avś_11.001.01.

अ॒ग्ने जा॒यस्वा॒दितिर् नाथिते॒यं॒ ब्रह्मौदनं॒ पचति पुत्र॒कामा ।
सप्तऋष॒यो भूतकृ॒तस् ते॒ त्वा मन्थन्तु प्रज॒या सहे॒ह॒ ॥१॥

ágne jā́yasvā́ditir nāthitéyáṃ brahmaudanáṃ pacati putrákāmā |
saptar̥ṣáyo bhūtakŕ̥tas té tvā manthantu prajáyā sahéhá ||1||

Агни, рождайся! Адити, обращаясь здесь за помощью,
Варит брахманскую рисовую кашу, желая сына.
Семеро Риши, создатели существования,
Пусть добудут тебя здесь трением вместе с потомством!

Agni, spring forth! Here Aditi, afflicted, cooks a Brahmaudana,
yearning for children.
Let the Seven Rishis, World-creators, rub thee into existence
here with gift of offspring.

O Agni, come into being! Aditi here in her throes, longing for sons, is cooking the porridge for the Brahmans, The seven Rishis, that did create the beings, shall here churn thee, along with progeny!

avś_11.001.02.

कृणुत॒ धूमं॒ वृषणः सखायो॒ ऽद्रोघाविता वा॒चम् अ॒छ ।
अय॒म् अग्निः॒ पृतनाषा॒ट् सुवी॒रो ये॒न देवा॒ अ॒सहन्त द॒स्यून् ॥२॥

kr̥ṇutá dhūmáṃ vr̥ṣaṇaḥ sakhāyó 'droghāvitā vā́cam ácha |
ayám agníḥ pr̥tanāṣā́ṭ suvī́ro yéna devā́ ásahanta dásyūn ||2||

Создайте дым, о быки, друзья,
Безобманные помощники при (прославляющей) речи!
Вот Агни, победитель в боях, очень мужественный,
С чьей помощью боги одолели дасью.

Raise, as I bid, the smoke, my strong companions, lovers of free-
dom from deceit and malice!
Victor in fight heroic, here is Agni by whom the Gods subdued
the hostile demons.

Produce the smoke, ye lusty friends; unharmed by wiles go ye into the contest! Here is the Agni (fire) who gains battles, and commands powerful warriors, with whom the gods did conquer the demons.

avś_11.001.03.

अ॒ग्ने॒ ऽजनिष्ठा महते॒ वीर्या॑य ब्रह्मौदना॒य प॒क्तवे जातवेदः ।
सप्तऋष॒यो भूतकृ॒तस् ते॒ त्वाजीजनन्न् अस्यै॒ रयिं॒ स॒र्ववीरं नि॒ यछ ॥३॥

ágné 'janiṣṭhā mahaté vīryā̀ya brahmaudanā́ya páktave jātavedaḥ |
saptar̥ṣáyo bhūtakŕ̥tas té tvājījanann asyái rayíṃ sárvavīraṃ ní yacha ||3||

О Агни, ты родился для великого геройства,
Для приготовления брахманской рисовой каши, о Джатаведас.
Семеро Риши, создатели существования,
Породили тебя. Награди ее богатством со всеми героями!

Thou, Agni, wart produced for mighty valour, to cook Brahmau-
dana, O Jātavedas.
Seven Rishis, makers of the world, begat thee, Grant to this
woman wealth with store of heroes.

O Agni, to a great heroic deed thou wast aroused, to cook the Brahman's porridge, O Gātavedas! The seven Rishis, that did create the beings, have produced thee. Grant her (the wife) wealth together with undiminished heroes!

avś_11.001.04.

स॒मिद्धो अग्ने समि॒धा स॒म् इध्यस्व विद्वा॒न् देवा॒न् यज्ञि॒यां ए॒ह॒ वक्षः ।
ते॒भ्यो हविः॒ श्रप॒यं जातवेद उत्तमं॒ ना॒कम् अ॒धि रोहयेम॒म् ॥४॥

sámiddho agne samídhā sám idhyasva vidvā́n devā́n yajñíyām̐ éhá vakṣaḥ |
tébhyo havíḥ śrapáyaṃ jātaveda uttamáṃ nā́kam ádhi rohayemám ||4||

Зажженный, о Агни, пламеней от дров!
Как знаток привези сюда богов, достойных жертв!
Готовя для них приношение, о Джатаведас,
Подними этого (человека) на высший небосвод!

Burn up, O Agni, kindled with the fuel. Knowing the Gods who
merit worship, bring them.
Cooking, for these, oblation, Jātavedas! lift up this man to
heaven's most lofty summit.

Burn, O Agni, after having been kindled by the firewood, bring skilfully hither the gods that are to be revered! Causing the oblation to cook for these (Brahmans), do thou raise this (sacrificer) to the highest firmament!

avś_11.001.05.

त्रेधा॒ भागो॒ नि॒हितो यः॒ पुरा॒ वो देवा॒नां पितृ̄णां॒ म॒र्त्यानाम् ।
अं॒शां जानीध्वं वि॒ भजामि ता॒न् वो यो॒ देवा॒नां स॒ इमां॒ पारयाति ॥५॥

tredhā́ bhāgó níhito yáḥ purā́ vo devā́nāṃ pitr̥̄ṇā́ṃ mártyānām |
áṃśāṃ jānīdhvaṃ ví bhajāmi tā́n vo yó devā́nāṃ sá imā́ṃ pārayāti ||5||

Трояко установлена доля, которая у вас издревле:
Для богов, для отцов, для смертных.
Знайте (эти) части — я делю их для вас.
(Вот) та, которая для богов, пусть она перевезет ее на ту сторону!

