दिव॒स् पृथिव्या॒ अन्त॒रिक्षात् समुद्रा॒द् अग्ने॒र् वा॒तान् मधुकशा॒ हि॒ जज्ञे॒ ।
तां॒ चायित्वा॒मृ॒तं व॒सानां हृद्भिः॒ प्रजाः॒ प्र॒ति नन्दन्ति स॒र्वाः ॥१॥
divás pr̥thivyā́ antárikṣāt samudrā́d agnér vā́tān madhukaśā́ hí jajñé |
tā́ṃ cāyitvā́mŕ̥taṃ vásānāṃ hr̥dbhíḥ prajā́ḥ práti nandanti sárvāḥ ||1||
Ведь медовая плеть родилась с неба, с земли,
Из воздушного пространства, из океана, из огня, из ветра.
Почитая ее как облаченную в бессмертие,
Все существа радутся (ей) в (своих) сердцах.
The Asvins' Honey-whip was born from heaven and earth, from
middle air, and ocean, and from fire and wind.
All living creatures welcome it with joyful hearts, fraught with
the store of Amrit it hath gathered up.
From heaven, from earth, from the atmosphere, from the sea, from the fire, and from the wind, the honey-lash hath verily sprung. This, clothed in amrita (ambrosia), all the creatures revering, acclaim in their hearts.
avś_09.001.02.
मह॒त् प॒यो विश्व॒रूपम् अस्याः समुद्र॒स्य त्वोत॒ रे॒त आहुः ।
य॒त ऐ॒ति मधुकशा॒ र॒राणा त॒त् प्राण॒स् त॒द् अमृ॒तं नि॒विष्टम् ॥२॥
mahát páyo viśvárūpam asyāḥ samudrásya tvotá réta āhuḥ |
yáta áiti madhukaśā́ rárāṇā tát prāṇás tád amŕ̥taṃ níviṣṭam ||2||
Великое разнообразное молоко у нее.
Говорят также, что ты семя океана.
Откуда появляется медовая плеть, одаряя,
Туда проникло дыхание, туда бессмертие.
They call thee earth's great strength in every form, they call
thee too the ocean's genial seed.
Whence comes the Honey-whip bestowing bounty, there Vital
Spirit is, and Amrit treasured.
Great sap of all forms (colours) it hath-they call thee moreover the seed of the ocean. Where the honey-lash comes bestowing gifts, there life's breath, and there immortality has settled down.
avś_09.001.03.
प॒श्यन्त्य् अस्याश् चरितं॒ पृथिव्यां॒ पृ॒थङ् न॒रो बहुधा॒ मी॒मांसमानाः ।
अग्ने॒र् वा॒तान् मधुकशा॒ हि॒ जज्ञे॒ मरु॒ताम् उग्रा॒ नप्तिः॒ ॥३॥
páśyanty asyāś caritáṃ pr̥thivyā́ṃ pŕ̥thaṅ náro bahudhā́ mī́māṃsamānāḥ |
agnér vā́tān madhukaśā́ hí jajñé marútām ugrā́ naptíḥ ||3||
Видят ее движение на земле
Мужи, много усиленно размышляющие по отдельности.
Ведь медовая плеть родилась из огня, из ветра,
Грозная внучка Марутов.
In sundry spots, repeatedly reflecting, men view upon the earth:
her course and action;
For she, the first-born daughter of the Maruts, derives her
origin from Wind and Agni.
Men severally, contemplating it profoundly, behold its action upon the earth: from the fire and from the wind the honey-lash hath verily sprung, the strong child of the Maruts.
avś_09.001.04.
माता॒दित्या॒नां दुहिता॒ व॒सूनां प्राणः॒ प्रजा॒नाम् अमृ॒तस्य ना॒भिः ।
हि॒रण्यवर्णा मधुकशा॒ घृता॒ची महा॒न् भ॒र्गश् चरति म॒र्त्येषु ॥४॥
mātā́dityā́nāṃ duhitā́ vásūnāṃ prāṇáḥ prajā́nām amŕ̥tasya nā́bhiḥ |
híraṇyavarṇā madhukaśā́ ghr̥tā́cī mahā́n bhárgaś carati mártyeṣu ||4||
Мать Адитьев, дочь Васу,
Дыхание существ, пуп бессмертия,
Золотистая медовая плеть, сочащаяся жиром,
Движется среди людей как великое сияние.
