अयं॒ प्रतिसरो॒ मणि॒र् वीरो॒ वीरा॒य बध्यते ।
वीर्य॑वान्त् सपत्नहा॒ शू॒रवीरः परिपा॒णः सुमङ्ग॒लः ॥१॥

ayáṃ pratisaró maṇír vīró vīrā́ya badhyate |
vīryàvānt sapatnahā́ śū́ravīraḥ paripā́ṇaḥ sumaṅgálaḥ ||1||

Этот кругообразный амулет,
Герой, привязывается для героя:
Героический, убивающий соперников, храбрый герой,
Очень благоприятное укрытие.

Upon the strong is bound the strong, this magic cord, this Amu-
let,
Potent, foe-slayer, served by valiant heroes, happy and fortu-
nate defence.

This attacking talisman, (itself) a man, is fastened upon the man: it is full of force, slays enemies, makes heroes of men, furnishes shelter, provides good luck.

avś_08.005.02.

अयं॒ मणिः॒ सपत्नहा॒ सुवी॒रः स॒हस्वान् वाजी॒ स॒हमान उग्रः॒ ।
प्रत्य॒क् कृत्या॒ दूष॒यन्न् एति वीरः॒ ॥२॥

ayáṃ maṇíḥ sapatnahā́ suvī́raḥ sáhasvān vājī́ sáhamāna ugráḥ |
pratyák kr̥tyā́ dūṣáyann eti vīráḥ ||2||

Этот амулет, убивающий соперников, очень мужественный,
Полный сил, смелый, осиливающий, грозный,
Идет как герой навстречу колдовству, портя (его).

This Charm, foe-slayer, served by many heroes, strong, power-
ful, victorious, and mighty, goes bravely forth to meet and
ruin witchcraft.

This talisman slays enemies, makes strong men, is powerful, lusty, victorious, strong; as a man it advances against sorceries and destroys them.

avś_08.005.03.

अने॒ने॒न्द्रो मणि॒ना वृत्र॒म् अहन्न् अने॒ना॒सुरान् प॒राभावयन् मनीषी॒ ।
अने॒नाजयद् द्या॒वापृथिवी॒ उभे॒ इमे॒ अने॒नाजयत् प्रदि॒शश् च॒तस्रः ॥३॥

anénéndro maṇínā vr̥trám ahann anénā́surān párābhāvayan manīṣī́ |
anénājayad dyā́vāpr̥thivī́ ubhé imé anénājayat pradíśaś cátasraḥ ||3||

С помощью этого амулета Индра убил Вритру,
С его помощью он, мудрый, уничтожил ракшасов.
С его помощью он завоевал небо-и-землю, их обоих,
С его помощью он завоевал четыре стороны света.

With this same Amulet wise Indra routed the Asuras, with this
he slaughtered Vritra,
With this he won this pair, both Earth and Heaven, and made
the sky's four regions his possession.

With this talisman Indra slew Vritra, with it he, full of device, destroyed the Asuras, with it he conquered both the heaven and earth, with it he conquered the four regions of space.

avś_08.005.04.

अयं॒ स्राक्त्यो॒ मणिः॒ प्रतीवर्तः॒ प्रतिसरः॒ ।
ओ॒जस्वान् विमृधो॒ वशी॒ सो॒ अस्मा॒न् पातु सर्व॒तः ॥४॥

ayáṃ srāktyó maṇíḥ pratīvartáḥ pratisaráḥ |
ójasvān vimr̥dhó vaśī́ só asmā́n pātu sarvátaḥ ||4||

Этот зубчатый амулет,
Обращенный вспять, кругообразный,
Полный сил, отвращающий обидчиков, могучий —
Да защитит он нас со всех сторон!

May this encircling magic cord, this Amulet of Srāktya wood,
Mighty, subduing enemies, keep us secure on every side.

This talisman of sraktya assails and attacks. With might controlling the enemies, it shall protect us on all sides!

avś_08.005.05.

त॒द् अग्नि॒र् आह त॒द् उ सो॒म आह बृ॒हस्प॒तिः सविता॒ त॒द् इ॒न्द्रः ।
ते॒ मे देवाः॒ पुरो॒हिताः प्रती॒चीः कृत्याः॒ प्रतिसरै॒र् अजन्तु ॥५॥

tád agnír āha tád u sóma āha bŕ̥haspátiḥ savitā́ tád índraḥ |
té me devā́ḥ puróhitāḥ pratī́cīḥ kr̥tyā́ḥ pratisaráir ajantu ||5||

Это сказал Агни, это же сказал Сома,
Брихаспати, Савитар, это — Индра.
Эти боги, поручители мои,
Гонят обратно колдовство с помощью кругообразных (амулетов).