Your portion from of old is triply parted, portion of Gods, of
Fathers, and of mortals.
Know, all, your shares. I deal them out among you. The portion
of the Gods shall save this woman.

The, threefold share which was of yore assigned to you (belongs) to the gods, the (departed) Fathers, and to the mortals (the priests). Know your shares! I divide them for you: the (share) of the gods shall protect this (woman)!

avś_11.001.06.

अ॒ग्ने स॒हस्वान् अभिभू॒र् अभी॒द् असि नी॒चो न्य् उ॑ब्ज द्विषतः॒ सप॒त्नान् ।
इयं॒ मा॒त्रा मीय॒माना मिता॒ च सजातां॒स् ते बलिहृ॒तः कृणोतु ॥६॥

ágne sáhasvān abhibhū́r abhī́d asi nī́co ny ùbja dviṣatáḥ sapátnān |
iyáṃ mā́trā mīyámānā mitā́ ca sajātā́ṃs te balihŕ̥taḥ kr̥ṇotu ||6||

О Агни, могущественный, осиливающий, ты ведь осиливаешь.
Прижми к земле ненавидящих (нас) соперников!
Эта мера, измеряемая и измеренная,
Пусть она заставит твоих товарищей платить тебе дань!

Strong art thou, Agni, conquering, all-surpassing. Crush down
our foemen, ruin those who hate us.
So let this measure, measured, being measured, make all our kin
thy tributary vassals.

O Agni, possessed of might, superior, thou dost without fail prevail! Bend down to the ground our hateful rivals! — This measure, that is being measured, and has been measured, may constitute thy kin into (people) that render thee tribute!

avś_11.001.07.

साकं॒ सजातैः॒ प॒यसा सहै॒ध्य् उ॒द् उब्जैनां महते॒ वीर्या॑य ।
ऊर्ध्वो॒ ना॒कस्या॒धि रोह विष्ट॒पं स्वर्गो॒ लोक॒ इ॒ति यं॒ व॒दन्ति ॥७॥

sākáṃ sajātáiḥ páyasā saháidhy úd ubjaināṃ mahaté vīryā̀ya |
ūrdhvó nā́kasyā́dhi roha viṣṭápaṃ svargó loká íti yáṃ vádanti ||7||

Будь наделен молоком вместе с товарищами!
Подвигни ее на великое геройство!
Подними высоко на вершину небосвода,
Которую называют небесным миром!

Increase with kinsmen and with all abundance: to mighty strength
and power lift up this woman.
Erect, rise upward to the sky's high station, rise to the lofty
world which men call Svarga.

Mayest thou together with thy kin be endowed with sap! Elevate her (the wife) to great heroism! Ascend on high to the base of the firmament, which they call 'the world of brightness'!

avś_11.001.08.

इयं॒ मही॒ प्र॒ति गृह्णातु च॒र्म पृथिवी॒ देवी॒ सुमनस्य॒माना ।
अ॒थ गछेम सुकृत॒स्य लोक॒म् ॥८॥

iyáṃ mahī́ práti gr̥hṇātu cárma pr̥thivī́ devī́ sumanasyámānā |
átha gachema sukr̥tásya lokám ||8||

Пусть эта великая примет шкуру,
Божественная земля, благожелательная.
Тогда пусть мы отправимся в мир благого деяния!

May this great Earth receive the skin, this Goddess Prithivī,
showing us her love and favour. Then may we go unto the
world of virtue.

This great goddess earth, kindly disposed, shall receive the (sacrificial) skin! Then may we go to the world of well-doing (heaven)!

avś_11.001.09.

एतौ॒ ग्रा॒वाणौ सयु॒जा युङ्धि च॒र्मणि नि॒र्बिन्ध्य् अंशू॒न् य॒जमानाय साधु॒ ।
अवघ्नती॒ नि॒ जहि य॒ इमां॒ पृतन्य॒व ऊर्ध्वं॒ प्रजा॒म् उद्भ॒रन्त्य् उ॒द् ऊह ॥९॥

etáu grā́vāṇau sayújā yuṅdhi cármaṇi nírbindhy aṃśū́n yájamānāya sādhú |
avaghnatī́ ní jahi yá imā́ṃ pr̥tanyáva ūrdhváṃ prajā́m udbháranty úd ūha ||9||

Используй на шкуре эти два связанных друг с другом давильных камня!
Хорошенько раздави для жертвователя побеги!
Разбивая, раздави (те), которые к ней враждебны!
Подними потомство, высоко вознося (его)!

Fix on the skin these two joined press-stones, duly rending the
fibres for the sacrificer.
Strike down and slay those who assail this woman, and elevating
raise on high her offspring.

Lay these two press-stones, well coupled, upon the skin; crush skilfully the (soma-) shoots for the sacrificer! Crush down, (O earth), and beat down, those who are hostile to her (the wife); lift up high, and elevate her offspring!

avś_11.001.10.

गृहाण॒ ग्रा॒वाणौ सकृ॒तौ वीर ह॒स्त आ॒ ते देवा॒ यज्ञि॒या यज्ञ॒म् अगुः ।
त्र॒यो व॒रा यतमां॒स् त्वं॒ वृणीषे॒ ता॒स् ते स॒मृद्धीर् इह॒ राधयामि ॥१०॥ {१}

gr̥hāṇá grā́vāṇau sakŕ̥tau vīra hásta ā́ te devā́ yajñíyā yajñám aguḥ |
tráyo várā yatamā́ṃs tváṃ vr̥ṇīṣé tā́s te sámr̥ddhīr ihá rādhayāmi ||10|| {1}

Возьми в руку, о герой, два давильных камня, действующих одновременно!
Боги, достойные жертв, пришли на твою жертву.
Три желания, которые ты выбираешь,
Я даю тебе их здесь осуществить.

