avś_12.001.01.

सत्यं॒ बृह॒द् ऋत॒म् उग्रं॒ दीक्षा॒ त॒पो ब्र॒ह्म यज्ञः॒ पृथिवीं॒ धारयन्ति ।
सा॒ नो भूत॒स्य भ॒व्यस्य प॒त्न्य् उरुं॒ लोकं॒ पृथिवी॒ नः कृणोतु ॥१॥

satyáṃ br̥hád r̥tám ugráṃ dīkṣā́ tápo bráhma yajñáḥ pr̥thivī́ṃ dhārayanti |
sā́ no bhūtásya bhávyasya pátny urúṃ lokáṃ pr̥thivī́ naḥ kr̥ṇotu ||1||

Высокая истина, грозный (космический) закон, посвящение, покаяние,
Брáхман, жертва поддерживают Землю.
(Пусть) она, наша повелительница (того), что было (и) что будет,
Пусть Земля создаст нам широкий простор,

Truth, high and potent Law, the Consecrating Rite, Fervour,
Brahma, and Sacrifice uphold the Earth.
May she, the Queen of all that is and is to be, may Prithivī
make ample space and room for us.

Truth, greatness, universal order (rita), strength. consecration, creative fervour (tapas), spiritual exaltation (brahma), the sacrifice, support the earth. May this earth, the mistress of that which was and shall be, prepare for us a broad domain!

avś_12.001.02.

असंबाधं॒ मध्यतो॒ मानवा॒नां य॒स्या उद्व॒तः प्रव॒तः समं॒ बहु॒ ।
ना॒नावीर्या ओ॒षधीर् या॒ बि॒भर्ति पृथिवी॒ नः प्रथतां रा॒ध्यतां नः ॥२॥

asaṃbādháṃ madhyató mānavā́nāṃ yásyā udvátaḥ pravátaḥ samáṃ bahú |
nā́nāvīryā óṣadhīr yā́ bíbharti pr̥thivī́ naḥ prathatāṃ rā́dhyatāṃ naḥ ||2||

Незажатость среди людей.
Кому принадлежат подъемы (и) склоны, большая равнина,
(Кто) несет (на себе) травы разного достоинства —
Пусть (эта) Земля распространится для нас, принесет нам успех!

Not over awded by the crowd of Manu's sons, she who hath
many heights and floods and level plains;
She who bears plants endowed with many varied powers, may
Prithivī for us spread wide and favour us.

The earth that has heights, and slopes, and great plains, that supports the plants of manifold virtue, free from the pressure that comes from the midst of men, she shall spread out for us, and fit. herself for us!

avś_12.001.03.

य॒स्यां समुद्र॒ उत॒ सि॒न्धुर् आ॒पो य॒स्याम् अ॒न्नं कृष्ट॒यः संबभूवुः॒ ।
य॒स्याम् इदं॒ जि॒न्वति प्राण॒द् ए॒जत् सा॒ नो भू॒मिः पूर्वपे॒ये दधातु ॥३॥

yásyāṃ samudrá utá síndhur ā́po yásyām ánnaṃ kr̥ṣṭáyaḥ saṃbabhūvúḥ |
yásyām idáṃ jínvati prāṇád éjat sā́ no bhū́miḥ pūrvapéye dadhātu ||3||

На ком (находятся) океан и река, вóды,
На ком возникли пища (и) пашни,
На ком оживает то, что дышит (и) шевелится, —
Пусть эта Земля даст нам право пить первыми!

In whom the sea, and Sindhu, and the waters, in whom our food
and corn-lands had their being,
In whom this all that breathes and moves is active, this Earth.
assign us foremost rank and station!

The earth upon which the sea, and the rivers and the waters, upon which food and the tribes of men have arisen, upon which this breathing, moving life exists, shall afford us precedence in drinking!

avś_12.001.04.

य॒स्याश् च॒तस्रः प्रदि॒शः पृथिव्या॒ य॒स्याम् अ॒न्नम् कृष्ट॒यः संबभूवुः॒ ।
या॒ बि॒भर्ति बहुधा॒ प्राण॒द् ए॒जत् सा॒ नो भू॒मिर् गो॒ष्व् अ॒प्य् अ॒न्ने दधातु ॥४॥

yásyāś cátasraḥ pradíśaḥ pr̥thivyā́ yásyām ánnam kr̥ṣṭáyaḥ saṃbabhūvúḥ |
yā́ bíbharti bahudhā́ prāṇád éjat sā́ no bhū́mir góṣv ápy ánne dadhātu ||4||

Какой Земле принадлежат четыре стороны света,
На ком возникли пища (и) пашни,
Кто несет (на себе) множество того, что дышит (и) шевелится, —
Пусть эта Земля поместит нас среди коров и пищи!

She who is Lady of the earth's four regions, in whom our food
and corn-lands had their being,
Nurse in each place of breathing, moving creatures, this Earth.
vouchsafe us kine with milk that fails not!

The earth whose are the four regions of space, upon which food and the tribes of men have arisen, which supports the manifold breathing, moving thinas, shall afford us cattle and other possessions also!

avś_12.001.05.

य॒स्यां पू॒र्वे पूर्वजना॒ विचक्रिरे॒ य॒स्यां देवा॒ अ॒सुरान् अभ्य॒वर्तयन् ।
ग॒वाम् अ॒श्वानां व॒यसश् च विष्ठा॒ भ॒गं व॒र्चः पृथिवी॒ नो दधातु ॥५॥

yásyāṃ pū́rve pūrvajanā́ vicakriré yásyāṃ devā́ ásurān abhyávartayan |
gávām áśvānāṃ váyasaś ca viṣṭhā́ bhágaṃ várcaḥ pr̥thivī́ no dadhātu ||5||

На ком прежде расселялись прежние люди,
На ком боги победили асуров,
Место для коров, коней, птиц —
Пусть Земля дарует нам удачу, блеск!

On whom the men of old before us battled, on whom the Gods
attacked the hostile demons,
The varied home of bird, and kine and horses, this Prithivī
vouchsafe us luck and splendour!

The earth upon which of old the first men unfolded themselves, upon which the gods overcame the Asuras, shall procure for us (all) kinds of cattle, horses, and fowls, good fortune, and glory!

avś_12.001.06.

