प्राणा॒य न॒मो य॒स्य स॒र्वम् इदं॒ व॒शे ।
यो॒ भूतः॒ स॒र्वस्येश्वरो॒ य॒स्मिन्त् स॒र्वं प्र॒तिष्ठितम् ॥१॥

prāṇā́ya námo yásya sárvam idáṃ váśe |
yó bhūtáḥ sárvasyeśvaró yásmint sárvaṃ prátiṣṭhitam ||1||

Поклон дыханию,
Во власти которого весь этот (мир),
Которое было повелителем всего,
В котором покоится все.

Homage to Prāna, him who hath dominion o'er the universe,
Who hath become the Sovran Lord of all, on whom the whole
depends!

Reverence to Prāna, to whom all this (universe) is subject, who has become the lord of the all, on whom the all is supported!

avś_11.004.02.

न॒मस् ते प्राण क्र॒न्दाय न॒मस् ते स्तनयित्न॒वे ।
न॒मस् ते प्राण विद्यु॒ते न॒मस् ते प्राण व॒र्षते ॥२॥

námas te prāṇa krándāya námas te stanayitnáve |
námas te prāṇa vidyúte námas te prāṇa várṣate ||2||

Homage, O Prāna, to thy roar, to thunder-peal and lightning

Reverence, O Prāna, to thy roaring (wind), reverence, O Prāna, to thy thunder, reverence, O Prāna, to thy lightning, reverence, O Prāna, to thy rain!

avś_11.004.03.

य॒त् प्राण॒ स्तनयित्नु॒नाभिक्र॒न्दत्य् ओ॒षधीः ।
प्र॒ वीयन्ते ग॒र्भान् दधते॒ ऽथो बह्वी॒र् वि॒ जायन्ते ॥३॥

yát prāṇá stanayitnúnābhikrándaty óṣadhīḥ |
prá vīyante gárbhān dadhaté 'tho bahvī́r ví jāyante ||3||

Когда дыхание громовым ревом
Встречает растения,
Они оплодотворяются, получают зародышей —
Тогда их нарождается много.

When Prāna with a thunderous voice shouts his loud message
to the plants,
They straightway are impregnate, they conceive, and bear
abundantly.

When Prāna calls aloud to the plants with his thunder, they are fecundated, they conceive, and then are produced abundant (plants).

avś_11.004.04.

य॒त् प्राण॒ ऋता॒व् आ॒गते ऽभिक्र॒न्दत्य् ओ॒षधीः ।
स॒र्वं तदा॒ प्र॒ मोदते य॒त् किं॒ च भू॒म्याम् अ॒धि ॥४॥

yát prāṇá r̥tā́v ā́gate 'bhikrándaty óṣadhīḥ |
sárvaṃ tadā́ prá modate yát kíṃ ca bhū́myām ádhi ||4||

Когда наступила пора
(И) дыхание ревом встречает растения,
Всё тогда ликует,
Что только ни на есть на земле.

When the due season hath arrived and Prāna shouteth to herbs,
Then all is joyful, yea, each thing upon the surface of the earth.

When the season has arrived, and Prāna calls aloud to the plants, then everything rejoices, whatsoever is upon the earth.

avś_11.004.05.

यदा॒ प्राणो॒ अभ्य॒वर्षीद् वर्षे॒ण पृथिवीं॒ मही॒म् ।
पश॒वस् त॒त् प्र॒ मोदन्ते म॒हो वै॒ नो भविष्यति ॥५॥

yadā́ prāṇó abhyávarṣīd varṣéṇa pr̥thivī́ṃ mahī́m |
paśávas tát prá modante máho vái no bhaviṣyati ||5||

Когда дыхание залило
Дождем великую землю,
Животные ликуют от этого:
«Ведь будет нам могущество!».

When Prāna hath poured down his flood of rain upon the
mighty land.
Cattle and beasts rejoice thereat: Now great will he our
strength, they cry.

When Prāna has watered the great earth with rain, then the beasts rejoice; (they think): 'strength, forsooth, we shall now obtain.'

avś_11.004.06.

