (have raised) him up unto well-being.

avś_08.001.03.

इह॒ ते॒ ऽसुर् इह॒ प्राण॒ इहा॒युर् इह॒ ते म॒नः ।
उ॒त् त्वा नि॒रृत्याः पा॒शेभ्यो दै॒व्या वचा॒ भरामसि ॥३॥

ihá té 'sur ihá prāṇá ihā́yur ihá te mánaḥ |
út tvā nírr̥tyāḥ pā́śebhyo dáivyā vacā́ bharāmasi ||3||

Здесь твоя жизненная сила, здесь дыхание,
Здесь срок жизни, здесь твоя мысль!
Вверх тебя из петель Гибели
Мы выносим божественной речью.

Here is thy spirit, here thy breath, here is thy life, here is thy
soul:
By a celestial utterance we raise thee from Destruction's bonds.

Here (shall be) thy (life's) spirit, here thy inbreathing, here thy life, here thy mind! We rescue thee from the toils of Nirriti (destruction) by means of our divine utterance.

avś_08.001.04.

उ॒त् क्रामा॒तः पुरुष मा॒व पत्था मृत्योः॒ प॒ड्वीषम् अवमुञ्च॒मानः ।
मा॒ छित्था अस्मा॒ल् लोका॒द् अग्नेः॒ सू॒र्यस्य संदृ॒शः ॥४॥

út krāmā́taḥ puruṣa mā́va patthā mr̥tyóḥ páḍvīṣam avamuñcámānaḥ |
mā́ chitthā asmā́l lokā́d agnéḥ sū́ryasya saṃdŕ̥śaḥ ||4||

Вверх взойди отсюда, человек,
Вниз не падай,
Освобождаясь от оков смерти!
Не порывай с этим миром,
С огнем, с вѝдением солнца!

Up from this place, O man, rise! sink not downward, casting
away the bonds of Death that hold thee.
Be not thou parted from this world, from sight of Agni and the
Sun.

Rise up hence, O man! Casting off the footshackles of death, do not sink down! Be not cut off from this world, from the sight of Agni and the sun!

avś_08.001.05.

तु॒भ्यं वा॒तः पवतां मातरि॒श्वा तु॒भ्यं वर्षन्त्व् अमृ॒तान्य् आ॒पः ।
सू॒र्यस् ते तन्वे॑ शं॒ तपाति त्वा॒म् मृत्यु॒र् दयतां मा॒ प्र॒ मेष्ठाः ॥५॥

túbhyaṃ vā́taḥ pavatāṃ mātaríśvā túbhyaṃ varṣantv amŕ̥tāny ā́paḥ |
sū́ryas te tanvè śáṃ tapāti tvā́m mr̥tyúr dayatāṃ mā́ prá meṣṭhāḥ ||5||

Для тебя пусть веет ветер Матаришван,
Для тебя пусть воды изливают дождем бессмертные (возможности)!
Солнце (своим) жаром пусть несет благо твоему телу!
Да пожалеет тебя смерть! Не погибай!

Purely for thee breathe Wind and Mātarisvan, and let the
Waters rain on thee their nectar.
The Sun shall shine with healing on thy body; Death shall have
mercy on thee: do not leave us!

The wind, Mātarisvan, shall blow for thee, the waters shall shower amrita (ambrosia) upon thee, the sun shall shine kindly for thy body! Death shall pity thee: do not waste away!

avś_08.001.06.

उद्या॒नं ते पुरुष ना॒वया॒नं जीवा॒तुं ते द॒क्षतातिं कृनोमि ।
आ॒ हि॒ रो॒हेम॒म् अमृ॒तं सुखं॒ र॒थम् अ॒थ जि॒र्विर् विद॒थम् आ॒ वदासि ॥६॥

udyā́naṃ te puruṣa nā́vayā́naṃ jīvā́tuṃ te dákṣatātiṃ kr̥nomi |
ā́ hí róhemám amŕ̥taṃ sukháṃ rátham átha jírvir vidátham ā́ vadāsi ||6||

(Да будет) у тебя восхождение, человек, а не нисхождение!
Жизнь твою, дееспособность создаю я.
Поднимись же на эту бессмертную легкоходную колесницу,
И пусть старым ты будешь обращаться к жертвенному собранию!