Daughter of Vasus, mother of Ādityas, centre of Amrit breath
of living creatures.
The Honey-whip, gold-coloured, dropping fatness, moves as a
mighty embryo 'mid mortals.
Mother of the Ādityas, daughter of the Vasus, breath of life of created beings, nave of immortality, the honey-lash, golden-coloured, dripping ghee, as a great embryo, moves among mortals.
avś_09.001.05.
म॒धोः क॒शाम् अजनयन्त देवा॒स् त॒स्या ग॒र्भो अभवद् विश्व॒रूपः ।
तं॒ जातं॒ त॒रुणं पिपर्ति माता॒ स॒ जातो॒ वि॒श्वा भु॒वना वि॒ चष्टे ॥५॥
mádhoḥ káśām ajanayanta devā́s tásyā gárbho abhavad viśvárūpaḥ |
táṃ jātáṃ táruṇaṃ piparti mātā́ sá jātó víśvā bhúvanā ví caṣṭe ||5||
Боги породили медовую плеть.
У нее возник зародыш со всеми формами,
Его родившегося (и) нежного наполняет мать.
Родившись, он озирает все существа.
The deities begat the Whip of Honey: her embryo assumed all
forms and fashions.
The mother nourishes that tender infant which at its birth
looks on all worlds and beings.
The god's begot the lash of honey, from it came an embryo having all forms (colours). This, as soon as born, (while yet) young its mother nourishes; this, as soon as born, surveys all the worlds.
avś_09.001.06.
क॒स् तं॒ प्र॒ वेद क॒ उ तं॒ चिकेत यो॒ अस्या हृदः॒ कल॒शः सोमधा॒नो अ॒क्षितः ।
ब्रह्मा॒ सुमेधाः॒ सो॒ अस्मिन् मदेत ॥६॥
kás táṃ prá veda ká u táṃ ciketa yó asyā hr̥dáḥ kaláśaḥ somadhā́no ákṣitaḥ |
brahmā́ sumedhā́ḥ só asmin madeta ||6||
Кто это знает? Кто понимает то,
Что (есть) неиссякающий кувшин, содержащий сому, в ее сердце?
Брахмáн, очень мудрый, он пусть наслаждается этим.
Who understandeth well, who hath perceived it, her heart's un-
injured Soma-holding beaker?
Let the wise Brāhman priest therein be joyful.
Who knows it and who perceives it, the inexhaustible, soma-holding cup that has come from the heart of it (the honey-lash)? 'Tis the wise priest: he shall derive inspiration from it!
avś_09.001.07.
स॒ तौ॒ प्र॒ वेद स॒ उ तौ॒ चिकेत या॒व् अस्याः स्त॒नौ सह॒स्रधाराव् अ॒क्षितौ ।
ऊ॒र्जं दुहाते अ॒नपस्फुरन्तौ ॥७॥
sá táu prá veda sá u táu ciketa yā́v asyāḥ stánau sahásradhārāv ákṣitau |
ū́rjaṃ duhāte ánapasphurantau ||7||
Он знает эти две, и он в них разбирается,
В (тех), что две груди у нее, тысячеструйные, неиссякающие.
Не противясь, они надаивают питательную силу.
He understandeth them, he hath perceived them, her breasts
that pour a thousand streams, uninjured.
They unreluctantly yield strength and vigour.
He knows them, and he perceives them, the inexhaustible breasts of it (the honey-lash), that yield a thousand streams. Nourishment they pour out -without recalcitration.
avś_09.001.08.