Grasp with thy hand, O man, the well-formed press-stones: the
holy Gods have come unto thy worship.
Three wishes of thy heart which thou electest, these happy gains
for thee I here make ready.

Take into thy hands, O man, the press-stones that work together: the gods that are to be revered have come to thy sacrifice! Whatever three wishes thou dost choose, I shall here procure for thee unto fulfilment.

avś_11.001.11.

इयं॒ ते धीति॒र् इद॒म् उ ते जनि॒त्रं गृह्णा॒तु त्वा॒म् अ॒दितिः शू॒रपुत्रा ।
प॒रा पुनीहि य॒ इमां॒ पृतन्य॒वो ऽस्यै॒ रयिं॒ स॒र्ववीरं नि॒ यछ ॥११॥

iyáṃ te dhītír idám u te janítraṃ gr̥hṇā́tu tvā́m áditiḥ śū́raputrā |
párā punīhi yá imā́ṃ pr̥tanyávo 'syái rayíṃ sárvavīraṃ ní yacha ||11||

Вот твое намерение и вот место твоего рождения.
Пусть схватит тебя Адити, чьи сыновья — герои!
Вычисти вон (тех), кто враждебен к ней!
Даруй ей богатство со всеми героями!

Here thy devotion is, here is thy birthplace. Aditi, Mother of
brave sons, accept thee!
Wipe away those who fight against this woman with wealth and
store of goodly sons endow her.

This, (O winnowing-basket), is thy purpose, and this thy nature: may Aditi, mother of heroes, take hold of thee! Winnow out those who are hostile to this (woman); afford her wealth and undiminished heroes!

avś_11.001.12.

उपश्वसे॒ द्रुव॒ये सीदता यूयं॒ वि॒ विच्यध्वं यज्ञियासस् तु॒षैः ।
श्रिया॒ समाना॒न् अ॒ति स॒र्वान्त् स्यामाधस्पदं॒ द्विषत॒स् पादयामि ॥१२॥

upaśvasé druváye sīdatā yūyáṃ ví vicyadhvaṃ yajñiyāsas túṣaiḥ |
śriyā́ samānā́n áti sárvānt syāmādhaspadáṃ dviṣatás pādayāmi ||12||

Пусть вы сидите в продуваемом (?) деревянном сосуде,
Отвеивайтесь от шелухи, о достойные жертвоприношения!
Благодаря удаче пусть превзойдем мы всех равных (нам)!
Я швыряю под ноги ненавидящих нас!

Rest in the roaring frame of wood: be parted from husk and
chaff, ye Sacrificial Fibres.
May we surpass in glory all our rivals. I cast beneath my feet
the men who hate us.

Do ye, (O grains), remain in the (winnowing-) basket, while (the wind) blows over you; be separated, ye who are fit for the sacrifice, from the chaff! May we in happiness be superior to all our equals! I bend down under our feet those that hate us.

avś_11.001.13.

प॒रेहि नारि पु॒नर् ए॒हि क्षिप्र॒म् अपां॒ त्वा गोष्ठो॒ अ॒ध्य् अरुक्षद् भ॒राय ।
ता॒सां गृह्णीताद् यतमा॒ यज्ञि॒या अ॒सन् विभा॒ज्य धीरी॒तरा जहीतात् ॥१३॥

párehi nāri púnar éhi kṣiprám apā́ṃ tvā goṣṭhó ádhy arukṣad bhárāya |
tā́sāṃ gr̥hṇītād yatamā́ yajñíyā ásan vibhā́jya dhīrī́tarā jahītāt ||13||

Уходи, женщина, (и) быстро возвращайся.
Стойло для вод взобралось на тебя, чтобы ты несла.
Хватай из них (те), что будут самыми подходящими для жертвы.
Искусно отделив их, остальные отбрось!

Go, Dame, and quickly come again: the waters, enclosed, have
mounted thee that thou mayst bear them.
Take thou of these such as are fit for service: skilfully separating.
leave the others.

Retire, O woman, and return promptly! The stable of the waters (water-vessel) has settled upon thee, that thou mayest carry it: of these (the waters) thou shalt take such as are fit for sacrifice; having intelligently divided them off, thou shalt leave the rest behind!

avś_11.001.14.

ए॒मा॒ अगुर् योषि॒तः शु॒म्भमाना उ॒त् तिष्ठ नारि तव॒सं रभस्व ।
सुप॒त्नी प॒त्या प्रज॒या प्रजा॒वत्य् आ॒ त्वागन् यज्ञः॒ प्र॒ति कुम्भं॒ गृभाय ॥१४॥

émā́ agur yoṣítaḥ śúmbhamānā út tiṣṭha nāri tavásaṃ rabhasva |
supátnī pátyā prajáyā prajā́vaty ā́ tvāgan yajñáḥ práti kumbháṃ gr̥bhāya ||14||

Пришли эти юные девы, украшая себя.
Поднимись, женщина, держись за могучего.
Счастливая жена с мужем, обладательница потомства с потомством.
К тебе пришла жертва — бери кувшин!

Hither these Dames have come in radiant beauty. Arise and seize=
upon thy strength, O woman.
To thee hath sacrifice come: take the pitcher, blest with a good
lord, children, children's children.

These bright women, (the waters), have come hither. Arise, thou woman, and gather strength! To thee, that art rendered by thy husband a true wife, (and) by thy children rich in offspring, the sacrifice has come: receive the (water-) vessel!

avś_11.001.15.