विश्वंभरा॒ वसुधा॒नी प्रतिष्ठा॒ हि॒रण्यवक्षा ज॒गतो निवे॒शनी ।
वैश्वानरं॒ बि॒भ्रती भू॒मिर् अग्नि॒म् इ॒न्द्रऋषभा द्र॒विणे नो दधातु ॥६॥

viśvaṃbharā́ vasudhā́nī pratiṣṭhā́ híraṇyavakṣā jágato nivéśanī |
vaiśvānaráṃ bíbhratī bhū́mir agním índrar̥ṣabhā dráviṇe no dadhātu ||6||

Все несущая (на себе), охраняющая добро, твердо стоящая,
Златогрудая, успокаивающая мир живых,
Несущая Агни Вайшванару Земля,
Чей бык — Индра, пусть наградит нас имуществом!

Firm standing-place, all-bearing, store of treasures, gold-breasted,
harbourer of all that moveth.
May Earth who bears Agni Vaisvānara, Consort of mighty
Indra, give us great possessions

The earth that supports all, furnishes wealth, the foundation, the golden-breasted resting-place of all living creatures, she that supports Agni Vaisvānara (the fire), and mates with Indra, the bull, shall furnish us with property!

avś_12.001.07.

यां॒ र॒क्षन्त्य् अस्वप्ना॒ विश्वदा॒नीं देवा॒ भू॒मिं पृथिवी॒म् अ॒प्रमादम् ।
सा॒ नो म॒धु प्रियं॒ दुहाम् अ॒थो उक्षतु व॒र्चसा ॥७॥

yā́ṃ rákṣanty asvapnā́ viśvadā́nīṃ devā́ bhū́miṃ pr̥thivī́m ápramādam |
sā́ no mádhu priyáṃ duhām átho ukṣatu várcasā ||7||

Земля, которую неизменно внимательно
Защищают бессонные боги,
Пусть она надоит для нас приятного меду,
А также пусть окропит блеском!

May Earth, may Prithivī, always protected with ceaseless care by
Gods who never slumber,
May she pour out for us delicious nectar, may she bedew us
with a flood of splendour.

The broad earth, which the sleepless gods ever attentively guard, shall milk for us precious honey, and, moreover, besprinkle us with glory!

avś_12.001.08.

या॒र्णवे॒ ऽधि सलिल॒म् अ॒ग्र आ॒सीत् यां॒ माया॒भिर् अन्व॒चरन् मनीषि॒णः ।
य॒स्या हृ॒दयं परमे॒ व्यो॑मन्त् सत्ये॒ना॒वृतम् अमृ॒तं पृथिव्याः॒ ।
सा॒ नो भू॒मिस् त्वि॒षिं ब॒लं राष्ट्रे॒ दधातूत्तमे॒ ॥८॥

yā́rṇavé 'dhi salilám ágra ā́sīt yā́ṃ māyā́bhir anvácaran manīṣíṇaḥ |
yásyā hŕ̥dayaṃ paramé vyòmant satyénā́vr̥tam amŕ̥taṃ pr̥thivyā́ḥ |
sā́ no bhū́mis tvíṣiṃ bálaṃ rāṣṭré dadhātūttamé ||8||

(Та), что в начале была водой в бурном море,
Кого мудрые пытались достигнуть с помощью колдовских чар,
Земля, чье бессмертное сердце
Окутано истиной на высшем небосводе,
Пусть эта Земля дарует нам
Блеск, силу в высшем царстве!

She who at first was water in the ocean, whom with their wond-
rous powers the sages followed,
May she whose heart is in the highest heaven, compassed about
wit h truth, and everlasting,
May she, this Earth, bestow upon us lustre, and grant us power
in loftiest dominion.

That earth which formerly was water upon the ocean (of space), which the wise (seers) found out by their skilful devices; whose heart is in the highest heaven, immortal, surrounded by truth, shall bestow upon us brilliancy and strength, (and place us) in supreme sovereignty!

avś_12.001.09.

य॒स्याम् आ॒पः परिचराः॒ समानी॒र् अहोरात्रे॒ अ॒प्रमादं क्ष॒रन्ति ।
सा॒ नो भू॒मिर् भू॒रिधारा प॒यो दुहाम् अ॒थो उक्षतु व॒र्चसा ॥९॥

yásyām ā́paḥ paricarā́ḥ samānī́r ahorātré ápramādaṃ kṣáranti |
sā́ no bhū́mir bhū́ridhārā páyo duhām átho ukṣatu várcasā ||9||

(Земля), по которой движущиеся по кругу одинаковые воды
Неустанно текут днем и ночью,
Эта Земля со многими потоками пусть надоит нам молока,
А также пусть окропит (нас) блеском!

On whom the running universal waters flow day and night with
never-ceasing motion,
May she with many streams pour milk to feed us, may she
bedew us with a flood of splendour.

That earth upon which the attendant waters jointly flow by day and night unceasingly, shall pour out milk for us in rich streams, and, moreover, besprinkle us with glory!

avś_12.001.10.

या॒म् अश्वि॒नाव् अ॒मिमातां वि॒ष्णुर् य॒स्यां विचक्रमे॒ ।
इ॒न्द्रो यां॒ चक्र॒ आत्म॒ने ऽनमित्रां॒ श॒चीप॒तिः ।
सा॒ नो भू॒मिर् वि॒ सृजतां माता॒ पुत्रा॒य मे प॒यः ॥१०॥ {१}

yā́m aśvínāv ámimātāṃ víṣṇur yásyāṃ vicakramé |
índro yā́ṃ cakrá ātmáne 'namitrā́ṃ śácīpátiḥ |
sā́ no bhū́mir ví sr̥jatāṃ mātā́ putrā́ya me páyaḥ ||10|| {1}

(Земля), которую Ашвины измерили,
По которой шагал Вишну,
Которую Индра, повелитель силы,
Сделал себе свободной от врагов,
Эта Земля, наша мать,
Пусть отпустит мне, сыну, молока!

She whom the Asvins measured out, o'er whom the foot of
Vishnu strode,
Whom Indra, Lord of Power and Might, freed from all foemen
for himself,
May Earth pour out her milk for us, a mother unto me her son.

The earth which the Asvins have measured, upon which Vishnu has stepped out, which Indra, the lord of might, has made friendly to himself; she, the mother, shall pour forth milk for me, the son!

avś_12.001.11.