अभि॒वृष्टा ओ॒षधयः प्राणे॒न स॒म् अवादिरन् ।
आ॒युर् वै॒ नः प्रा॒तीतरः स॒र्वा नः सुरभी॒र् अकः ॥६॥

abhívr̥ṣṭā óṣadhayaḥ prāṇéna sám avādiran |
ā́yur vái naḥ prā́tītaraḥ sárvā naḥ surabhī́r akaḥ ||6||

Залитые дождем растения
Заговорили с дыханием:
«Ты, в самом деле, продлило нам срок жизни,
Сделало нас всех благоуханными!».

Watered by Prāna's rain the plants have raised their voices in
accord:
Thou hast prolonged our life, they say, and given fragrance to us
all.

When they had been watered by Prāna, the plants spake in concert: 'thou hast, forsooth, prolonged our life, thou hast made us all fragrant.'

avś_11.004.07.

न॒मस् ते अस्त्व् आयते॒ न॒मो अस्तु परायते॒ ।
न॒मस् ते प्राण ति॒ष्ठत आ॒सीनायोत॒ ते न॒मः ॥७॥

námas te astv āyaté námo astu parāyaté |
námas te prāṇa tíṣṭhata ā́sīnāyotá te námaḥ ||7||

Да будет поклон тебе приходящему,
Да будет поклон (и) уходящему!
Поклон тебе стоя́щему, о дыхание,
Сидящему тебе поклон!

Homage to thee when coming nigh, homage to thee departing
hence!
Homage, O Prāna, be to thee when standing and when sitting
still.

Reverence be, O Prāna, to thee coming, reverence to thee going; 'reverence to thee standing, and reverence, too, to thee sitting!

avś_11.004.08.

न॒मस् ते प्राण प्राणते॒ न॒मो अस्त्व् अपानते॒ ।
पराची॒नाय ते न॒मः प्रतीची॒नाय ते न॒मः स॒र्वस्मै त इदं॒ न॒मः ॥८॥

námas te prāṇa prāṇaté námo astv apānaté |
parācī́nāya te námaḥ pratīcī́nāya te námaḥ sárvasmai ta idáṃ námaḥ ||8||

Поклон тебе вдыхающему, о дыхание,
Да будет поклон (тебе) выдыхающему!
Поклон тебе отвернувшемуся,
Поклон тебе повернувшемуся (к нам) —
Всякому тебе здесь поклон!

Homage to thee at every breath thou drawest in and sendest
forth!
Homage to thee when turned away, homage to thee seen face to
face! This reverence be to all of thee!

Reverence be to thee, O Prāna, when thou breatbest in (primate), reverence when thou breathest out! Reverence be to thee when thou art turned away, reverence to thee when thou art turned hither: to thee, entire, reverence be here!

avś_11.004.09.

या॒ ते प्राण प्रिया॒ तनू॒र् यो॒ ते प्राण प्रे॒यसी ।
अ॒थो य॒द् भेषजं॒ त॒व त॒स्य नो धेहि जीव॒से ॥९॥

yā́ te prāṇa priyā́ tanū́r yó te prāṇa préyasī |
átho yád bheṣajáṃ táva tásya no dhehi jīváse ||9||

(То) милое тело, что твое, о дыхание,
(И то), что у тебя, о дыхание, еще милее,
А также какое лекарство у тебя, —
Дай нам этого, чтобы (мы жили)!

Prāna, communicate to us thy dear, thy very dearest form.
Whatever healing balm thou hast, give us thereof that we may
live.

Of thy dear form, O Prāna, of thy very dear form, of the healing power that is thine, give unto us, that we may live!

avś_11.004.10.