ऊर्जो॒ भागो॒ नि॒हितो यः॒ पुरा॒ व ऋ॒षिप्रशिष्टाप॒ आ॒ भरैताः॒ ।
अयं॒ यज्ञो॒ गातुवि॒न् नाथवि॒त् प्रजावि॒द् उग्रः॒ पशुवि॒द् वीरवि॒द् वो अस्तु ॥१५॥

ūrjó bhāgó níhito yáḥ purā́ va ŕ̥ṣipraśiṣṭāpá ā́ bharaitā́ḥ |
ayáṃ yajñó gātuvín nāthavít prajāvíd ugráḥ paśuvíd vīravíd vo astu ||15||

Назначена доля подкрепляющей силы, которая издавна ваша.
Наученная риши, принеси эти воды!
Да будет эта жертва для вас находящей выход, защиту,
Потомство, грозной, находящей домашний скот (и) героев!

Instructed by the Rishis, bring those waters, the share of strength
which was of old assigned you.
Let this effectual sacrifice afford you protection, fortune, off-
spring, men, and cattle.

The share of food that belongs to you of yore has been set aside for you. Instructed by the Rishis bring thou (woman) hither this water! May this sacrifice win advancement for you, win prAection, win offspring for you; may it be mighty, win cattle, and heroes for you!

avś_11.001.16.

अ॒ग्ने चरु॒र् यज्ञि॒यस् त्वा॒ध्य् अरुक्षच् छु॒चिस् त॒पिष्ठस् त॒पसा तपैनम् ।
आर्षेया॒ दैवा॒ अभिसंग॒त्य भाग॒म् इमं॒ त॒पिष्ठा ऋतु॒भिस् तपन्तु ॥१६॥

ágne carúr yajñíyas tvā́dhy arukṣac chúcis tápiṣṭhas tápasā tapainam |
ārṣeyā́ daivā́ abhisaṃgátya bhāgám imáṃ tápiṣṭhā r̥túbhis tapantu ||16||

О Агни, котел, достойный жертв, взошел на тебя;
Яркий, раскаленный, раскали его жаром!
Пусть божественные потомки риши, объединившись вокруг (своей) доли,
Крайне раскаленные, раскалят ее в соответствии с временами года!

Agni, on thee the sacrificial caldron hath mounted: shining,.
fiercely flaming, heat it.
May hottest flames, divine, sprung from the Rishis, gathering,
with the Seasons, heat this portion.

O Agni, the sacrificial pot has settled upon thee: do thou shining, brightly glowing, heat it with thy glow! May the divine descendants of the Rishis, assembled about their share (of the porridge), full of fervour, heat this (pot) at the proper time!

avś_11.001.17.

शुद्धाः॒ पूता॒ योषि॒तो यज्ञि॒या इमा॒ आ॒पश् चरु॒म् अ॒व सर्पन्तु शुभ्राः॒ ।
अ॒दुः प्रजां॒ बहुलां॒ पशू॒न् नः पक्तौ॒दन॒स्य सुकृ॒ताम् एतु लोक॒म् ॥१७॥

śuddhā́ḥ pūtā́ yoṣíto yajñíyā imā́ ā́paś carúm áva sarpantu śubhrā́ḥ |
áduḥ prajā́ṃ bahulā́ṃ paśū́n naḥ paktáudanásya sukŕ̥tām etu lokám ||17||

Эти чистые, очищенные, достойные жертвоприношения юницы —
Воды пусть проберутся вниз в котел, сверкающие!
Они дали нам обильное потомство, домашний скот.
Пусть тот, кто готовит рисовую кашу, отправится в мир благих деяний!

Purified, bright, and holy, let these Women, these lucid waters
glide into the caldron.
Cattle and many children may they give us. May he who cooks.
the Odana go to heaven.

Pure and clear may these sacrificial women, the waters bright, flow into the pot! The), have given us abundant offspring and cattle. May he that cooks the porridge go to the world of the pious (heaven)!

avś_11.001.18.

ब्र॒ह्मणा शुद्धा॒ उत॒ पूता॒ घृते॒न सो॒मस्यांश॒वस् तण्डुला॒ यज्ञि॒या इमे॒ ।
अपः॒ प्र॒ विशत प्र॒ति गृह्णातु वश् चरु॒र् इमं॒ पक्त्वा॒ सुकृ॒ताम् एत लोक॒म् ॥१८॥

bráhmaṇā śuddhā́ utá pūtā́ ghr̥téna sómasyāṃśávas taṇḍulā́ yajñíyā imé |
apáḥ prá viśata práti gr̥hṇātu vaś carúr imáṃ paktvā́ sukŕ̥tām eta lokám ||18||

Чистые благодаря молитве, очищенные жиром,
Побеги сомы — эти рисовые зерна, достойные жертвоприношения.
Войдите вы в воды! Пусть котел получит вас!
Приготовив это, отправляйтесь в мир благих деяний!

Ye, Sacrificial Rice and Soma Fibres, cleansed and made pure by
prayer and molten butter.
Enter the water: let the caldron take you. May he who dresses
this ascend to heaven.

Purified by (our) prayer, and clarified by the ghee are the soma-shoots, (and) these sacrificial grains. Enter the water; may the pot receive you! When ye have cookect this (porridge) go ye to the world of the pious (heaven)!

avś_11.001.19.

उरुः॒ प्रथस्व महता॒ महिम्ना॒ सह॒स्रपृष्ठः सुकृत॒स्य लोके॒ ।
पितामहाः॒ पित॒रः प्रजो॒पजा॒हं॒ पक्ता॒ पञ्चदश॒स् ते अस्मि ॥१९॥

urúḥ prathasva mahatā́ mahimnā́ sahásrapr̥ṣṭhaḥ sukr̥tásya loké |
pitāmahā́ḥ pitáraḥ prajópajā́háṃ paktā́ pañcadaśás te asmi ||19||

Широко распространись, с великим величием,
Тысячеспинная в мире благого деяния!
Деды, отцы, потомки, далекая родня —
Я твой пятнадцатый приготовитель.