गिर॒यस् ते प॒र्वता हिम॒वन्तो॒ ऽरण्यं ते पृथिवि स्योन॒म् अस्तु ।
बभ्रुं॒ कृष्णां॒ रो॒हिणीं विश्व॒रूपां ध्रुवां॒ भू॒मिं पृथिवी॒म् इ॒न्द्रगुप्ताम् ।
अ॒जीतो॒ ऽहतो अ॒क्षतो॒ ऽध्य् अष्ठाम् पृथिवी॒म् अ॒हम् ॥११॥

giráyas te párvatā himávantó 'raṇyaṃ te pr̥thivi syonám astu |
babhrúṃ kr̥ṣṇā́ṃ róhiṇīṃ viśvárūpāṃ dhruvā́ṃ bhū́miṃ pr̥thivī́m índraguptām |
ájītó 'hato ákṣató 'dhy aṣṭhām pr̥thivī́m áham ||11||

Пусть холмы твои (и) горы, покрытые снегом,
Лесные заросли твои, о Земля, будут дружелюбны!
На Земле коричневой, черной, красной, всех цветов,
На устойчивой Земле, защищенной Индрой,
На Земле стоял я,
Не угнетенный, не убитый, не раненый.

O Prithivī, auspicious be thy woodlands, auspicious be thy hills
and snow-clad mountains.
Unslain, unwounded, unsubdued, I have set foot upon the
Earth,
On earth brown, black, ruddy and every-coloured, on the firm
earth that Indra guards from danger.

Thy snowy mountain heights, and thy forests, O earth, shall be kind to us! The brown, the black, the red, the multi-coloured, the firm earth, that is protected by Indra, I have settled upon, not suppressed, not slain, not wounded.

avś_12.001.12.

य॒त् ते म॒ध्यं पृथिवि य॒च् च न॒भ्यं या॒स् त ऊ॒र्जस् तन्वः॑ संबभूवुः॒ ।
ता॒सु नो धेह्य् अभि॒ नः पवस्व माता॒ भू॒मिः पुत्रो॒ अहं॒ पृथिव्याः॒ पर्ज॒न्यः पिता॒ स॒ उ नः पिपर्तु ॥१२॥

yát te mádhyaṃ pr̥thivi yác ca nábhyaṃ yā́s ta ū́rjas tanvàḥ saṃbabhūvúḥ |
tā́su no dhehy abhí naḥ pavasva mātā́ bhū́miḥ putró aháṃ pr̥thivyā́ḥ parjányaḥ pitā́ sá u naḥ pipartu ||12||

Что твоя середина, о Земля, и что пуповина,
(И те) питательные силы, что возникли из твоего тела, —
В них нас помести, очищай нас!
Земля — мать, я сын Земли,
Парджанья — отец, он пусть нас и спасет.

O Prithivī, thy centre and thy navel, all forces that have issued
from thy body
Set us amid those forces; breathe upon us. I am the son of
Earth, Earth is my Mother. Parjanya is my Sire; may he
promote me.

Into thy rniddle set us, O earth, and into thy navel, into the nourishing strength that has grown tip from thy body; purify thyself for us! The earth is the mother, and I the son of the earth; Paro-anya is the father; he, too, shall save us!

avś_12.001.13.

य॒स्यां वे॒दिं परिगृह्ण॒न्ति भू॒म्यां य॒स्यां यज्ञं॒ तन्व॒ते विश्व॒कर्माणः ।
य॒स्यां मीय॒न्ते स्व॒रवः पृथिव्या॒म् ऊर्ध्वाः॒ शुक्रा॒ आ॒हुत्याः पुर॒स्तात् ।
सा॒ नो भू॒मिर् वर्धयद् व॒र्धमाना ॥१३॥

yásyāṃ védiṃ parigr̥hṇánti bhū́myāṃ yásyāṃ yajñáṃ tanváte viśvákarmāṇaḥ |
yásyāṃ mīyánte sváravaḥ pr̥thivyā́m ūrdhvā́ḥ śukrā́ ā́hutyāḥ purástāt |
sā́ no bhū́mir vardhayad várdhamānā ||13||

Земля, на которой огораживают алтарь,
На которой (жрецы), делающие все, протягивают жертву,
Земля, на которой устанавливаются жертвенные столбы
Перед возлиянием, прямые, сверкающие,
Пусть эта усиливающаяся Земля усилит нас!

Earth on whose surface they enclose the altar, and all-performers
spin the thread of worship;
In whom the stakes of sacrifice, resplendent, are fixed and raised
on high before the oblation, may she, this Earth, prospering,
make us prosper.

The earth upon which they (the priests) inclose the altar (vedi), upon which they, devoted to all (holy) works, unfold the sacrifice, upon which are set up, in front of the sacrifice, the sacrificial posts, erect and brilliant, that earth shall prosper us, herself prospering!

avś_12.001.14.

यो॒ नो द्वे॒षत् पृथिवि यः॒ पृतन्या॒द् यो॒ ऽभिदा॒सान् म॒नसा यो॒ वधे॒न ।
तं॒ नो भूमे रन्धय पूर्वकृत्वरि ॥१४॥

yó no dvéṣat pr̥thivi yáḥ pr̥tanyā́d yó 'bhidā́sān mánasā yó vadhéna |
táṃ no bhūme randhaya pūrvakr̥tvari ||14||

Кто нас будет ненавидеть, о Земля, кто будет (с нами) бороться,
Кто будет вредить мыслью, кто оружием,
О Земля, действующая заранее, отдай того в нашу власть!

The man who hates us, Earth! who fights against us, who
threaten us with thought or deadly weapon, make him our
thrall as thou hast done aforetime.

Him that hates us, O earth, him that battles against us, him that is hostile towards us with his mind and his weapons, do thou subject to us, anticipating (our wish) by deed!

avś_12.001.15.

त्व॒ज् जाता॒स् त्व॒यि चरन्ति म॒र्त्यास् त्वं॒ बिभर्षि द्विप॒दस् त्वं॒ च॒तुष्पदः ।
त॒वेमे॒ पृथिवि प॒ञ्च मानवा॒ ये॒भ्यो ज्यो॒तिर् अमृ॒तं म॒र्त्येभ्य उद्य॒न्त् सू॒र्यो रश्मि॒भिर् आतनो॒ति ॥१५॥

tváj jātā́s tváyi caranti mártyās tváṃ bibharṣi dvipádas tváṃ cátuṣpadaḥ |
távemé pr̥thivi páñca mānavā́ yébhyo jyótir amŕ̥taṃ mártyebhya udyánt sū́ryo raśmíbhir ātanóti ||15||

Рожденные от тебя, по тебе странствуют смертные.
Ты несешь (на себе) двуногих, ты — четвероногих.
Твои, о Земля, эти пять родов человеческих,
Смертные, для которых восходящее солнце
Протягивает лучами бессмертный свет.