प्राणः॒ प्रजा॒ अ॒नु वस्ते पिता॒ पुत्र॒म् इव प्रिय॒म् ।
प्राणो॒ ह स॒र्वस्येश्वरो॒ य॒च् च प्राण॒ति य॒च् च न॒ ॥१०॥ {११}

prāṇáḥ prajā́ ánu vaste pitā́ putrám iva priyám |
prāṇó ha sárvasyeśvaró yác ca prāṇáti yác ca ná ||10|| {11}

Дыхание одевает людей,
Как отец любимого сына.
Ведь дыхание — повелитель всего:
И что дышит, и что нет.

Prāna robes living creatures as a father his beloved son. Prāna
is sovran Lord of all, of all that breathes not, all that
breathes

Prāna clothes the creatures, as a father his dear son. Prāna, truly, is the lord of all, of all that breathes, and does not breathe.

avś_11.004.11.

प्राणो॒ मृत्युः॒ प्राण॒स् तक्मा॒ प्राणं॒ देवा॒ उ॒पासते ।
प्राणो॒ ह सत्यवादि॒नम् उत्तमे॒ लोक॒ आ॒ दधत् ॥११॥

prāṇó mr̥tyúḥ prāṇás takmā́ prāṇáṃ devā́ úpāsate |
prāṇó ha satyavādínam uttamé loká ā́ dadhat ||11||

Prāna is Fever, he is Death. Prāna is worshipped by the Gods.
Prāna sets in the loftiest sphere the man who speaks the words
of truth.

Prāna is death, Prāna is fever. The gods worship Prana. Prāna shall place the truth-speaker in the highest world

avś_11.004.12.

प्राणो॒ विरा॒ट् प्राणो॒ दे॒ष्ट्री प्राणं॒ स॒र्व उ॒पासते ।
प्राणो॒ ह सू॒र्यश् चन्द्र॒माः प्राण॒म् आहुः प्रजा॒पतिम् ॥१२॥

prāṇó virā́ṭ prāṇó déṣṭrī prāṇáṃ sárva úpāsate |
prāṇó ha sū́ryaś candrámāḥ prāṇám āhuḥ prajā́patim ||12||

Дыхание — Вирадж, дыхание — Указующая (богиня),
Все почитают дыхание.
Дыхание — солнце (и) луна.
Дыхание называют Праджапати.

Prāna is Deshtri, and Virāj Prāna is reverenced by all. He is the
Sun, he is the Moon. Prāna is called Prajāpati.

Prāna is Virāg (power, lustre), Prāna is Deshtrī (the divinity that guides): all worship Prāna. Prāna verily is sun and moon. They call Prāna Pragāpati.

avś_11.004.13.

प्राणापानौ॒ व्रीहियवा॒व् अनड्वा॒न् प्राण॒ उच्यते ।
य॒वे ह प्राण॒ आ॒हितो ऽपानो॒ व्रीहि॒र् उच्यते ॥१३॥

prāṇāpānáu vrīhiyavā́v anaḍvā́n prāṇá ucyate |
yáve ha prāṇá ā́hito 'pānó vrīhír ucyate ||13||

Вдох-и-выдох — (это) рис-и-ячмень.
Дыхание называется тягловым быком.
Вдох заключен в ячмене.
Выдох называется рисом.

Both breaths are rice and barley, and Prāna is called the toiling
ox:
In barley is the inbreath laid, and rice is named the outward
breath.

Rice and barley are in-breathing and outbreathing. Prāna is called a steer. In-breathing forsooth, is founded upon barley; rice is called out-breathing.

avś_11.004.14.

अ॒पानति प्रा॒णति पु॒रुषो ग॒र्भे अन्तरा॒ ।
यदा॒ त्वं॒ प्राण जि॒न्वस्य् अ॒थ स॒ जायते पु॒नः ॥१४॥

ápānati prā́ṇati púruṣo gárbhe antarā́ |
yadā́ tváṃ prāṇa jínvasy átha sá jāyate púnaḥ ||14||

Человек в утробе
Выдыхает (и) вдыхает.
Когда ты, дыхание, оживляешь (его),
Тогда он рождается снова.

The human infant in the womb draws vital breath and sends it
Lout:
When thou, O Prāna, quickenest the babe it springs anew to
life.