Upward must be thy way, O man, not downward: with life and
mental vigour I endow thee.
Ascend this car eternal, lightly rolling; then full of years shalt
thou address the meeting.

Thou shalt ascend and not descend, O man! Life and alertness do I prepare for thee. Mount, forsooth, this imperishable, pleasant car; then in old age thou shalt hold converse with thy family!

avś_08.001.07.

मा॒ ते म॒नस् त॒त्र गान् मा॒ तिरो॒ भून् मा॒ जीवे॒भ्यः प्र॒ मदो मा॒नु गाः पितृ॒̄न् ।
वि॒श्वे देवा॒ अभि॒ रक्षन्तु त्वेह॒ ॥७॥

mā́ te mánas tátra gān mā́ tiró bhūn mā́ jīvébhyaḥ prá mado mā́nu gāḥ pitr̥̄́n |
víśve devā́ abhí rakṣantu tvehá ||7||

Да не уйдет туда твой дух, да не исчезнет он!
Да не пренебрежешь ты живыми, да не последуешь за отцами!
Пусть все боги защитят тебя здесь!

Let not thy soul go thither, nor be lost to us: slight not the
living, go not where the Fathers are.
Let all the Gods retain thee here in safety.

Thy mind shall not go thither, shall not disappear! Do not become heedless of the living, do not follow the Fathers! All the gods shall preserve thee here!

avś_08.001.08.

मा॒ गता॒नाम् आ॒ दीधीथा ये॒ न॒यन्ति पराव॒तम् ।
आ॒ रोह त॒मसो ज्यो॒तिर् ए॒ह्य् आ॒ ते ह॒स्तौ रभामहे ॥८॥

mā́ gatā́nām ā́ dīdhīthā yé náyanti parāvátam |
ā́ roha támaso jyótir éhy ā́ te hástau rabhāmahe ||8||

Не стремись к ушедшим,
Которые уводят вдаль.
Поднимись из мрака, приди к свету!
Мы держим тебя за руки.

Yearn not for the departed ones, for those who lead men far
away.
Rise up from darkness into light: come, both thy hands we
clasp in ours.

Do not long after the departed, who conduct (men) afar! Ascend from the darkness, come to the light! We lay hold of thy hands.

avś_08.001.09.

श्याम॒श् च त्वा मा॒ शब॒लश् च प्रे॒षितौ यम॒स्य यौ॒ पथिर॒क्षी श्वा॒नौ ।
अर्वा॒ङ् ए॒हि मा॒ वि॒ दीध्यो मा॒त्र तिष्ठः प॒राङ्मनाः ॥९॥

śyāmáś ca tvā mā́ śabálaś ca préṣitau yamásya yáu pathirákṣī śvā́nau |
arvā́ṅ éhi mā́ ví dīdhyo mā́tra tiṣṭhaḥ párāṅmanāḥ ||9||

(Пусть не схватят) тебя два посланных пса Ямы:
Черный и пятнистый, которые охраняют путь!
В наши края приходи, не отвлекайся!
Не стой тут с мыслями, обращенными прочь!

Let not the black dog and the brindled seize thee, two warders
of the way sent forth by Yama.
Come hither; do not hesitate: with mind averted stay not there.

The two dogs of Yama, the black and the brindled one, that guard the road (to heaven), that have been despatched, shall not (go after) thee! Come hither, do not long to be away; do not tarry here with thy mind turned to a distance!

avś_08.001.10.

मै॒तं॒ प॒न्थाम् अ॒नु गा भीम॒ एष॒ ये॒न पू॒र्वं ने॒य॒थ तं॒ ब्रवीमि ।
त॒म एत॒त् पुरुष मा॒ प्र॒ पत्था भयं॒ पर॒स्ताद् अ॒भयं ते अर्वा॒क् ॥१०॥ {१}

máitáṃ pánthām ánu gā bhīmá eṣá yéna pū́rvaṃ néyátha táṃ bravīmi |
táma etát puruṣa mā́ prá patthā bhayáṃ parástād ábhayaṃ te arvā́k ||10|| {1}

Не следуй по этому пути — страшен он!
(Путь) которым раньше не ходил ты, о нем я говорю.
Это мрак, о человек, — не провались в него!
Страх — вдали, отсутствие страха у тебя — в наших краях.