This Agni hath declared, Soma declared it, Brihaspati, and
Savitar, and Indra.
So may these Gods whom I have set before me oppose with
saving charms and banish witchcraft.

Agni has said this, and Soma has said this; Brihaspati, Savitar, Indra (have said) this. These divine purohitas, (chaplains) shall turn back for me (upon the sorcerer) the sorceries with aggressive amulets!

avś_08.005.06.

अन्त॒र् दधे द्या॒वापृथिवी॒ उता॒हर् उत॒ सू॒र्यम् ।
ते॒ मे देवाः॒ पुरो॒हिताः प्रती॒चीः कृत्याः॒ प्रतिसरै॒र् अजन्तु ॥६॥

antár dadhe dyā́vāpr̥thivī́ utā́har utá sū́ryam |
té me devā́ḥ puróhitāḥ pratī́cīḥ kr̥tyā́ḥ pratisaráir ajantu ||6||

Я заслоняюсь небом-и-землей,
А также днем, а также солнцем.
Эти боги, поручители мои,
Пусть гонят обратно колдовство с помощью кругообразных (амулетов).

I have obscured the heaven and earth, yea, and the daylight and
the sun.
So may these Gods whom I have set before me oppose with
saving charms and banish witchcraft.

I have interposed heaven and earth, also the day, and also the sun. These divine purohitas (chaplains) shall turn back for me (upon the sorcerer) the sorceries with aggressive amulets!

avś_08.005.07.

ये॒ स्राक्त्यं॒ मणिं॒ ज॒ना व॒र्माणि कृण्व॒ते ।
सू॒र्य इव दि॒वम् आरु॒ह्य वि॒ कृत्या॒ बाधते वशी॒ ॥७॥

yé srāktyáṃ maṇíṃ jánā vármāṇi kr̥ṇváte |
sū́rya iva dívam ārúhya ví kr̥tyā́ bādhate vaśī́ ||7||

Какие люди делают
Зубчатый амулет (своим) щитом —
(Для них), как солнце, поднявшись на небо,
Он, могучий, гонит прочь колдовство.

Whoever for his armour takes an amulet of the Srāktya tree,
Like the Sun risen up to heaven, quells witchcraft with superior
might.

(For) the folk that make an armour of the talisman of sraktya — like the sun ascending the sky, it subjects and beats off the sorceries.

avś_08.005.08.

स्राक्त्ये॒न मणि॒ना ऋ॒षिणेव मनीषि॒णा ।
अ॒जैषं स॒र्वाः पृ॒तना वि॒ मृ॒धो हन्मि रक्ष॒सः ॥८॥

srāktyéna maṇínā ŕ̥ṣiṇeva manīṣíṇā |
ájaiṣaṃ sárvāḥ pŕ̥tanā ví mŕ̥dho hanmi rakṣásaḥ ||8||

С помощью зубчатого амулета,
Как с помощью риши, полного мудрости,
Я выиграл все сражения,
Я разбиваю обидчиков, ракшасов.

With Amulet of Srāktya wood, as with a thoughtful Rishi's aid,
In every fight have I prevailed; I smite the foes and Rākshasas.

With the amulet of sraktya, as if with a seer of powerful spirit, I have gained all battles, I slay the enemies, the Rakshas.

avś_08.005.09.

याः॒ कृत्या॒ आङ्गिरसी॒र् याः॒ कृत्या॒ आसुरी॒र् याः॒ ।
कृत्याः॒ स्वयं॒कृता या॒ उ चान्ये॒भिर् आ॒भृताः ।
उभ॒यीस् ताः॒ प॒रा यन्तु पराव॒तो नवतिं॒ नाव्या॑ अ॒ति ॥९॥

yā́ḥ kr̥tyā́ āṅgirasī́r yā́ḥ kr̥tyā́ āsurī́r yā́ḥ |
kr̥tyā́ḥ svayáṃkr̥tā yā́ u cānyébhir ā́bhr̥tāḥ |
ubháyīs tā́ḥ párā yantu parāváto navatíṃ nāvyā̀ áti ||9||

Какое колдовство от Ангирасов,
Какое колдовство от асуров,
Колдовство, создавшее себя само,
И то, что занесено другими, —
Пусть оба они уйдут в далекую даль
Через девяносто судоходных (рек)!

All witchcraft of Angirases,"all witchcraft wrought by Asuras,
All witchcraft self-originate, and all that others have prepared,
May these depart to both remotest spaces, past ninety ample
water-floods.