Man breathes out and breathes in when within the womb. When thou, O Prāna, quickenest him, then is he born again.

avś_11.004.15.

प्राण॒म् आहुर् मातरि॒श्वानं वा॒तो ह प्राण॒ उच्यते ।
प्राणे॒ ह भूतं॒ भ॒व्यं च प्राणे॒ स॒र्वं प्र॒तिष्ठितम् ॥१५॥

prāṇám āhur mātaríśvānaṃ vā́to ha prāṇá ucyate |
prāṇé ha bhūtáṃ bhávyaṃ ca prāṇé sárvaṃ prátiṣṭhitam ||15||

Дыхание называют Матаришваном,
Дыхание зовется также Ватой.
В самом деле, в дыхании то, что было, и то, что будет.
В дыхании все заключено.

The name of Prāna is bestowed on Mātarisvan and on Wind.
On Prāna, past and future, yea, on Prāna everything depends.

They call Prāna Mātarisvan (the wind); Prāna, forsooth, is called Vāta (the wind). The past and the future, the all, verily is supported upon Prāna.

avś_11.004.16.

आथर्वणी॒र् आङ्गिरसी॒र् दै॒वीर् मनुष्यजा॒ उत॒ ।
ओ॒षधयः प्र॒ जायन्ते यदा॒ त्वं॒ प्राण जि॒न्वसि ॥१६॥

ātharvaṇī́r āṅgirasī́r dáivīr manuṣyajā́ utá |
óṣadhayaḥ prá jāyante yadā́ tváṃ prāṇa jínvasi ||16||

Происходящие от Атхарванов, происходящие от Ангирасов,
А также порожденные людьми
Растения возникают,
Когда ты, о дыхание, оживляешь (их).

All herbs and plants spring forth and grow when thou, O Prāna
quickenest,
Plants of Atharvan, Angiras, plants of the deities and men.

The holy (ātharvana) plants, the magic (āngirasa) plants, the divine plants, and those produced by men, spring forth, when thou, O Prāna, quickenest them.

avś_11.004.17.

यदा॒ प्राणो॒ अभ्य॒वर्षीद् वर्षे॒ण पृथिवीं॒ मही॒म् ।
ओ॒षधयः प्र॒ जायन्ते॒ ऽथो याः॒ का॒श् च वीरु॒धः ॥१७॥

yadā́ prāṇó abhyávarṣīd varṣéṇa pr̥thivī́ṃ mahī́m |
óṣadhayaḥ prá jāyanté 'tho yā́ḥ kā́ś ca vīrúdhaḥ ||17||

Когда дыхание залило
Дождем великую землю,
Рождаются травы,
А также любые растения.

When Prāna hath poured down his flood of rain upon the
mighty earth,
The plants are wakened into life, and every herd that grows on
ground.

When Prāna has watered the great earth with rain, then the plants spring forth, and also every sort of herb.

avś_11.004.18.

य॒स् ते प्राणेदं॒ वे॒द य॒स्मिंश् चासि प्र॒तिष्ठितः ।
स॒र्वे त॒स्मै बलिं॒ हरान् अमु॒ष्मिंल् लोक॒ उत्तमे॒ ॥१८॥

yás te prāṇedáṃ véda yásmiṃś cāsi prátiṣṭhitaḥ |
sárve tásmai balíṃ harān amúṣmiṃl loká uttamé ||18||

Кто знает это о тебе, о дыхание,
И в ком ты заключено —
Все ему должны платить дань
В том высшем мире.

The man who knows this truth of thee, O Prāna, and what bears
thee up
To him will all present their gift of tribute in that loftiest will
all present their gift of tribute in that loftiest world.

Whoever, O Prāna, knows this regarding thee, and (knows) on what thou art supported, to him all shall offer tribute in yonder highest world.

avś_11.004.19.