Forbear to tread this path, for it is awful: that path I speak of
which thou hast not travelled.
Enter it not, O man; this way is darkness: forward is danger,
hitherward is safety.

Do not follow this path: it is terrible! I speak of that by which thou hast not hitherto gone. Darkness is this, O man, do not enter it! Danger is beyond, security here for thee.

avś_08.001.11.

र॒क्षन्तु त्वाग्न॒यो ये॒ अप्स्व् अ॑न्ता॒ र॒क्षतु त्वा मनुष्या॑ य॒म् इन्ध॒ते ।
वैश्वानरो॒ रक्षतु जात॒वेदा दिव्य॒स् त्वा मा॒ प्र॒ धाग् विद्यु॒ता सह॒ ॥११॥

rákṣantu tvāgnáyo yé apsv àntā́ rákṣatu tvā manuṣyā̀ yám indháte |
vaiśvānaró rakṣatu jātávedā divyás tvā mā́ prá dhāg vidyútā sahá ||11||

Да защитят тебя огни, которые внутри вод!
Да защитит тебя (огонь), который зажигают люди!
Вайшванара Джатаведас да защитит!
Да не сожжет (тебя) небесный огонь — вместе с молнией!

Thy guardians be the Fires within the Waters, thy guardian be
the Fire which men enkindle.
Thy guardian be Vaisvānara Jātavedas; let not celestial Fire with
lightning burn thee.

May the fires that are within the waters gLiard thee, may (the fire) which men kindle guard thee, may Gātavedas Vaisvānara (the fire common to all men) guard thee! Let not the heavenly (fire) together with the lightning burn, thee!

avś_08.001.12.

मा॒ त्वा क्रव्या॒द् अभि॒ मंस्तारा॒त् सं॒कसुकाच् चर र॒क्षतु त्वा द्यौ॒ र॒क्षतु ।
पृथिवी॒ सू॒र्यश् च त्वा र॒क्षतां चन्द्र॒माश् च ।
अन्त॒रिक्षं रक्षतु देवहेत्याः॒ ॥१२॥

mā́ tvā kravyā́d abhí maṃstārā́t sáṃkasukāc cara rákṣatu tvā dyáu rákṣatu |
pr̥thivī́ sū́ryaś ca tvā rákṣatāṃ candrámāś ca |
antárikṣaṃ rakṣatu devahetyā́ḥ ||12||

Пусть не замышляет против тебя (огонь), пожирающий мясо!
Держись от разрушителя на расстоянии!
Да защитит тебя небо, да защитит земля!
Солнце и луна да защитят тебя!
Да защитит тебя воздушное пространство от дротика богов!

Let not the Flesh-Consumer plot against thee: depart thou far
away from the Destroyer.
Be Heaven and Earth and Sun and Moon thy keepers, and from
the dart of Gods may Air protect thee.

Let not the flesh-devouring (fire) menace thee: move afar from the funeral pyre! Heaven shall guard thee, the earth shall guard thee, the sun and moon shall guard thee, the atmosphere shall guard thee against the divine missile!

avś_08.001.13.

बोध॒श् च त्वा प्रतिबोध॒श् च रक्षताम् अस्वप्न॒श् च त्वानवद्राण॒श् च रक्षताम् ।
गोपायं॒श् च त्वा जा॒गृविश् च रक्षताम् ॥१३॥

bodháś ca tvā pratibodháś ca rakṣatām asvapnáś ca tvānavadrāṇáś ca rakṣatām |
gopāyáṃś ca tvā jā́gr̥viś ca rakṣatām ||13||

Да защитят тебя бодрствующий и бдительный!
Бессонный и недремлющий да защитят тебя!
Пасущий и внимательный да защитят тебя!