The sorceries that come from the Angiras, the sorceries that come from the Asuras, the sorceries that prepare themselves, and those that are prepared by others, both these shall go away to a distance across ninety navigable streams!

avś_08.005.10.

अस्मै॒ मणिं॒ व॒र्म बध्नन्तु देवा॒ इ॒न्द्रो वि॒ष्णुः सविता॒ रुद्रो॒ अग्निः॒ ।
प्रजा॒पतिः परमेष्ठी॒ विरा॒ड् वैश्वानर॒ ऋ॒षयश् च स॒र्वे ॥१०॥ {१२}

asmái maṇíṃ várma badhnantu devā́ índro víṣṇuḥ savitā́ rudró agníḥ |
prajā́patiḥ parameṣṭhī́ virā́ḍ vaiśvānará ŕ̥ṣayaś ca sárve ||10|| {12}

Пусть боги привяжут ему амулет как щит:
Индра, Вишну, Савитар, Рудра, Агни,
Праджапати, Парамештхин, Вирадж,
Вайшванара и все риши.

May the Gods bind the Charm on him for armour, Indra, and
Vishnu, Savitar Rudra, Agni,
Prajāpati, sublimest Parameshlhin, Virāj, Vaisvānara, and all
the Rishis.

As an armour upon him the gods shall tie the amulet, Indra, Vishnu, Savitar, Rudra, Agni, Pragāpati, Parameshthin, Virāg,Vaisvānara, and the seers all.

avś_08.005.11.

उत्तमो॒ अस्य् ओ॒षधीनाम् अनड्वा॒न् ज॒गताम् इव व्याघ्रः॒ श्व॒पदाम् इव ।
य॒म् ऐ॒छामा॒विदाम तं॒ प्रतिस्पा॒शनम् अ॒न्तितम् ॥११॥

uttamó asy óṣadhīnām anaḍvā́n jágatām iva vyāghráḥ śvápadām iva |
yám áichāmā́vidāma táṃ pratispā́śanam ántitam ||11||

Ты высший среди целебных растений,
Как бык среди живых существ,
Как тигр среди хищных зверей.
Кого мы искали, того мы нашли,
Выслеживающего поблизости.

Thou art the chief of all the plants, even as a bull among the
beasts.
A tiger of the beasts of prey. Him whom we sought for have we
found, him lying near in wait for us.

Thou art the most superb of plants, as if a steer among the cattle, as if a tiger among beasts of prey. (The amulet) that we did seek, that have we found, a guardian at our side.

avś_08.005.12.

स॒ इ॒द् व्याघ्रो॒ भवत्य् अ॒थो सिंहो॒ अ॒थो वृ॒षा ।
अ॒थो सपत्नक॒र्शनो यो॒ बि॒भर्तीमं॒ मणि॒म् ॥१२॥

sá íd vyāghró bhavaty átho siṃhó átho vŕ̥ṣā |
átho sapatnakárśano yó bíbhartīmáṃ maṇím ||12||

Тот ведь становится тигром,
А также львом, а также быком,
А также выматывающим соперников,
Кто носит этот амулет.

A tiger verily is he, he is a lion, and a bull,
Subduer of his foes is he, the man who wears this Amulet.

He that wears this talisman, verily is a tiger, a lion as well, and, too, a bull; moreover a curtailer of enemies.

avś_08.005.13.

नै॒नं घ्नन्त्य् अप्सर॒सो न॒ गन्धर्वा॒ न॒ म॒र्त्याः ।
स॒र्वा दि॒शो वि॒ राजति यो॒ बि॒भर्तीमं॒ मणि॒म् ॥१३॥

náinaṃ ghnanty apsaráso ná gandharvā́ ná mártyāḥ |
sárvā díśo ví rājati yó bíbhartīmáṃ maṇím ||13||

Его не убьют ни апсарас,
Ни гандхарвы, ни смертные.
Правит всеми сторонами света (тот),
Кто носит этот амулет.

No mortal beings slay him, no Gāndharvas, no Apsarases;
O'er all the regions he is king, the man who wears this Amulet.

Him slay not the Apsaras, nor the Gandharvas, nor mortal men; all reoions does he rule, that wears this talisman.

avś_08.005.14.

कश्य॒पस् त्वा॒म् असृजत कश्य॒पस् त्वा स॒म् ऐरयत् ।
अ॒बिभस् त्वे॒न्द्रो मा॒नुषे बि॒भ्रत् संश्रेषिणे॒ ऽजयत् ।
मणिं॒ सह॒स्रवीर्यं व॒र्म देवा॒ अकृण्वत ॥१४॥

kaśyápas tvā́m asr̥jata kaśyápas tvā sám airayat |
ábibhas tvéndro mā́nuṣe bíbhrat saṃśreṣiṇé 'jayat |
maṇíṃ sahásravīryaṃ várma devā́ akr̥ṇvata ||14||

Кашьяпа создал тебя,
Кашьяпа вызвал тебя к жизни.
Индра носил тебя среди людей (?),
Нося, он победил в борьбе.
Амулет с тысячной мощью
Боги сделали себе щитом.