य॒था प्राण बलिहृ॒तस् तु॒भ्यं स॒र्वाः प्रजा॒ इमाः॒ ।
एवा॒ त॒स्मै बलिं॒ हरान् य॒स् त्वा शृण॒वत् सुश्रवः ॥१९॥

yáthā prāṇa balihŕ̥tas túbhyaṃ sárvāḥ prajā́ imā́ḥ |
evā́ tásmai balíṃ harān yás tvā śr̥ṇávat suśravaḥ ||19||

Подобно тому как все эти существа —
Плательщики дани тебе, о дыхание,
Так пусть платят дань тому,
Кто услышит тебя, о (ты), охотно слушающее!

As all these living creatures are thy tributaries, Prāna, so
Shall they bring tribute unto him who hears thee with attentive
ears.

As all these creatures, O Prāna, offer thee tribute, so they shall offer tribute (in yonder world) to him who hears thee, O far-famed one!

avś_11.004.20.

अन्त॒र् ग॒र्भश् चरति देव॒तास्व् आ॒भूतो भूतः॒ स॒ उ जायते पु॒नः ।
स॒ भूतो॒ भ॒व्यं भविष्य॒त् पिता॒ पुत्रं॒ प्र॒ विवेशा श॒चीभिः ॥२०॥ {१२}

antár gárbhaś carati devátāsv ā́bhūto bhūtáḥ sá u jāyate púnaḥ |
sá bhūtó bhávyaṃ bhaviṣyát pitā́ putráṃ prá viveśā śácībhiḥ ||20|| {12}

Оно движется как зародыш среди божеств.
Возникнув (там), побывав, оно рождается снова.
Побывав (там), оно вошло со (своими) силами
В то, что было и что будет, как отец — в сына.

Filled with a babe, mid deities he wanders: grown; near at hand,
he springs again to being.
That Father, grown the present and the future, hath past into
the son with mighty powers.

He moves as an embryo within the gods; having arrived, and being in existence, he is born again. Having arisen he enters with his mights the present and the future, as a father (goes to) his son.

avś_11.004.21.

ए॒कं पा॒दं नो॒त् खिदति सलिला॒द् धंस॒ उच्च॒रन् ।
य॒द् अङ्ग॒ स॒ त॒म् उत्खिदे॒न् नै॒वा॒द्य॒ न॒ श्वः॒ स्यात् ।
न॒ रा॒त्री ना॒हः स्यान् न॒ व्य् उ॑छेत् कदा॒ चन॒ ॥२१॥

ékaṃ pā́daṃ nót khidati salilā́d dhaṃsá uccáran |
yád aṅgá sá tám utkhidén náivā́dyá ná śváḥ syāt |
ná rā́trī nā́haḥ syān ná vy ùchet kadā́ caná ||21||

Не вытаскивает одну ногу
Из воды лебедь, когда поднимается.
Если бы только он ее вытащил,
Не было бы ни сегодня, ни завтра
Ни ночи, ни дня не было бы, (и) никогда не рассвело бы.

Hansa, what time he rises up, leaves in the flood one foot un-
moved.
If he withdrew it there would be no more tomorrow or to-day,
Never would there be night, no more would daylight shine or
morning flush.

When as a swan he rises from the water he does not withdraw his one foot. If in truth he were to withdraw it, there would be neither to-day, nor to-morrow, no night and no day, never would the dawn appear.

avś_11.004.22.

अष्टा॒चक्रं वर्तत ए॒कनेमि सह॒स्राक्षरं प्र॒ पुरो॒ नि॒ पश्चा॒ ।
अर्धे॒न वि॒श्वं भु॒वनं जजा॒न य॒द् अस्यार्धं॒ कतमः॒ स॒ केतुः॒ ॥२२॥

aṣṭā́cakraṃ vartata ékanemi sahásrākṣaraṃ prá puró ní paścā́ |
ardhéna víśvaṃ bhúvanaṃ jajā́na yád asyārdháṃ katamáḥ sá ketúḥ ||22||

Вертится восьмиколесное с одним ободом,
С тысячей слогов: вперед — спереди, вниз — сзади.
Половиной оно породило все мироздание.
(А) что (у него за другая) половина — какой это признак?