Produced from thee, on thee move mortal creatures: thou
bearest them, both quadruped and biped.
Thine, Prithivī, are these Five human Races, for whom, though
mortal, Sūrya as he rises spreads with his rays the light that is
immortal.

The mortals born of thee live on thee, thou supportest both bipeds and quadrupeds. Thine, O earth, are these five races of men, the mortals, upon whom the rising sun sheds undying light with his rays.

avś_12.001.16.

ता॒ नः प्रजाः॒ सं॒ दुह्रतां समग्रा॒ वाचो॒ म॒धु पृथिवि धेहि म॒ह्यम् ॥१६॥

tā́ naḥ prajā́ḥ sáṃ duhratāṃ samagrā́ vācó mádhu pr̥thivi dhehi máhyam ||16||

Пусть эти существа, все до одного, принесут нам пользу!
О Земля, надели меня медом речи!

In concert may these creatures yield us blessings. With honey of
discourse, O Earth, endow me.

These creatures all together shall yield milk for us; do thou, O earth, give us the honey of speech!

avś_12.001.17.

विश्वस्वं॑ मात॒रम् ओ॒षधीनां ध्रुवां॒ भू॒मिं पृथिवीं॒ ध॒र्मणा धृता॒म् ।
शिवां॒ स्योना॒म् अ॒नु चरेम विश्व॒हा ॥१७॥

viśvasvàṃ mātáram óṣadhīnāṃ dhruvā́ṃ bhū́miṃ pr̥thivī́ṃ dhármaṇā dhr̥tā́m |
śivā́ṃ syonā́m ánu carema viśváhā ||17||

Пусть всегда мы будем ходить по Земле, всепорождающей матери трав,
Устойчивой Земле, поддержанной (священным) законом,
Милостивой, доброй!

Kind, ever gracious be the Earth we tread on, the firm Earth,
Prithivī, borne up by Order, mother of plants and herbs, the
all-producer.

Upon the firm, broad earth, the all-begetting mother of the plants, that is supported by (divine) law, upon her, propitious and kind, may we ever pass-our lives!

avś_12.001.18.

मह॒त् सध॒स्थं महती॒ बभू॒विथ महा॒न् वे॒ग एज॒थुर् वेप॒थुष् टे ।
महां॒स् त्वे॒न्द्रो रक्षत्य् अ॒प्रमादम् ।
सा॒ नो भूमे प्र॒ रोचय हि॒रण्यस्येव संदृ॒शि मा॒ नो द्विक्षत क॒श् चन॒ ॥१८॥

mahát sadhásthaṃ mahatī́ babhū́vitha mahā́n véga ejáthur vepáthuṣ ṭe |
mahā́ṃs tvéndro rakṣaty ápramādam |
sā́ no bhūme prá rocaya híraṇyasyeva saṃdŕ̥śi mā́ no dvikṣata káś caná ||18||

Великая, ты стала великим местом для жилья.
Велики твой порыв, движение, сотрясение.
Великий Индра неизменно тебя защищает.
Дай нам сиять, о Земля,
Как при виде золота!
Пусть никто нас не ненавидит!

A vast abode hast thou become, the Mighty. Great stress is on
thee, press and agitation, but with unceasing care great Indra
guards thee.
So make us shine, O Earth, us with the splendour of gold. Let
no man look on us with hatred.

A great gathering-place thou, great (earth), hast become; great haste, commotion, and agitation are upon thee. Great Indra protects thee unceasingly. Do thou, O earth, cause us to brighten as if at the sight of gold: not any one shall hate us!

avś_12.001.19.

अग्नि॒र् भू॒म्याम् ओ॒षधीष्व् अग्नि॒म् आ॒पो बिभ्रत्य् अग्नि॒र् अ॒श्मसु ।
अग्नि॒र् अन्तः॒ पु॒रुषेषु गो॒ष्व् अ॒श्वेष्व् अग्न॒यः ॥१९॥

agnír bhū́myām óṣadhīṣv agním ā́po bibhraty agnír áśmasu |
agnír antáḥ púruṣeṣu góṣv áśveṣv agnáyaḥ ||19||

Агни — в Земле, в растениях.
Вóды несут Агни, Агни — в камнях.
Агни — внутри людей.
Агни в коровах (и) в конях.

Agni is in the earth, in plants; the waters hold Agni in them,
in the stones is Agni.
Agni abideth deep in men: Agnis abide in cows and steeds.

Agni (fire) is in the earth, in the plants, the waters hold Agni, Agni is in the stones; Agni is within men, Agnis (fires) are within cattle, within horses.

avś_12.001.20.

अग्नि॒र् दिव॒ आ॒ तपत्य् अग्ने॒र् देव॒स्योर्व् अ॑न्त॒रिक्षम् ।
अग्निं॒ म॒र्तास इन्धते हव्यवा॒हं घृतप्रि॒यम् ॥२०॥ {२}

agnír divá ā́ tapaty agnér devásyorv àntárikṣam |
agníṃ mártāsa indhate havyavā́haṃ ghr̥tapríyam ||20|| {2}

Агни пылает на небе.
Широкий воздушный простор принадлежит богу Агни.
Смертные зажигают Агни
Как перевозчика жертв, любителя жира.

Agni gives shine and heat in heaven: the spacious air is his, the
God's
Lover of fatness, bearer of oblation, men enkindle him.

Agni glows from the sky, to Agni, the god, belongs the broad air. The mortals kindle Agni, the bearer of oblations, that loveth ghee.

avś_12.001.21.

अग्नि॒वासाः पृथिव्य् अ॑सितज्ञू॒स् त्वि॒षीमन्तं सं॒शितं मा कृणोतु ॥२१॥

agnívāsāḥ pr̥thivy àsitajñū́s tvíṣīmantaṃ sáṃśitaṃ mā kr̥ṇotu ||21||

Пусть Земля, одетая в огонь, с черными коленями,
Сделает меня блистательным, заостренным!

Dark-kneed, invested with a fiery mantle, Prithivī sharpen me
and give me splendour!

The earth, clothed in Agni, with dark knees, shall make me brilliant and alert!

avś_12.001.22.