हिङ्क॒रिक्रती बृहती॒ वयोधा॒ उच्चै॒र्घोषाभ्ये॒ति या॒ व्रत॒म् ।
त्री॒न् घर्मा॒न् अभि॒ वावशाना॒ मि॒माति मायुं॒ प॒यते प॒योभिः ॥८॥
hiṅkárikratī br̥hatī́ vayodhā́ uccáirghoṣābhyéti yā́ vratám |
trī́n gharmā́n abhí vāvaśānā́ mímāti māyúṃ páyate páyobhiḥ ||8||
Постоянно издающая (звук) «Хин!», могучая, дающая физическую силу,
Громкозвучная, (та), что идет навстречу (своему) долгу,
Пронзительно ревущая навстречу трем зноям,
Она мычит мычание, набухает от струй молока.
She who with voice upraised in constant clamour, mighty, life-
giving, goes unto her function,
Bellowing to the heated three libations, suckles with streams of
milk, and still is lowing.
The great (cow) that loudly gives forth the sound 'him,' that bestows strength, and goes with loud shouts to the holy act, bellowing with lust for the three (male) gharmas (fires), she lows, and drips with (streams) of milk.
avś_09.001.09.
या॒म् आ॒पीनाम् उपसी॒दन्त्य् आ॒पः शाक्वरा॒ वृषभा॒ ये॒ स्वरा॒जः ।
ते॒ वर्षन्ति ते॒ वर्षयन्ति तद्वि॒दे का॒मम् ऊ॒र्जम् आ॒पः ॥९॥
yā́m ā́pīnām upasī́danty ā́paḥ śākvarā́ vr̥ṣabhā́ yé svarā́jaḥ |
té varṣanti té varṣayanti tadvíde kā́mam ū́rjam ā́paḥ ||9||
Кого, когда она набухла, почитают воды,
Мощные быки, которые самовластны,—
Они изливают дождь, они побуждают (ее) излить дождь.
Тому, кто это знает, (исполненное) желание, физическую силу (даруют) воды.
On whom, well-fed, the Waters wait in worship, and steers and
self-refulgent bulls attend her.
For thee, for one like thee down pour the Waters, and cause
desire and strength to rain upon thee.
When the waters, the mighty bulls, self-sovereign, wait upon (the cow), swollen with milk, (then) they, the waters, pour nourishment (upon her), and cause her to pour nourishment at will for him that knoweth this.
avś_09.001.10.
स्तनयित्नु॒स् ते वा॒क् प्रजापते वृ॒षा शु॒ष्मं क्षिपसि भू॒म्याम् अ॒धि ।
अग्ने॒र् वा॒तान् मधुकशा॒ हि॒ जज्ञे॒ मरु॒ताम् उग्रा॒ नप्तिः॒ ॥१०॥ {१}
stanayitnús te vā́k prajāpate vŕ̥ṣā śúṣmaṃ kṣipasi bhū́myām ádhi |
agnér vā́tān madhukaśā́ hí jajñé marútām ugrā́ naptíḥ ||10|| {1}
Гром — твоя речь, о Праджапати.
Бык, ты швыряешь неистовство на землю.
Ведь медовая плеть родилась из огня, из ветра,
Грозная внучка Марутов.
The thunder is thy voice, O Lord of Creatures: a Bull, thou
castest on the earth thy vigour.
The Honey-whip, the Manus' first-born daughter, derives her
origin from Wind and Agni.
The thunder is thy voice, O Pragāpati; as a bull thou hurlest thy fire upon the earth. From the fire, and from the wind the honey-lash hath verily sprung, the strong child of the Maruts.
avś_09.001.11.
य॒था सो॒मः प्रातःसवने॒ अश्वि॒नोर् भवति प्रियः॒ ।
एवा॒ मे अश्विना व॒र्च आत्म॒नि ध्रियताम् ॥११॥
yáthā sómaḥ prātaḥsavané aśvínor bhavati priyáḥ |
evā́ me aśvinā várca ātmáni dhriyatām ||11||
Как сома на утреннем выжимании
Бывает приятным для Ашвинов,
Так, о Ашвины, блеск
Пусть будет сохранен в моем существе!
As at the morning sacrifice the Asvins twain love Soma well,
Even so may both the Asvins lay splendour and strength within
my soul.
As the soma at the morn ing-pressure is dear to the Asvins, thus in my own person, O Asvins, lustre shall be sustained!
avś_09.001.12.