It rolleth on, eight-wheeled and single-fellied, and with a thousand
eyes, forward and backward.
With one half it engendered all creation. What sign is there to
tell us of the other?

With eight wheels, and one felloe he moves, containing a thousand sounds (elements), upward in the east, downward in the west. With (his) half he produced the whole world: what is the visible sign of his (other) half?

avś_11.004.23.

यो॒ अस्य॒ विश्व॒जन्मन ई॒शे वि॒श्वस्य चे॒ष्टतः ।
अ॒न्येषु क्षिप्र॒धन्वने त॒स्मै प्राण न॒मो ऽस्तु ते ॥२३॥

yó asyá viśvájanmana ī́śe víśvasya céṣṭataḥ |
ányeṣu kṣiprádhanvane tásmai prāṇa námo 'stu te ||23||

Кто повелевает этим рождающимся везде,
Шевелящимся везде —
Тебе такому, о дыхание, с быстрым луком
Среди неиссякающих да будет поклон!

Homage, O Prāna unto thee armed with swift bow among the
rest,
In whose dominion is this All of varied sort that stirs and
works!

He who rules over this (all) derived from every source, and over everything that movesreverence be to thee, O Prāna, that wieldest a swift bow against others (the enemies)!

avś_11.004.24.

यो॒ अस्य॒ सर्व॒जन्मन ई॒शे स॒र्वस्य चे॒ष्टतः ।
अ॒तन्द्रो ब्र॒ह्मणा धी॒रः प्राणो॒ मा॒नु तिष्ठतु ॥२४॥

yó asyá sarvájanmana ī́śe sárvasya céṣṭataḥ |
átandro bráhmaṇā dhī́raḥ prāṇó mā́nu tiṣṭhatu ||24||

(То), что повелевает этим всячески рождающимся,
Шевелящимся везде,
Неутомимое, мудрое благодаря брáхману,
Дыхание пусть последует за мной!

May he who rules this Universe of varied sort, that stirs and
works,
Prāna, alert and resolute, assist me through the prayer I pray.

May Prāna, who rules over this (all) derived from every source, and over everything that moves, (may he) unwearied, strong through the brahma, adhere to me!

avś_11.004.25.

ऊर्ध्वः॒ सुप्ते॒षु जागार ननु॒ तिर्य॒ङ् नि॒ पद्यते ।
न॒ सुप्त॒म् अस्य सुप्ते॒ष्व् अ॒नु शुश्राव क॒श् चन॒ ॥२५॥

ūrdhváḥ suptéṣu jāgāra nanú tiryáṅ ní padyate |
ná suptám asya suptéṣv ánu śuśrāva káś caná ||25||

Устремленное вверх, оно бодрствует среди спящих,
Оно не падает плашмя.
Никто не слышит,
Чтобы оно спало среди спящих.

Erect among the sleepers he wakes, and is never laid at length,
No one hath ever heard that he hath been asleep while others
slept.

Erect he watches in those that sleep, nor does lie lie down across. No one has heard of his sleeping in those that sleep.

avś_11.004.26.

प्रा॒ण मा॒ म॒त् पर्या॒वृतो न॒ म॒द् अन्यो॒ भविष्यसि ।
अपां॒ ग॒र्भम् इव जीव॒से प्रा॒ण बध्ना॒मि त्वा म॒यि ॥२६॥ {१३}

prā́ṇa mā́ mát paryā́vr̥to ná mád anyó bhaviṣyasi |
apā́ṃ gárbham iva jīváse prā́ṇa badhnā́mi tvā máyi ||26|| {13}

О дыхание, не отворачивайся от меня!
Ты не будешь другим, чем я.
Как зародыш вод, ради жизни,
О дыхание, я привязываю тебя к себе.

Thou, Prāna, never shalt be hid, never shalt be estranged from
me.
I bind thee on myself for life, O Prāna, like the Waters' germ.

O Prāna, be not turned away from me, thou shalt not be other than myself! As the embryo of the waters (fire), thee, O Prāna, do bind to me, that I may live.