भू॒म्यां देवे॒भ्यो ददति यज्ञं॒ हव्य॒म् अ॒रंकृतम् ।
भू॒म्यां मनुष्या॑ जीवन्ति स्वध॒या॒न्नेन म॒र्त्याः ।
सा॒ नो भू॒मिः प्राण॒म् आ॒युर् दधातु जर॒दष्टिं मा पृथिवी॒ कृणोतु ॥२२॥

bhū́myāṃ devébhyo dadati yajñáṃ havyám áraṃkr̥tam |
bhū́myāṃ manuṣyā̀ jīvanti svadháyā́nnena mártyāḥ |
sā́ no bhū́miḥ prāṇám ā́yur dadhātu jarádaṣṭiṃ mā pr̥thivī́ kr̥ṇotu ||22||

На Земле богам дают
Жертву, приготовленное возлияние.
На Земле живут люди,
Смертные, благодаря свадха, благодаря еде.
Эта Земля пусть даст нам дыхание, срок жизни!
Пусть создаст мне Земля достижение старости!

On earth they offer sacrifice and dressed oblation to the Gods.
Men, mortals, live upon the earth by food in their accustomed
way.
May that Earth grant us breath and vital power. Prithivī give
me life of long duration!

Upon the earth men give to the gods the sacrifice, the prepared oblation; upon the earth mortal men live pleasantly by food. May this earth give us breath and life, may she cause me to reach old age!

avś_12.001.23.

य॒स् ते गन्धः॒ पृथिवि संबभू॒व यं॒ बि॒भ्रत्य् ओ॒षधयो य॒म् आ॒पः ।
यं॒ गन्धर्वा॒ अप्सर॒सश् च भेजिरे॒ ते॒न मा सुरभिं॒ कृणु मा॒ नो द्विक्षत क॒श् चन॒ ॥२३॥

yás te gandháḥ pr̥thivi saṃbabhū́va yáṃ bíbhraty óṣadhayo yám ā́paḥ |
yáṃ gandharvā́ apsarásaś ca bhejiré téna mā surabhíṃ kr̥ṇu mā́ no dvikṣata káś caná ||23||

Запах, который возник у тебя, о Земля,
Который несут травы, который — вóды,
Который разделили (с тобой) гандхарвы и апсарас,
С его помощью сделай меня благоуханным!
Пусть никто нас не ненавидит!

Scent that hath risen from thee, O Earth, the fragrance which.
growing herbs and plants and waters carry,
Shared by Apsarases, shared by Gandharvas therewith make
thou me sweet: let no man hate me.

The fragrance, O earth, that has arisen upon thee, which the plants and the waters hold, which the Gandharvas and the Apsaras have partaken of, with that make me fragrant: not any one shall hate us!

avś_12.001.24.

य॒स् ते गन्धः॒ पु॒ष्करम् आविवे॒श यं॒ संजभ्रुः॒ सूर्या॒या विवाहे॒ ।
अ॒मर्त्याः पृथिवि गन्ध॒म् अ॒ग्रे ते॒न मा॒ सुरभिं॒ कृणु मा॒ नो द्विक्षत क॒श् चन॒ ॥२४॥

yás te gandháḥ púṣkaram āvivéśa yáṃ saṃjabhrúḥ sūryā́yā vivāhé |
ámartyāḥ pr̥thivi gandhám ágre téna mā́ surabhíṃ kr̥ṇu mā́ no dvikṣata káś caná ||24||

Запах, который у тебя, вошел в голубой лотос,
(Тот запах), что собрали на свадьбе Сурьи
Бессмертные, о Земля, запах (что был) в начале,
С его помощью сделай меня благоуханным!
Пусть никто нас не ненавидит!

Thy scent which entered and possessed the lotus, the scent
which they prepared at Sūryā's bridal,
Scent which Immortals Earth! of old collected, therewith make
thou me sweet: let no man hate me.

That fragrance of thine which has entered into the lotus, that fragrance, O earth, which the immortals of yore gathered up at the marriage of Sūryā, with that make me fragrant: not any one shall hate us!

avś_12.001.25.

य॒स् ते गन्धः॒ पु॒रुषेषु स्त्रीषु॒ पुंसु॒ भ॒गो रु॒चिः ।
यो॒ अ॒श्वेषु वीरे॒षु यो॒ मृगे॒षूत॒ हस्ति॒षु ।
कन्या॑यां व॒र्चो य॒द् भूमे ते॒नास्मां॒ अ॒पि सं॒ सृज मा॒ नो द्विक्षत क॒श् चन॒ ॥२५॥

yás te gandháḥ púruṣeṣu strīṣú puṃsú bhágo rúciḥ |
yó áśveṣu vīréṣu yó mr̥géṣūtá hastíṣu |
kanyā̀yāṃ várco yád bhūme ténāsmā́m̐ ápi sáṃ sr̥ja mā́ no dvikṣata káś caná ||25||

Запах, который у тебя, (он) в людях,
Женщинах и мужчинах, привлекательность, блеск,
(Запах), который в конях, в героях,
Который в диких зверях и в слонах,
Блеск, который в девице, о Земля, —
Соедини нас также и с ним!
Пусть никто нас не ненавидит!

Thy scent in women and in men, the luck and light that is in.
males,
That is in heroes and in steeds in sylvan beasts and elephants,
The splendid energy of maids, therewith do thou unite us,.
Earth! Let no man look on us with hate.

That fragrance of thine which is in men, the loveliness and charm that is in male and female, that which is in steeds and heroes, that which is in the wild animals with trunks (elephants), the lustre that is in the maiden, O earth, with that do thou blend us: not any one shall hate us!

avś_12.001.26.

शिला॒ भू॒मिर् अ॒श्मा पांसुः॒ सा॒ भू॒मिः सं॒धृता धृता॒ ।
त॒स्यै हि॒रण्यवक्षसे पृथिव्या॒ अकरं न॒मः ॥२६॥

śilā́ bhū́mir áśmā pāṃsúḥ sā́ bhū́miḥ sáṃdhr̥tā dhr̥tā́ |
tásyai híraṇyavakṣase pr̥thivyā́ akaraṃ námaḥ ||26||

Скала — (это) Земля, камень, пыль.
Эта Земля удержана, поддержана,
Этой златогрудой Земле
Я совершил поклонение.

Rock earth, and stone, and dust, this Earth is held together,.
firmly bound.
To this gold-breasted Prithivī mine adoration have I paid.

Rock, stone, dust is this earth; this earth is supported, held together. To this golden-breasted earth I have rendered obeisance.

avś_12.001.27.