Kasyapa formed and fashioned thee, Kasyapa raised and sent
thee forth.
Indra wore thee, and, wearing thee, won in the wrestling-match
with man.
The Amulet of boundless might the Gods have made a coat of
mail.

Kasyapa has created thee, Kasyapa has produced thee. Indra wore thee in human (battle); wearing thee in the close combat he conquered. The gods did make the talisman an armour of thousandfold strength.

avś_08.005.15.

य॒स् त्वा कृत्या॒भिर् य॒स् त्वा दीक्षा॒भिर् यज्ञै॒र् य॒स् त्वा जि॒घांसति ।
प्रत्य॒क् त्व॒म् इन्द्र तं॒ जहि व॒ज्रेण शत॒पर्वणा ॥१५॥

yás tvā kr̥tyā́bhir yás tvā dīkṣā́bhir yajñáir yás tvā jíghāṃsati |
pratyák tvám indra táṃ jahi vájreṇa śatáparvaṇā ||15||

Кто тебя колдовством, кто тебя посвящением,
Жертвами кто хочет тебя убить,
В ответ, о Индра, ты его убей
Ваджрой с тысячей сочленений!

Whoever would destroy thee with Dikshā-rites, sacrifices, spells,
Meet him and smite him, Indra! with thy hundred-knotted
thunderbolt.

He that plans to harm thee with sorceries, with (unholy) consecrations and sacrifices — him beat thou back, O Indra, with thy thunderbolt that hath a hundred joints!

avś_08.005.16.

अय॒म् इ॒द् वै॒ प्रतीवर्त॒ ओ॒जस्वान् संजयो॒ मणिः॒ ।
प्रजां॒ ध॒नं च रक्षतु परिपा॒णः सुमङ्ग॒लः ॥१६॥

ayám íd vái pratīvartá ójasvān saṃjayó maṇíḥ |
prajā́ṃ dhánaṃ ca rakṣatu paripā́ṇaḥ sumaṅgálaḥ ||16||

Так пусть же этот обращенный вспять
Полный сил всепобеждающий амулет
Защитит (наше) потомство и богатство,
Очень благоприятное укрытие!

Verily let this Amulet, circular, potent, conquering,
Happy and fortunate defence, preserve thy children and thy
wealth.

This talisman verily does assail, full of might, victorious. Offspring and wealth it shall protect, provide defence, abound in luck!

avś_08.005.17.

असपत्नं॒ नो अधरा॒द् असपत्नं॒ न उत्तरा॒त् ।
इ॒न्द्रासपत्नं॒ नः पश्चा॒ज् ज्यो॒तिः शूर पुर॒स् कृधि ॥१७॥

asapatnáṃ no adharā́d asapatnáṃ na uttarā́t |
índrāsapatnáṃ naḥ paścā́j jyótiḥ śūra purás kr̥dhi ||17||

Отсутствие соперников нам с юга,
Отсутствие соперников нам с севера,
О Индра, отсутствие соперников нам с запада,
Свет с востока создай, о герой!

Brave Indra, set before us light, peace and security from below,
Peace and security from above, peace and security from behind.

Remove our enemies in the south, remove our enemies in the north; remove, O Indra, our enemies in the west: light, O hero, place in front (east) of us!

avś_08.005.18.

व॒र्म मे द्या॒वापृथिवी॒ व॒र्मा॒हर् व॒र्म सू॒र्यः ।
व॒र्म म इ॒न्द्रश् चाग्नि॒श् च व॒र्म धाता॒ दधातु मे ॥१८॥

várma me dyā́vāpr̥thivī́ vármā́har várma sū́ryaḥ |
várma ma índraś cāgníś ca várma dhātā́ dadhātu me ||18||

Щит для меня (пусть создадут) небо-и-земля,
Щит — день, щит — солнце.
Щит для меня Индра и Агни,
Щит пусть Дхатар установит для меня!

My coat of mail is Heaven and Earth, my coat of mail is Day
and Sun:
A coat of mail may Indra and Agni and Dhātar grant to me.

An armour for me be heaven and earth, an armour day, an armour the sun! An armour for me be Indra and Agni; Dhātar shall bestow (dadhAtu) an armour upon me!

avś_08.005.19.