य॒था सो॒मो द्विती॒ये स॒वन इन्द्राग्न्यो॒र् भवति प्रियः॒ ।
एवा॒ म इन्द्राग्नी व॒र्च आत्म॒नि ध्रियताम् ॥१२॥
yáthā sómo dvitī́ye sávana indrāgnyór bhavati priyáḥ |
evā́ ma indrāgnī várca ātmáni dhriyatām ||12||
Как сома на втором выжимании
Бывает приятным для Индры-и-Агни,
Так, о Индра-и-Агни, блеск
Пусть будет сохранен в моем существе!
As at the second sacrifice Indra and Agni love him well,
Let the pair, Indra Agni, lay splendour and strength within my
soul.
As the soma at the second (mid-day) pressure is dear to Indra and Agni, thus in my own person, O Indra, and Agni, lustre shall be sustained!
avś_09.001.13.
य॒था सो॒मस् तृती॒ये स॒वन ऋभूणां॒ भवति प्रियः॒ ।
एवा॒ म ऋभवो व॒र्च आत्म॒नि ध्रियताम् ॥१३॥
yáthā sómas tr̥tī́ye sávana r̥bhūṇā́ṃ bhavati priyáḥ |
evā́ ma r̥bhavo várca ātmáni dhriyatām ||13||
Как сома на третьем выжимании
Бывает приятным для Рибху,
Так, о Рибху, блеск
Пусть будет сохранен в моем существе!
As at third sacrifice Soma is the Ribhus' well-beloved one,
Even so may they, the Ribhus, store splendour and strength
within my soul.
As the soma at the third pressure (evening) is dear to the Ribhus, thus in my own person, O Ribhus, lustre shall be sustained!
avś_09.001.14.
म॒धु जनिषीय म॒धु वंसिषीय ।
प॒यस्वान् अग्न आ॒गमं तं॒ मा सं॒ सृज व॒र्चसा ॥१४॥
mádhu janiṣīya mádhu vaṃsiṣīya |
páyasvān agna ā́gamaṃ táṃ mā sáṃ sr̥ja várcasā ||14||
Пусть я произведу на свет мед!
Пусть я завоюю мед!
Я пришел, о Агни, богатый молоком.
Меня такого соедини с блеском!
Fain would I bring forth sweetness, fain would make it mine.
Bringing milk, Agni! have I come: splendour and strength
bestow on me!
May I beget honey for myself; may I obtain honey for myself! Bringing milk, O Agni, I have come:. endow me with lustre!
avś_09.001.15.
सं॒ माग्ने व॒र्चसा सृज सं॒ प्रज॒या स॒म् आ॒युषा ।
विद्यु॒र् मे अस्य॒ देवा॒ इ॒न्द्रो विद्यात् सह॒ ऋ॒षिभिः ॥१५॥
sáṃ māgne várcasā sr̥ja sáṃ prajáyā sám ā́yuṣā |
vidyúr me asyá devā́ índro vidyāt sahá ŕ̥ṣibhiḥ ||15||
Соедини меня, о Агни, с блеском,
С потомством, с долголетием!
Пусть боги узнают обо мне таком,
Пусть Индра узнает вместе с риши!
Grant me, O Agni, splendid strength, and progeny, and length-
ened life.
May the Gods know me as I am, may Indra with the Rishis
know.
Endow me, O Agni, with lustre, endow me with offspring and with life! May the gods take note of this (prayer) of mine; may Indra together with the Rishis (take note of it)!
avś_09.001.16.
य॒था म॒धु मधुकृ॒तः संभ॒रन्ति म॒धाव् अ॒धि ।
एवा॒ मे अश्विना व॒र्च आत्म॒नि ध्रियताम् ॥१६॥
yáthā mádhu madhukŕ̥taḥ saṃbháranti mádhāv ádhi |
evā́ me aśvinā várca ātmáni dhriyatām ||16||
Как пчелы
Непрестанно собирают мед,
Так, о Ашвины, блеск
Пусть будет сохранен в моем существе!
As honey-bees collect and add fresh honey to their honey store,
Even so may both the Asvins lay splendour and strength within
my soul.