Expand thyself abroad in all thy greatness, with thousand Prish-
thas, in the world of virtue.
Grandfathers, fathers, children, and descendants, fifteenth am I
to thee when I have dressed it.

Spread out far unto great extent, with a thousand surfaces, in the world of the pious! Grandfathers, fathers, children, grandchildren — I am the fifteenth one that did cook thee.

avś_11.001.20.

सह॒स्रपृष्ठः शत॒धारो अ॒क्षितो ब्रह्मौदनो॒ देवया॒नः स्वर्गः॒ ।
अमूं॒स् त आ॒ दधामि प्रज॒या रेषयैनान् बलिहारा॒य मृडतान् म॒ह्यम् एव॒ ॥२०॥ {२}

sahásrapr̥ṣṭhaḥ śatádhāro ákṣito brahmaudanó devayā́naḥ svargáḥ |
amū́ṃs ta ā́ dadhāmi prajáyā reṣayainān balihārā́ya mr̥ḍatān máhyam evá ||20|| {2}

Тысячеспинная, с сотней потоков, неисчерпаемая —
(Такова) брахманская рисовая каша, направляющаяся к богам, движущаяся по небу.
(А) тех, (врагов), я отдаю тебе вместе с потомством — повреди их!
Мне же окажи милость за то, что я платил дань!

With thousand streams and Prishthas, undecaying, Brahmaudana
is celestial, God-reaching.
Those I give up to thee with all their children. Force them to
tribute, but to me be gracious.

The porridge has a thousand surfaces, a hundred streams, and is indestructible; it is the road of the gods, leads to heaven. Yonder (enemies) do I place upon thee: injure them and their offspring; (but) to me that brings gifts thou shalt be merciful!

avś_11.001.21.

उदे॒हि वे॒दिं प्रज॒या वर्धयैनां नुद॒स्व र॒क्षः प्रतरं॒ धेह्य् एनाम् ।
श्रिया॒ समाना॒न् अ॒ति स॒र्वान्त् स्यामाधस्पदं॒ द्विषत॒स् पादयामि ॥२१॥

udéhi védiṃ prajáyā vardhayaināṃ nudásva rákṣaḥ prataráṃ dhehy enām |
śriyā́ samānā́n áti sárvānt syāmādhaspadáṃ dviṣatás pādayāmi ||21||

Поднимись на алтарь! Усиль ее потомством!
Оттолкни ракшаса! Продвинь ее дальше!
Удачей пусть превзойдем мы всех равных!
Я швыряю под ноги ненавидящих нас!

Rise to the altar: bless this dame with offspring. Promote this
woman; drive away the demons.
May we surpass in glory all our rivals. I cast beneath my feet the

Step upon the altar (vedi); make this woman thrive in her progeny; repel the demons.; advance her! May we in happiness be superior to all our equals! I bend down under our feet all those that hate us.

avś_11.001.22.

अभ्या॒वर्तस्व पशु॒भिः सहै॒नां प्रत्य॒ङ्ङ् एनां देव॒ताभिः सहै॒धि ।
मा॒ त्वा प्रा॒पच् छप॒थो मा॒भिचारः॒ स्वे॒ क्षे॒त्रे अनमीवा॒ वि॒ राज ॥२२॥

abhyā́vartasva paśúbhiḥ saháināṃ pratyáṅṅ enāṃ devátābhiḥ saháidhi |
mā́ tvā prā́pac chapátho mā́bhicāráḥ své kṣétre anamīvā́ ví rāja ||22||

Повернись к ней вместе с домашним скотом!
Лицом вперед иди к ней вместе с божествами!
Да не настигнет тебя ни проклятье, ни колдовство!
Управляйся на своем поле, лишенный болезней!

Approach this woman here with store of cattle: together with
the deities come to meet her.
Let not a curse or imprecation reach thee: in thine own seat
shine forth exempt from sickness.

Turn towards her with cattle, (thou pot), face towards her, together with the divine powers! Neither curses nor hostile magic shall reach thee; rule in thy dwelling free from disease!

avś_11.001.23.

ऋते॒न तष्टा॒ म॒नसा हितै॒षा॒ ब्रह्मौदन॒स्य वि॒हिता वे॒दिर् अ॒ग्रे ।
अंसध्रीं॒ शुद्धा॒म् उ॒प धेहि नारि त॒त्रौदनं॒ सादय दैवा॒नाम् ॥२३॥

r̥téna taṣṭā́ mánasā hitáiṣā́ brahmaudanásya víhitā védir ágre |
aṃsadhrī́ṃ śuddhā́m úpa dhehi nāri tátraudanáṃ sādaya daivā́nām ||23||

Построенный по закону, установленный с пониманием,
Этот алтарь был с (самого) начала предназначен для брахманской рисовой каши.
Поставь вычищенный сосуд для плеча (?), о женщина,
В него помести рисовую кашу божествам!

Fashioned at first by Right, set by the spirit, this altar of Brahmau-
dana was appointed.
Place the pure boiler on it, woman! set thou therein the rice
mess of Celestial Beings.

Properly built, placed with care, this altar (vedi) has been arranged of yore for the Brahmans porridge. Put it, O woman, upon the purified amsadhrl; place there the porridge for the divine (Brāhmanas)!

avś_11.001.24.