ऐन्द्राग्नं॒ व॒र्म बहुलं॒ य॒द् उग्रं॒ वि॒श्वे देवा॒ ना॒तिवि॒ध्यन्ति स॒र्वे ।
त॒न् मे तन्वं॑ त्रायतां सर्व॒तो बृह॒द् आ॒युष्मां जर॒दष्टिर् य॒था॒सानि ॥१९॥

aindrāgnáṃ várma bahuláṃ yád ugráṃ víśve devā́ nā́tivídhyanti sárve |
tán me tanvàṃ trāyatāṃ sarváto br̥hád ā́yuṣmāṃ jarádaṣṭir yáthā́sāni ||19||

Щит Индра-Агни, который велик и грозен,
(Его) не могут пробить все боги вместе.
Пусть он, надежный, защитит мое тело со всех сторон,
Чтобы был я долгожителем, достигшим старости!

Not all the Gods may pierce, all leagued together, the vast
strong shield which Indra gives, and Agni.
May that great shield on all sides guard my body, that to full
old my life may be extended.

The armour of Indra and Agni, that is thick and strong, all the gods united do not pierce. This great (armour) shall protect my body on all sides, that I may obtain long life, and reach old age!

avś_08.005.20.

आ॒ मारुक्षद् देवमणि॒र् मह्या॒ अरिष्ट॒तातये ।
इमं॒ मेथि॒म् अभिसं॒विशध्वं तनूपा॒नं त्रिव॒रूथम् ओ॒जसे ॥२०॥

ā́ mārukṣad devamaṇír mahyā́ ariṣṭátātaye |
imáṃ methím abhisáṃviśadhvaṃ tanūpā́naṃ trivárūtham ójase ||20||

Божественный амулет поднял меня
Для великой невредимости.
Объединитесь вокруг этого столба,
Защищающего тело, трояко охраняющего — ради силы!

Let the Gods' Charm be bound on me to keep me safe from
every ill.
Come ye and enter all within this pillar, the safe-guard of the
body, thrice-defended.

The divine talisman has ascended upon me,unto completc exemption from injury. Assemble about this post that protects the body, furnishes threefold defence, in order to (secure) strength!

avś_08.005.21.

अस्मि॒न्न् इ॒न्द्रो नि॒ दधातु नृम्ण॒म् इमं॒ देवासो अभिसं॒विशध्वम् ।
दीर्घायुत्वा॒य शत॒शारदाया॒युष्मान् जर॒दष्टिर् य॒था॒सत् ॥२१॥

asmínn índro ní dadhātu nr̥mṇám imáṃ devāso abhisáṃviśadhvam |
dīrghāyutvā́ya śatáśāradāyā́yuṣmān jarádaṣṭir yáthā́sat ||21||

В него Индра пусть вложит мужество!
Объединитесь вокруг него, о боги,
Для долголетия в сто осеней,
Чтобы был он долголетним, достигшим старости!

In this let Indra lay a store of valour: approach ye Gods, and
enter it together,
For his long life, to last a hundred autumns, that to full age his
days may be extended.

Into it Indra shall deposit manliness: do ye, O gods, assemble about it for long life, for life lasting a hundred autumns, that he may reach old age.

avś_08.005.22.

स्वस्तिदा॒ विशां॒ प॒तिर् वृत्रहा॒ विमृधो॒ वशी॒ ।
इ॒न्द्रो बध्नातु ते मणिं॒ जिगीवां॒ अ॒पराजितः ।
सोमपा॒ अभयङ्करो॒ वृ॒षा ।

svastidā́ viśā́ṃ pátir vr̥trahā́ vimr̥dhó vaśī́ |
índro badhnātu te maṇíṃ jigīvā́m̐ áparājitaḥ |
somapā́ abhayaṅkaró vŕ̥ṣā |

Дающий счастье господин племен,
Убийца Вритры, отвращающий обидчиков, могучий
Индра пусть привяжет тебе амулет,
Победоносный, непобежденный,
Пьющий сому, делающий бесстрашным, бык!
Да защитит он тебя со всех сторон,
Днем и ночью — отовсюду!

Lord of the clan who brings, us bliss, fiend-slayer, queller of the
foe,
May he, the conqueror, ne'er subdued, may Indra bind the
Charm on thee,
Bull, Soma-drinker, he who gives us peace.
May he protect thee round about, by night and day on every,
side.

May Indra who bestows welfare, the lord of the people, the slayer of Vritra, the controller of enemies, he that conquereth and is unconquered, the soma-drinking bull that frees from danger, fasten the amulet upon thee: may it protect thee on each and every side, by day and by night!