May Vigilance and Watchfulness protect thee, Sleepless and
Slumberless keep guard above thee!
Let Guardian and let Wakeful be thy warders.

May the alert and the watchful divinities guard thee, may he that sleeps not and nods not guard thee, may he that protects and is vigilant guard thee!

avś_08.001.14.

ते॒ त्वा रक्षन्तु ते॒ त्वा गोपायन्तु ते॒भ्यो न॒मस् ते॒भ्यः स्वा॒हा ॥१४॥

té tvā rakṣantu té tvā gopāyantu tébhyo námas tébhyaḥ svā́hā ||14||

Они тебя пусть защищают, они тебя пусть пасут!
Им — поклонение! Им — свет!

Let these be thy preservers, these thy keepers. All hail to these,
to these be lowly worship!

They shall guard thee, they shall protect thee. Reverence be to them. Hail be to them!

avś_08.001.15.

जीवे॒भ्यस् त्वा समु॒दे वायु॒र् इ॒न्द्रो धाता॒ दधातु सविता॒ त्रा॒यमाणः ।
मा॒ त्वा प्राणो॒ ब॒लं हासीद् अ॒सुं ते॒ ऽनु ह्वयामसि ॥१५॥

jīvébhyas tvā samúde vāyúr índro dhātā́ dadhātu savitā́ trā́yamāṇaḥ |
mā́ tvā prāṇó bálaṃ hāsīd ásuṃ té 'nu hvayāmasi ||15||

Пусть Ваю, Индра, Дхатар, спасительный Савитар
Предназначат тебя для общения с живыми!
Да не покинет тебя дыхание (и) сила!
Мы призываем обратно твой жизненный дух.

May saving Savitar, Vāyu, Indra, Dhātar restore thee to com-
munion with the living.
Let not thy vigour or thy breath forsake thee: we recall thy life.

Into converse with the living Vāyu, Indra, Dhātar, and saving Savitar shall put thee; breath and strength shall not leave thee! Thy (life's) spirit do we call back to thee.

avś_08.001.16.

मा॒ त्वा जम्भः॒ सं॒हनुर् मा॒ त॒मो विदन् मा॒ जिह्वा॒ बर्हि॒स् प्रमयुः॒ कथा॒ स्याः ।
उ॒त् त्वादित्या॒ व॒सवो भरन्तू॒द् इन्द्राग्नी॒ स्वस्त॒ये ॥१६॥

mā́ tvā jambháḥ sáṃhanur mā́ támo vidan mā́ jihvā́ barhís pramayúḥ kathā́ syāḥ |
út tvādityā́ vásavo bharantū́d indrāgnī́ svastáye ||16||

Пусть не (найдет) тебя дробитель, смыкающий челюсти,
Пусть не найдет ни мрак, ни (демон), высовывающий язык (?)!
Как (же) ты будешь погибшим?
Вверх пусть поднимут тебя Адитьи, Васу,
Вверх Индра-Агни — на счастье!

Let not the fiend with snapping jaws, nor darkness find thee:
tongue, holy grass: how shouldst thou perish?
May the Ādityas and the Vasus, Indra and Agni raise thee and
to health restore thee.

Convulsions that draw the jaws together, darkness, shall not come upon thee, nor (the demon) that tears out the tongue (?)! How shalt thou then waste away? The Ādityas and Vasus, Indra and Agni shall raise thee up unto well-being!

avś_08.001.17.

उ॒त् त्वा द्यौ॒र् उ॒त् पृथिव्य् उ॒त् प्रजा॒पतिर् अग्रभीत् ।
उ॒त् त्वा मृत्यो॒र् ओ॒षधयः सो॒मराज्ञीर् अपीपरन् ॥१७॥

út tvā dyáur út pr̥thivy út prajā́patir agrabhīt |
út tvā mr̥tyór óṣadhayaḥ sómarājñīr apīparan ||17||

Вверх тебя Небо, вверх Земля,
Вверх Праджапати захватил.
Вверх тебя, от смерти, перевезли
Целебные растения с Сомой-царем во главе.