य॒स्यां वृक्षा॒ वानस्पत्या॒ ध्रुवा॒स् ति॒ष्ठन्ति विश्व॒हा ।
पृथिवीं॒ विश्व॒धायसं धृता॒म् अछा॒वदामसि ॥२७॥

yásyāṃ vr̥kṣā́ vānaspatyā́ dhruvā́s tíṣṭhanti viśváhā |
pr̥thivī́ṃ viśvádhāyasaṃ dhr̥tā́m achā́vadāmasi ||27||

На ком деревья, лесные деревья
Всегда стоят твердо,
К Земле, всеобщей кормилице,
Поддержанной, мы обращаемся.

Hither we call the firmly held, the all-supporting Prithivī,
On whom the trees, lords of the wood, stand evermore immov-
able.

The earth, upon whom the forest-sprung trees ever stand firm, the all-nourishing, compact earth, do we invoke.

avś_12.001.28.

उदी॒राणा उता॒सीनास् ति॒ष्ठन्तः प्रक्रा॒मन्तः ।
पद्भ्यां॒ दक्षिणसव्या॒भ्यां मा॒ व्यथिष्महि भू॒म्याम् ॥२८॥

udī́rāṇā utā́sīnās tíṣṭhantaḥ prakrā́mantaḥ |
padbhyā́ṃ dakṣiṇasavyā́bhyāṃ mā́ vyathiṣmahi bhū́myām ||28||

Вставая, а также сидя,
Стоя, шагая вперед,
Правой ногой (и) левой, —
Да не будем мы спотыкаться на Земле!

Sitting at ease or rising up, standing or going on our way.
With our right foot and with our left we will not reel upon the
earth.

Rising or sitting, standing or walking, may we not stumble with our right or left foot upon the earth!

avś_12.001.29.

विमृ॒ग्वरीं पृथिवी॒म् आ॒ वदामि क्षमां॒ भू॒मिं ब्र॒ह्मणा वावृधाना॒म् ।
ऊ॒र्जं पुष्टं॒ बि॒भ्रतीम् अन्नभागं॒ घृतं॒ त्वाभि नि॒ षीदेम भूमे ॥२९॥

vimŕ̥gvarīṃ pr̥thivī́m ā́ vadāmi kṣamā́ṃ bhū́miṃ bráhmaṇā vāvr̥dhānā́m |
ū́rjaṃ puṣṭáṃ bíbhratīm annabhāgáṃ ghr̥táṃ tvābhi ní ṣīdema bhūme ||29||

Я обращаюсь к чистой Земле,
К терпеливой Земле, возрастающей от молитвы.
Пусть сидим мы на тебе, о Земля,
На несущей питательную силу, процветание, долю в еде, жир!

I speak to Prithivī the purifier, to patient Earth who groweth
strong through Brahma.
O Earth, may we recline on thee who bearest strength, increase,
portioned share of food, and fatness.

To the pure earth I speak, to the ground, the soil that has grown through the brahma (spiritual exaltation). Upon thee, that holdest nourishment, prosperity, food, and ghee, we would settle down, O earth!

avś_12.001.30.

शुद्धा॒ न आ॒पस् तन्वे॑ क्षरन्तु यो॒ नः से॒दुर् अ॒प्रिये तं॒ नि॒ दध्मः ।
पवि॒त्रेण पृथिवि मो॒त् पुनामि ॥३०॥ {३}

śuddhā́ na ā́pas tanvè kṣarantu yó naḥ sédur ápriye táṃ ní dadhmaḥ |
pavítreṇa pr̥thivi mót punāmi ||30|| {3}

Пусть чистые воды текут для нашего тела!
(Та) слизь, которая у нас, ее мы отдаем неприятному (человеку).
Цедилкой, о Земля, я очищаю себя.

Purified for our bodies flow the waters: we bring distress on
him who would attack us.
I cleanse myself, O Earth, with that which cleanseth.

Purified the waters shall flow for our bodies; what flows off from us that do we deposit upon him we dislike: with a purifier, O earth, do I purify myself!

avś_12.001.31.

या॒स् ते प्रा॒चीः प्रदि॒शो या॒ उ॒दीचीर् या॒स् ते भूमे अधरा॒द् या॒श् च पश्चा॒त् ।
स्योना॒स् ता॒ म॒ह्यं च॒रते भवन्तु मा॒ नि॒ पप्तं भु॒वने शिश्रियाणः॒ ॥३१॥

yā́s te prā́cīḥ pradíśo yā́ údīcīr yā́s te bhūme adharā́d yā́ś ca paścā́t |
syonā́s tā́ máhyaṃ cárate bhavantu mā́ ní paptaṃ bhúvane śiśriyāṇáḥ ||31||

Какие у тебя восточные области, какие северные,
Какие у тебя, о Земля, с юга и какие с запада,
Пусть они будут благожелательны ко мне, странствующему!
Да не полечу я вниз, опираясь о место, (где живу)!

Earth, be thine eastern and thy northern regions, those lying
southward and those lying westward.
Propitious unto me in all my movements. Long as I tread the
ground let me not stumble.

Thy easterly regions, and thy northern, thy southerly (regions), O earth, and thy western, shall be kind to me as I walk (upon thee)! May I that have been placed into the world not fall down!

avś_12.001.32.

मा॒ नः पश्चा॒न् मा॒ पुर॒स्तान् नुदिष्ठा मो॒त्तरा॒द् अधरा॒द् उत॒ ।
स्वस्ति॒ भूमे नो भव मा॒ विदन् परिपन्थि॒नो व॒रीयो यावया वध॒म् ॥३२॥

mā́ naḥ paścā́n mā́ purástān nudiṣṭhā móttarā́d adharā́d utá |
svastí bhūme no bhava mā́ vidan paripanthíno várīyo yāvayā vadhám ||32||

Не толкай нас ни с запада, ни с востока,
Ни с севера, ни с юга!
О Земля, будь нам благом!
Пусть не найдут (нас) устраивающие засаду!
Удержи подальше (их) смертельное оружие!

Drive us not from the west or east, drive us not from the north
or south,
Be gracious unto us, O Earth: let not the robbers find us; keep
the deadly weapon far away.

Do not drive us from the west, nor from the east; not from the north, and not from the south! Security be thou for us, O earth: waylayers shall not find us, hold far away (their) murderous weapon!

avś_12.001.33.

या॒वत् ते ऽभि॒ विप॒श्यामि भू॒मे सू॒र्येण मेदि॒ना ।
ता॒वन् मे च॒क्षुर् मा॒ मेष्टो॒त्तरामुत्तरां स॒माम् ॥३३॥

yā́vat te 'bhí vipáśyāmi bhū́me sū́ryeṇa medínā |
tā́van me cákṣur mā́ meṣṭóttarāmuttarāṃ sámām ||33||

Пока я разглядываю тебя,
О Земля, с солнцем как с (твоим) союзником,
До тех пор пусть зрение мое не повреждается,
Год за годом!