अ॒दितेर् ह॒स्तां स्रु॒चम् एतां॒ द्विती॒यां सप्तऋष॒यो भूतकृ॒तो या॒म् अ॒कृण्वन् ।
सा॒ गा॒त्राणि विदु॒ष्य् ओदन॒स्य द॒र्विर् वे॒द्याम् अ॒ध्य् एनं चिनोतु ॥२४॥

áditer hástāṃ srúcam etā́ṃ dvitī́yāṃ saptar̥ṣáyo bhūtakŕ̥to yā́m ákr̥ṇvan |
sā́ gā́trāṇi vidúṣy odanásya dárvir védyām ádhy enaṃ cinotu ||24||

Руку Адити — этот второй черпак,
Который сделали Семеро Риши, создатели существ, —
Эта ложка, знающая составные части каши,
Пусть соберет (все) это на алтаре!

This second hand of Aditi, this ladle which the Seven Rishis,
world-creators, fashioned.
May this scoop deftly pile upon the altar, therein, the members
of the rice-oblation.

May this sacrificial ladle (sruk), the second hand of Aditi, which the seven Rishis, the creators of the beings, did fashion, may this spoon, knowing the limbs of the porridge, heap it upon the altar!

avś_11.001.25.

शृतं॒ त्वा हव्य॒म् उ॒प सीदन्तु दैवा॒ निःसृ॒प्याग्नेः॒ पु॒नर् एनान् प्र॒ सीद ।
सो॒मेन पूतो॒ जठ॒रे सीद ब्रह्म॒णाम् आर्षेया॒स् ते मा॒ रिषन् प्राशिता॒रः ॥२५॥

śr̥táṃ tvā havyám úpa sīdantu daivā́ niḥsŕ̥pyāgnéḥ púnar enān prá sīda |
sómena pūtó jaṭháre sīda brahmáṇām ārṣeyā́s te mā́ riṣan prāśitā́raḥ ||25||

Рядом с тобою, сваренной жертвой, пусть сидят божества!
Выбравшись из огня, снова их ублаготвори!
Очищенная сомой, сиди в животе у брахмáнов,
Да не потерпят ущерба потомки риши, вкушающие тебя!

Let the dressed offering and divine Ones serve thee: creep from.
the fire again, own these as masters.
Made pure with Soma rest within the Brāhmans: let not thine
eaters, Rishis' sons, be injured.

The divine (Brāhmanas) shall sit down to thee, the cooked saerfice: do thou again descending from the fire, approach them! Clarified by soma settle in the belly of the Brāhmanas; the descendants of the Rishis who eat thee shall not take harm!

avś_11.001.26.

सो॒म राजन्त् संज्ञा॒नम् आ॒ वपैभ्यः सु॒ब्राह्मणा यतमे॒ त्वोपसी॒दान् ।
ऋ॒षीन् आर्षेयां॒स् त॒पसो॒ ऽधि जाता॒न् ब्रह्मौदने॒ सुह॒वा जोहवीमि ॥२६॥

sóma rājant saṃjñā́nam ā́ vapaibhyaḥ súbrāhmaṇā yatamé tvopasī́dān |
ŕ̥ṣīn ārṣeyā́ṃs tápasó 'dhi jātā́n brahmaudané suhávā johavīmi ||26||

О Сома-царь, расстели согласие (для них) —
Сколько прекрасных брахмáнов ни будет сидеть рядом с тобою!
Прекрасным призывом я громко зову на брахманскую кашу
Риши (и) потомков риши, рожденных от покаяния.

Give understanding unto these, King Soma! all the good Brāh
mans who attend and serve thee.
Oft, in Brahmaudana, and well I call on: Rishis, their sons, and
those who sprang from Fervour.

O king Soma, infuse harmony into the good Brāhmanas who shall sit about thee! Eagerly do I invite to the porridge the Rishis, descended from Rishis, that are born of religious fervour, and gladly obey the call.

avś_11.001.27.

शुद्धाः॒ पूता॒ योषि॒तो यज्ञि॒या इमा॒ ब्रह्म॒णां ह॒स्तेषु प्रपृथ॒क् सादयामि ।
य॒त्काम इद॒म् अभिषिञ्चा॒मि वो ऽह॒म् इ॒न्द्रो मरु॒त्वान्त् स॒ ददाद् इदं॒ मे ॥२७॥

śuddhā́ḥ pūtā́ yoṣíto yajñíyā imā́ brahmáṇāṃ hásteṣu prapr̥thák sādayāmi |
yátkāma idám abhiṣiñcā́mi vo 'hám índro marútvānt sá dadād idáṃ me ||27||

Этих чистых, очищенных, достойных жертвоприношений юниц
Я усаживаю по отдельности в руки брахмáнов.
С каким намерением я выливаю вас сейчас,
Пусть Индра с Марутами даст мне это!

Here I set singly in the hands of Brāhmans these cleansed and.
purifie d and holy Women,
May Indra, Marut girt, grant me the blessing which as I sprinkle
you, my heart desireth.

These pure and clear sacrificial women (the waters) I put into the hands of the Brāhmanas severally. With whatever wish I pour this upon you, may Indra. accompanied by the Maruts grant this to me!

avś_11.001.28.

इदं॒ मे ज्यो॒तिर् अमृ॒तं हि॒रण्यं पक्वं॒ क्षे॒त्रात् कामदु॒घा म एषा॒ ।
इदं॒ ध॒नं नि॒ दधे ब्राह्मणे॒षु कृण्वे॒ प॒न्थां पितृ॒षु यः॒ स्वर्गः॒ ॥२८॥

idáṃ me jyótir amŕ̥taṃ híraṇyaṃ pakváṃ kṣétrāt kāmadúghā ma eṣā́ |
idáṃ dhánaṃ ní dadhe brāhmaṇéṣu kr̥ṇvé pánthāṃ pitŕ̥ṣu yáḥ svargáḥ ||28||

Это мой свет, бессмертное золото,
Спелое зерно с поля, это корова, исполняющая (все) мои желания.
Это имущество я влагаю в брахмáнов,
Я создаю путь, который идет по небу к отцам.