The Sky hath raised thee, and the Earth, Prajāpati hath raised
thee up.
The Plants and Herbs with Soma as their King have rescued
thee from Death.

The heavens, the earth, Pragāpati, have rescued thee. The plants with Soma their king have delivered thee from death.

avś_08.001.18.

अयं॒ देवा इहै॒वा॒स्त्व् अयं॒ मा॒मु॒त्र गाद् इतः॒ ।
इमं॒ सह॒स्रवीर्येण मृत्यो॒र् उ॒त् पारयामसि ॥१८॥

ayáṃ devā iháivā́stv ayáṃ mā́mútra gād itáḥ |
imáṃ sahásravīryeṇa mr̥tyór út pārayāmasi ||18||

Пусть этот (человек), о боги, будет только здесь!
Пусть этот (человек) не уйдет отсюда туда!
С помощью (заговора) с тысячной силой
Мы его перевозим вверх, от смерти.

Here let this man, O Gods, remain: let him not go to yonder
world.
We rescue him from Mrityu with a charm that hath a thousand
powers.

Let this man remain right here, ye gods, let him not depart hence to yonder world! We rescue him from death with (a charm) of thousandfold strength.

avś_08.001.19.

उ॒त् त्वा मृत्यो॒र् अपीपरं सं॒ धमन्तु वयोध॒सः ।
मा॒ त्वा व्यस्तकेश्यो॑ मा॒ त्वाघरु॒दो रुदन् ॥१९॥

út tvā mr̥tyór apīparaṃ sáṃ dhamantu vayodhásaḥ |
mā́ tvā vyastakeśyò mā́ tvāgharúdo rudan ||19||

Вверх я перевез тебя, от смерти.
Дающие здоровье (боги) пусть вместе дуют (на тебя)!
Пусть не оплакивают тебя женщины с распущенными волосами,
Пусть не оплакивают тебя жутко рыдающие!

I have delivered thee from Death. Strength-givers smelt and
fashion thee!
Let not she-fiends with wild loose locks, or fearful howlers yell
at thee.

I have delivered thee from death. The (powers) that furnish strength shall breathe upon thee. The (mourning women) with dishevelled hair, they that wail lugubriously, shall not wail over thee!

avś_08.001.20.

आ॒हार्षम् अ॒विदं त्वा पु॒नर् आ॒गाः पु॒नर्णवः ।
स॒र्वाङ्ग स॒र्वं ते च॒क्षुः स॒र्वम् आ॒युश् च ते ऽविदम् ॥२०॥

ā́hārṣam ávidaṃ tvā púnar ā́gāḥ púnarṇavaḥ |
sárvāṅga sárvaṃ te cákṣuḥ sárvam ā́yuś ca te 'vidam ||20||

Я забрал, я нашел тебя.
Ты пришел снова, обновленный.
О ты с невредимыми членами, невредимо твое зрение,
Невредимым я нашел и твой срок жизни!

I have attained and captured thee: thou hast returned restored
to youth.
Perfect in body: so have I found all thy sight and all thy life.

I have snatched thee (from death), I have obtained thee; thou hast returned with renewed youth. O thou, that art (now) sound of limb, for thee sound sight, and sound life have I obtained.

avś_08.001.21.

व्य् अ॑वात् ते ज्यो॒तिर् अभूद् अ॒प त्व॒त् त॒मो अक्रमीत् ।
अ॒प त्व॒न् मृत्युं॒ नि॒रृतिम् अ॒प य॒क्ष्मं नि॒ दध्मसि ॥२१॥ {२}

vy àvāt te jyótir abhūd ápa tvát támo akramīt |
ápa tván mr̥tyúṃ nírr̥tim ápa yákṣmaṃ ní dadhmasi ||21|| {2}

Сверкнуло для тебя. Возник свет.
Прочь отступил от тебя мрак.
Прочь от тебя Смерть, Гибель,
Прочь якшму мы убираем.

Life hath breathed on thee; light hath come: darkness hath past
away from thee.
Far from thee we have buried Death, buried Destruction and:
Decline.

It has shone upon thee, light has arisen, darkness has departed from thee. We remove from thee death, destruction, and disease.