As bees carry together honey upon honey, thus in my own person, O Asvins, lustre shall be sustained!
avś_09.001.17.
य॒था म॒क्षाः इदं॒ म॒धु न्यञ्ज॒न्ति म॒धाव् अ॒धि ।
एवा॒ मे अश्विना व॒र्चस् ते॒जो ब॒लम् ओ॒जश् च ध्रियताम् ॥१७॥
yáthā mákṣāḥ idáṃ mádhu nyañjánti mádhāv ádhi |
evā́ me aśvinā várcas téjo bálam ójaś ca dhriyatām ||17||
Как мухи
Непрестанно размазывают мед,
Так, о Ашвины, пусть будет сохранен
Мой блеск, красота, сила и мощь!
As over honey flies besmear this honey which the bees have
made,
So may both Asvins lay in me splendour and strength and
power and might.
As the bees pile this honey upon honey, thus in my own person, O Asvins, lustre, brilliance, strength, and force shall be sustained!
avś_09.001.18.
य॒द् गिरि॒षु प॒र्वतेषु गो॒ष्व् अ॒श्वेषु य॒न् म॒धु ।
सु॒रायां सिच्य॒मानायां य॒त् त॒त्र म॒धु त॒न् म॒यि ॥१८॥
yád giríṣu párvateṣu góṣv áśveṣu yán mádhu |
súrāyāṃ sicyámānāyāṃ yát tátra mádhu tán máyi ||18||
Какой мед на холмах, на горах,
Какой в коровах, в конях,
В выливаемой суре —
Какой мед там, он (пусть будет) во мне!
May all the sweetness that is found in hills and mountains,
steeds and kine,
And wine that floweth from the cup,—may all that sweetness
be in me.
The honey that is in the mountains, in the heights; in the cows, and in the horses; the honey which is in the surā (brandy) as it is being poured out, that shall be in me!
avś_09.001.19.
अ॒श्विना सारघे॒ण मा म॒धुनाङ्क्तं शुभस् पती ।
य॒था व॒र्चस्वतीं वा॒चम् आव॒दानि ज॒नां अ॒नु ॥१९॥
áśvinā sāraghéṇa mā mádhunāṅktaṃ śubhas patī |
yáthā várcasvatīṃ vā́cam āvádāni jánām̐ ánu ||19||
О Ашвины, пчелиным медом меня
Намажьте, о повелители красоты,
Чтобы мог я обратиться к людям
С блистательной речью!
May both the Asvins, Lords of Light, balm me with honey of
the bees,
That I may speak among the folk words full of splendour and
of strength.
O Asvins, lords of brightness, anoint me with the honey of the bee, that I may speak forceful speech among men!
avś_09.001.20.
स्तनयित्नु॒स् ते वा॒क् प्रजापते वृ॒षा शु॒ष्मं क्षिपसि भू॒म्यां दिवि॒ ।
तां॒ पश॒व उ॒प जीवन्ति स॒र्वे ते॒नो से॒षम् ऊ॒र्जं पिपर्ति ॥२०॥
stanayitnús te vā́k prajāpate vŕ̥ṣā śúṣmaṃ kṣipasi bhū́myāṃ diví |
tā́ṃ paśáva úpa jīvanti sárve téno séṣam ū́rjaṃ piparti ||20||
Гром — твоя речь, о Праджапати.
Бык, ты швыряешь неистовство на землю, на небо.
Ею поддерживают себя все домашние животные.
Благодаря этому она расточает подкрепление (и) питательную силу.
The thunder is thy voice, O Lord of Creatures: a Bull, thou
castest strength on earth and heaven.
To that all cattle look for their existence: with this she nourishes
their force and vigour.
The thunder is thy speech, O Pragāpati; as a bull thou hurlest thy fire upon earth and heaven. All animals live upon it (the earth), and she with it (Pragāpati's fire) fills nourishment and food.
avś_09.001.21.