Long as, on thee, I look around, possessing Sūrya as a friend,
So long, through each succeeding year, let not my power of
vision fail.

As long as I look out upon thee, O earth, with Sūrya (the sun) as my companion, so long shall my sight not fall, as year followeth upon year!

avś_12.001.34.

य॒च् छ॒यानः पर्या॒वर्ते द॒क्षिणं सख्य॒म् अभि॒ भूमे पार्श्व॒म् उत्ताना॒स् त्वा प्रती॒चीं य॒त् पृष्टी॒भिर् अधिशे॒महे ।
मा॒ हिंसीस् त॒त्र नो भूमे स॒र्वस्य प्रतिशीवरि ॥३४॥

yác cháyānaḥ paryā́varte dákṣiṇaṃ sakhyám abhí bhūme pārśvám uttānā́s tvā pratī́cīṃ yát pr̥ṣṭī́bhir adhiśémahe |
mā́ hiṃsīs tátra no bhūme sárvasya pratiśīvari ||34||

Когда лежа я поворачиваюсь
На правую (или) на левую сторону, о Земля,
Когда мы ложимся на тебя, распростертые,
(Касаясь) ребрами (тебя), обращенную (к нам),
Не повреди нас, Земля, в этом случае,
О (ты), служащая ложем для всего!

When, as I lie, O Earth, I turn upon my right side and my left,
When stretched at all our length we lay our ribs on thee who
meetest us.
Do us no injury there, O Earth who furnishest a bed for all.

When, as I lie, I turn upon my right or left side, O earth; when stretched out we lie with our ribs upon thee pressing against (us), do not, O earth, that liest close to everything, there injure us!

avś_12.001.35.

य॒त् ते भूमे विख॒नामि क्षिप्रं॒ त॒द् अ॒पि रोहतु ।
मा॒ ते म॒र्म विमृग्वरि मा॒ ते हृ॒दयम् अर्पिपम् ॥३५॥

yát te bhūme vikhánāmi kṣipráṃ tád ápi rohatu |
mā́ te márma vimr̥gvari mā́ te hŕ̥dayam arpipam ||35||

Что у тебя я выкапываю, о Земля,
Пусть оно быстро вырастет!
О очищающая, да не пораню я
Ни твое уязвимое место, ни твое сердце!

Let what I dig from thee, O Earth, rapidly spring and grow
again.
O Purifier, let me not pierce through thy vitals or thy heart.

What, O earth, I dig out of thee, quickly shall that grow again: may I not, O pure one, pierce thy vital spot, (and) not thy heart!

avś_12.001.36.

ग्रीष्म॒स् ते भूमे वर्षा॒णि शर॒द् धेमन्तः॒ शि॒शिरो वसन्तः॒ ।
ऋत॒वस् ते वि॒हिता हायनी॒र् अहोरात्रे॒ पृथिवि नो दुहाताम् ॥३६॥

grīṣmás te bhūme varṣā́ṇi śarád dhemantáḥ śíśiro vasantáḥ |
r̥távas te víhitā hāyanī́r ahorātré pr̥thivi no duhātām ||36||

Лето твое, о Земля, период дождей, осень,
Зима, прохладный период, весна —
Пусть твои установленные времена года,
Годы, день-и-ночь, о Земля, дадут надоить нам (молока)!

Earth, may thy summer, and thy rains, and autumn, thy winter,
and thy dewy frosts, and spring-time.
May thy years, Prithivī! and ordered seasons, and day and
night pour out for us abundance.

Thy summer, O earth, thy rainy season, thy autumn, winter, early spring, and spring; thy decreed yearly seasons, thy days and nights shall yield us milk

avś_12.001.37.

या॒प सर्पं॒ विज॒माना विमृ॒ग्वरी य॒स्याम् आ॒सन्न् अग्न॒यो ये॒ अप्स्व् अ॑न्तः॒ ।
प॒रा द॒स्यून् द॒दती देवपीयू॒न् इ॒न्द्रं वृणाना॒ पृथिवी॒ न॒ वृत्र॒म् शक्रा॒य दध्रे वृषभा॒य वृ॒ष्णे ॥३७॥

yā́pa sarpáṃ vijámānā vimŕ̥gvarī yásyām ā́sann agnáyo yé apsv àntáḥ |
párā dásyūn dádatī devapīyū́n índraṃ vr̥ṇānā́ pr̥thivī́ ná vr̥trám śakrā́ya dadhre vr̥ṣabhā́ya vŕ̥ṣṇe ||37||

Эта очищающая, бросающаяся прочь от змея,
В ком пребывали огни, которые внутри вод,
Отдающая (в нашу власть) дасью, оскорбляющих богов,
Земля, выбирающая Индру, а не Вритру,
Привязана к могучему, мужественному быку.

The purifier, shrinking from the Serpent, she who held fires that
lie within the waters,
Who gives as prey the God-blaspheming Dasyus, Earth choosing
Indra for her Lord, not Vritra, hath clung to Sakra, to the
Strong and Mighty.

The pure earth that starts in fright away from the serpent, upon whom were the fires that are within the waters, she that delivers (to destruction) the blasphemous Dasyus, she that takes the side of Indra, not of Vritra, (that earth) adheres to Sakra (mighty Indra), the lusty bull.

avś_12.001.38.

य॒स्यां सदोहविर्धाने॒ यू॒पो य॒स्यां निमीय॒ते ।
ब्रह्मा॒णो य॒स्याम् अ॒र्चन्त्य् ऋग्भिः॒ सा॒म्ना यजुर्वि॒दः युज्य॒न्ते य॒स्याम् ऋत्वि॒जः सो॒मम् इ॒न्द्राय पा॒तवे ॥३८॥

yásyāṃ sadohavirdhāné yū́po yásyāṃ nimīyáte |
brahmā́ṇo yásyām árcanty r̥gbhíḥ sā́mnā yajurvídaḥ yujyánte yásyām r̥tvíjaḥ sómam índrāya pā́tave ||38||

На ком (находятся) место (жертвоприношения) и повозка для сомы,
В кого устанавливается жертвенный столб,
На ком брахмáны восхваляют
Гимнами, мелодией, (эти) знатоки жертвенных формул,
На ком объединяются жрецы,
Чтобы Индра пил сому,

Base of the seat and sheds, on whom the sacrificial stake is
reared,
On whom the Yajus-knowing priests recite their hymns and
chant their psalms,
And ministers are busied that Indra may drink the Soma juice;

Upon whom rests the sacrificial hut (sadas) and the (two) vehicles that hold the soma (havirdhāne), in whom the sacrificial post is fixed, upon whom the Brāhmanas praise (the gods) with riks and sāmans, knowing (also) the yagur-formulas; upon whom the serving-priests (ritvig) are employed so that Indra shall drink the soma; —

avś_12.001.39.