Here is my gold, a light immortal: ripened grain from the field
this Cow of Plenty give me!
This wealth I place among the Brāhmans, making a path that
leads to heaven among the Fathers.

This gold is my immortal light, this ripe fruit of the field is my wish-granting cow. This treasure I present to the Brāhmanas: I prepare for myself a road that leads. to the Fathers in the heavens.

avś_11.001.29.

अग्नौ॒ तु॒षान् आ॒ वप जात॒वेदसि परः॒ कम्बू॒कां अ॒प मृड्ढि दूर॒म् ।
एतं॒ शुश्रुम गृहराज॒स्य भाग॒म् अ॒थो विद्म नि॒रृतेर् भागधे॒यम् ॥२९॥

agnáu túṣān ā́ vapa jātávedasi paráḥ kambū́kām̐ ápa mr̥ḍḍhi dūrám |
etáṃ śuśruma gr̥harājásya bhāgám átho vidma nírr̥ter bhāgadhéyam ||29||

В огонь бросай шелуху, в Джатаведаса,
Подальше сотри прочь отбросы (?).
Мы слышали, что это доля домашнего царя,
А также мы знаем что (это) принадлежность Гибели.

Lay thou the chaff in Agni Jātavedas: remove the husks and
drive them to a distance.
That, we have heard, that is the House-Lord's portion: we know
the share allotted to Destruction.

Scatter the spelt into Agni Gātavedas (the fire), sweep away to a far distance the chaff! This (chaff) we have heard, is the share of the ruler of the house (Agni), and we know, too, what belonos to Nirriti (destruction) as her share.

avś_11.001.30.

श्रा॒म्यतः प॒चतो विद्धि सुन्वतः॒ प॒न्थां स्वर्ग॒म् अ॒धि रोहयैनम् ।
ये॒न रो॒हात् प॒रम् आप॒द्य य॒द् व॒य उत्तमं॒ ना॒कं परमं॒ व्यो॑म ॥३०॥ {३}

śrā́myataḥ pácato viddhi sunvatáḥ pánthāṃ svargám ádhi rohayainam |
yéna róhāt páram āpádya yád váya uttamáṃ nā́kaṃ paramáṃ vyòma ||30|| {3}

Знай трудящегося на обряде, варящего, выжимающего.
Дай ему подняться на путь, идущий в небо,
По которому, достигнув (той) энергии, что высшая,
Он смог бы подняться на верхнее небо, высший небосвод.

Mark him who toils and cooks and pours oblation: make this
man climb the path that leads to heaven,
That he may mount and reach life that is highest, ascending to
the loftiest vault above us.

Note, (O porridge), him that takes pains, and cooks and presses the soma; lift him up to the heavenly road, upon which, after he has reached the fullest age, he shall ascend to the highest firmament, the supreme heavens!

avś_11.001.31.

बभ्रे॒र् अध्वर्यो मु॒खम् एत॒द् वि॒ मृड्ढ्य् आ॒ज्याय लोकं॒ कृणुहि प्रविद्वा॒न् ।
घृते॒न गा॒त्रा॒नु स॒र्वा वि॒ मृड्ढि कृण्वे॒ प॒न्थां पितृ॒षु यः॒ स्वर्गः॒ ॥३१॥

babhrér adhvaryo múkham etád ví mr̥ḍḍhy ā́jyāya lokáṃ kr̥ṇuhi pravidvā́n |
ghr̥téna gā́trā́nu sárvā ví mr̥ḍḍhi kr̥ṇvé pánthāṃ pitŕ̥ṣu yáḥ svargáḥ ||31||

Вытри, адхварью, этот рот у кормящего,
Умело освободи место для расплавленного масла.
Жиром смажь все части тела.
Я создаю себе путь к отцам, который движется по небу.

Adhvaryu, cleanse that face of the Supporter. Make room, well
knowing, for the molten butter.
Purify duly all the limbs with fatness. I make a path to heaven
amid the Fathers.

Anoint (with ghee), O adhvaryu (priest), the surface of this sustaining (porridge), make skilfully a place for the melted butter; with ghee do thou anoint all its limbs! I prepare for myself a road that leads to the Fathers in the heavens.

avś_11.001.32.

ब॒भ्रे र॒क्षः सम॒दम् आ॒ वपैभ्यो॒ ऽब्राह्मणा यतमे॒ त्वोपसी॒दान् ।
पुरीषि॒णः प्र॒थमानाः पुर॒स्ताद् आर्षेया॒स् ते मा॒ रिषन् प्राशिता॒रः ॥३२॥

bábhre rákṣaḥ samádam ā́ vapaibhyó 'brāhmaṇā yatamé tvopasī́dān |
purīṣíṇaḥ práthamānāḥ purástād ārṣeyā́s te mā́ riṣan prāśitā́raḥ ||32||

О кормящий, (как) ракшас посей раздоры среди тех,
Кто, не будучи брахмáнами, сидит около тебя.
Полные богатства, распространяющиеся вперед потомки риши
Да не потерпят вреда от тебя (эти) вкусители.

Supporter, send to those men fiends and battle, to all non-Brah-
mans who attend and serve thee.
Famous and foremost, with their great possessions, let not these
here, the Rishis sons, be injured.

O sustaining (porridge), cast destruction and strife among such as are sitting about thee, and are not Brāhmanas! (But) the descendants of the -Rishis, that eat thee, being full of substance, spreading forth, shall not take harm!

avś_11.001.33.