पृथिवी॒ दण्डो॒ ऽन्त॒रिक्षं ग॒र्भो द्यौः॒ क॒शा विद्यु॒त् प्रकशो॒ हिरण्य॒यो बिन्दुः॒ ॥२१॥
pr̥thivī́ daṇḍó 'ntárikṣaṃ gárbho dyáuḥ káśā vidyút prakaśó hiraṇyáyo bindúḥ ||21||
Земля — палка, воздушное пространство— зародыш, небо — плеть, молния — ремень у плети, шарик — из золота.
The Whip itself is Heaven, Earth is the handle, the point of
juncture is the Air's mid-region.
The lash is lightning, and the tip is golden.
The earth is the staff, the atmosphere the embryo, the heaven the whip (itself?), the lightning the whip-cord; of gold is the tip (of the whip?).
avś_09.001.22.
यो॒ वै॒ क॒शायाः सप्त॒ म॒धूनि वे॒द म॒धुमान् भवति ।
ब्राह्मण॒श् च रा॒जा च धेनु॒श् चानड्वां॒श् च व्रीहि॒श् च य॒वश् च म॒धु सप्तम॒म् ॥२२॥
yó vái káśāyāḥ saptá mádhūni véda mádhumān bhavati |
brāhmaṇáś ca rā́jā ca dhenúś cānaḍvā́ṃś ca vrīhíś ca yávaś ca mádhu saptamám ||22||
А кто знает семь видов меда у плети, становится богатым медом: брахмáн и царь, дойная корова и тягловый бык, рис и ячмень, мед — седьмой.
Whoever knows the Whip's seven kinds of honey, becomes
himself a man endowed with sweetness.
Brāhman and King, the draught-ox and the milch-cow, barley
and rice, and honey is the seventh.
He that knoweth the seven honies of the whip becomes rich in honey; (to wit), the Brāhmana, the king, the cow, the ox, rice, barley, and honey as the seventh.
avś_09.001.23.
म॒धुमान् भवति म॒धुमद् अस्याहार्यं॑ भवति ।
म॒धुमतो लोका॒न् जयति य॒ एवं॒ वे॒द ॥२३॥
mádhumān bhavati mádhumad asyāhāryàṃ bhavati |
mádhumato lokā́n jayati yá eváṃ véda ||23||
Он становится богатым медом, богатой медом становится его пища. Богатые медом миры побеждает (тот), кто так знает.
Sweet is the man, sweet are his goods and chattels: he who
knows this conquers the worlds of sweetness.
Rich in honey becomes he, rich in honey become his appurtenances, worlds rich in honey does he win, he that knoweth thus.
avś_09.001.24.
य॒द् वीध्रे॒ स्तन॒यति प्रजा॒पतिर् एव॒ त॒त् प्रजा॒भ्यः प्रादु॒र् भवति ।
त॒स्मात् प्राचीनोपवीत॒स् तिष्ठे प्र॒जापते॒ ऽनु मा बुध्यस्वे॒ति ।
अ॒न्व् एनं प्रजा॒ अ॒नु प्रजा॒पतिर् बुध्यते य॒ एवं॒ वे॒द ॥२४॥ {२}
yád vīdhré stanáyati prajā́patir evá tát prajā́bhyaḥ prādúr bhavati |
tásmāt prācīnopavītás tiṣṭhe prájāpaté 'nu mā budhyasvéti |
ánv enaṃ prajā́ ánu prajā́patir budhyate yá eváṃ véda ||24|| {2}
Когда при ясном небе гремит гром, это Праджапати становится видимым для существ. Поэтому стою я, надев священный шнур через правое плечо (и говорю) так: «О Праджапати, заметь меня!». Существа (замечают), Праджапати замечает того, кто так знает.
The thundering of Prajāpati in heaven is verily manifest to living
creatures.
Therefore I stand from right to left invested, and, O Prajāpati,
I cry, regard me!
The man who hath this knowledge is regarded by living beings
and the Lord of Creatures.
When in a bright sky it thunders, then Pragāpati manifests himself to (his) creatures (pragāh). Therefore do I stand with the sacred cord suspended from the right shoulder (prākinopavita), saying, 'O Pragāpati, watch over me!' The creatures (pragāh) watch over him, Pragāpati watches over him, that knoweth thus.