आर्षेये॒षु नि॒ दध ओदन त्वा ना॒नार्षेयाणाम् अ॒प्य् अस्त्य् अ॒त्र ।
अग्नि॒र् मे गोप्ता॒ मरु॒तश् च स॒र्वे वि॒श्वे देवा॒ अभि॒ रक्षन्तु पक्व॒म् ॥३३॥

ārṣeyéṣu ní dadha odana tvā nā́nārṣeyāṇām ápy asty átra |
agnír me goptā́ marútaś ca sárve víśve devā́ abhí rakṣantu pakvám ||33||

Я раскладываю тебя, каша, среди потомков риши,
Но нет тебя здесь для непотомков риши.
Пусть Агни, мой хранитель, и все Маруты,
Пусть все боги защитят сваренную (жертву)!

I set thee, Odana, with Rishis' children: naught here belongs to
men not sprung from Rishis.
Let Agni my protector, all the Maruts, the Visve Devas guard
the cooked oblation.

To the descendants of the Rishis I make thee over, O porridge; those who are not descended from Rishis have no share in it! May Agni as my guardian, may all the Maruts, and all the gods watch over the cooked food!

avś_11.001.34.

यज्ञं॒ दु॒हानं स॒दम् इ॒त् प्र॒पीनं पु॒मांसं धेनुं॒ स॒दनं रयीणा॒म् ।
प्रजामृतत्व॒म् उत॒ दीर्घ॒म् आ॒यू राय॒श् च पो॒षैर् उ॒प त्वा सदेम ॥३४॥

yajñáṃ dúhānaṃ sádam ít prápīnaṃ púmāṃsaṃ dhenúṃ sádanaṃ rayīṇā́m |
prajāmr̥tatvám utá dīrghám ā́yū rāyáś ca póṣair úpa tvā sadema ||34||

Пусть сядем мы возле тебя с процветанием богатства,
Возле доящейся жертвы, всегда набухшей,
Дойной коровы мужеского пола, местопребывания богатств,
Бессмертия благодаря потомству, долголетия!

May we adore thee, Sacrifice that yieldeth an everlasting son,
cow, home of treasures,
Together with increasing store of riches, long life and immor-
tality of children.

Thee (the porridge) that milkest the sacrifice, art evermore abundant, the male milch-cow, the seat of wealth, we beseech for immortality of off-spring and long life with abundance of wealth.

avś_11.001.35.

वृषभो॑ ऽसि स्वर्ग॒ ऋ॒षीन् आर्षेया॒न् गछ ।
सुकृ॒तां लोके॒ सीद त॒त्र नौ संस्कृत॒म् ॥३५॥

vr̥ṣabhò 'si svargá ŕ̥ṣīn ārṣeyā́n gacha |
sukŕ̥tāṃ loké sīda tátra nau saṃskr̥tám ||35||

Ты — бык, движущийся по небу.
Отправляйся к риши и потомкам риши.
Сиди в мире благих деяний.
Там для нас двоих (все) приготовлено.

Thou art a Bull that mounts to heaven: to Rishis and their off-
spring go.
Rest in the world of pious men: there is the place prepared for
us.

Thou art a lusty male, penetratest heaven: go thou to the Rishis, descended from Rishis! Dwell in the world of the pious: there is a well-prepared (place) for us two!

avś_11.001.36.

समा॒चिनुष्वानुसंप्र॒याह्य् अ॒ग्ने पथः॒ कल्पय देवया॒नान् ।
एतैः॒ सुकृतै॒र् अ॒नु गछेम यज्ञं॒ ना॒के ति॒ष्ठन्तम् अ॒धि सप्त॒रश्मौ ॥३६॥

samā́cinuṣvānusaṃpráyāhy ágne patháḥ kalpaya devayā́nān |
etáiḥ sukr̥táir ánu gachema yajñáṃ nā́ke tíṣṭhantam ádhi saptáraśmau ||36||

Соберись, отправляйся следом!
О Агни, приведи в порядок пути, исхоженные богами!
По ним, хорошо подготовленным, пусть пройдем мы за жертвой,
Находящейся на небосводе с семью лучами.

Level the ways: go thitherward, O Agni. Make ready thou the
Godward-leading pathways.
By these our pious actions may we follow sacrifice dwelling in
the seven-rayed heaven.

Pack thyself up, go forth! O Agni, prepare the roads, that lead to the gods! By these: well-prepared (roads) may we reach the sacrifice, standing upon the firmament (that shines) with seven rays!

avś_11.001.37.

ये॒न देवा॒ ज्यो॒तिषा द्या॒म् उदा॒यन् ब्रह्मौदनं॒ पक्त्वा॒ सुकृत॒स्य लोक॒म् ।
ते॒न गेष्म सुकृत॒स्य लोकं॒ स्व॑र् आरो॒हन्तो अभि॒ ना॒कम् उत्तम॒म् ॥३७॥ {४}

yéna devā́ jyótiṣā dyā́m udā́yan brahmaudanáṃ paktvā́ sukr̥tásya lokám |
téna geṣma sukr̥tásya lokáṃ svàr āróhanto abhí nā́kam uttamám ||37|| {4}

С каким светом боги поднялись на небо,
Сварив брахманскую рисовую кашу, в мир благого деяния,
С ним мы хотим отправиться в мир благого деяния,
Взбираясь на небо, на высший небосвод.

May we invested with that light go upward, ascending to the
sky's most lofty summit.
Wherewith the Gods, what time they had made ready
Brahmaudana, mounted to the world of virtue.

With the light with which the gods, having cooked the porridge for the Brāmanas, ascended to heaven, to the world of the pious, with that would we go to the world of the pious, ascending to the light, to the highest firmament!