य॒स्यां पू॒र्वे भूतकृ॒त ऋ॒षयो गा॒ उ॒दानृचुः॒ ।
सप्त॒ सत्रे॒ण वेध॒सो यज्ञे॒न त॒पसा सह॒ ॥३९॥

yásyāṃ pū́rve bhūtakŕ̥ta ŕ̥ṣayo gā́ údānr̥cúḥ |
saptá satréṇa vedháso yajñéna tápasā sahá ||39||

На ком прежние риши,
Творцы существ, воспевали коров,
(Эти) семеро почитателей (богов), с помощью праздника сомы
(И) жертвы вместе с покаянием,

On whom the ancient Rishis, they who made the world, sang
forth the cows,
Seven worshippers, by session, with their fervent zeal and
sacrifice;

Upon whom the seers of yore, that created the beings, brought forth with their songs the cows, they the seven active (priests), by means of the satra-offerings, the sacrifices, and (their) creative fervour (tapas); —

avś_12.001.40.

सा॒ नो भू॒मिर् आ॒ दिशतु य॒द् ध॒नं काम॒यामहे ।
भ॒गो अनुप्र॒युङ्क्ताम् इ॒न्द्र एतु पुरोगवः॒ ॥४०॥ {४}

sā́ no bhū́mir ā́ diśatu yád dhánaṃ kāmáyāmahe |
bhágo anupráyuṅktām índra etu purogaváḥ ||40|| {4}

Эта Земля пусть предназначит для нас
(То) богатство, которого мы желаем!
Пусть Бхага присоединится вслед,
Пусть Индра пойдет как вождь!

May she, the Earth, assign to us the opulence for which we
yearn,
May Bhaga share and aid the task and Indra come to lead the
way.

May this earth point out to us the wealth that we-crave; may Bhaga (fortune) add his help, may Indra come here as (our) champion!

avś_12.001.41.

य॒स्यां गा॒यन्ति नृ॒त्यन्ति भू॒म्यां म॒र्त्या व्यै॑लबाः ।
युध्य॒न्ते य॒स्याम् आक्रन्दो॒ य॒स्याम् व॒दति दुन्दुभिः॒ ।
सा॒ नो भू॒मिः प्र॒ णुदतां सप॒त्नान् असपत्नं॒ मा पृथिवी॒ कृणोतु ॥४१॥

yásyāṃ gā́yanti nŕ̥tyanti bhū́myāṃ mártyā vyàilabāḥ |
yudhyánte yásyām ākrandó yásyām vádati dundubhíḥ |
sā́ no bhū́miḥ prá ṇudatāṃ sapátnān asapatnáṃ mā pr̥thivī́ kr̥ṇotu ||41||

Земля, на которой очень шумные (?)
Смертные поют (и) танцуют,
На которой они сражаются,
На которой (слышен) звук битвы (и) говорит барабан,
Пусть эта Земля оттолкнет наших соперников!
Пусть Земля сделает меня лишенным соперников!

May she, the Earth, whereon men sing and dance with varied
shout and noise,
Whereon men meet in battle, and the war-cry and the drum
resound,
May she drive off our foemen, may Prithivī rid me of my foes.

The earth upon whom the noisy mortals sing and dance, upon whom they fight, upon whom resounds the roaring drum, shall drive forth our enemies, shall make us free from rivals!

avś_12.001.42.

य॒स्याम् अ॒न्नं व्रीहियवौ॒ य॒स्या इमाः॒ प॒ञ्च कृष्ट॒यः ।
भू॒म्यै पर्ज॒न्यपत्न्यै न॒मो ऽस्तु वर्ष॒मेदसे ॥४२॥

yásyām ánnaṃ vrīhiyaváu yásyā imā́ḥ páñca kr̥ṣṭáyaḥ |
bhū́myai parjányapatnyai námo 'stu varṣámedase ||42||

Кому принадлежит пища — рис-и-ячмень,
Кому эти пять народов —
(Этой) Земле, супруге Парджаньи,
Становящейся жирной от дождя, да будет поклонение!

On whom is food, barley and rice, to whom these Races Five
belong,
Homage to her, P arjanya's wife, to her whose marrow is the
rain!

To the earth upon whom are food, and rice and barley, upon whom live these five races of men, to the earth, the wife of Parganya, that is fattened by rain, be reverence!

avś_12.001.43.

य॒स्याः पु॒रो देव॒कृताः क्षे॒त्रे य॒स्या विकुर्व॒ते ।
प्रजा॒पतिः पृथिवीं॒ विश्व॒गर्भाम् आ॒शामाशां र॒ण्यां नः कृणोतु ॥४३॥

yásyāḥ púro devákr̥tāḥ kṣétre yásyā vikurváte |
prajā́patiḥ pr̥thivī́ṃ viśvágarbhām ā́śāmāśāṃ ráṇyāṃ naḥ kr̥ṇotu ||43||

Кому принадлежат крепости, созданные богами,
На чьей почве они преображаются (?), —
(Эту) Землю, несущую все в (своей) утробе,
Пусть Праджапати сделает радующей нас,
Одно место за другим!

Whose castles are the work of Gods, and men wage war upon
her plain
The Lord of Life make Prithivī, who beareth all things in her
womb, pleasant to us on every side!

The earth upon whose ground the citadels constructed by the gods unfold themselves, every region of her that is the womb of all, Pragāpati shall make pleasant for us!

avś_12.001.44.

निधिं॒ बि॒भ्रती बहुधा॒ गु॒हा व॒सु मणिं॒ हि॒रण्यं पृथिवी॒ ददातु मे ।
व॒सूनि नो वसुदा॒ रा॒समाना देवी॒ दधातु सुमनस्य॒माना ॥४४॥

nidhíṃ bíbhratī bahudhā́ gúhā vásu maṇíṃ híraṇyaṃ pr̥thivī́ dadātu me |
vásūni no vasudā́ rā́samānā devī́ dadhātu sumanasyámānā ||44||

Тайно неся во многих местах сокровище, добро,
Пусть Земля дарует мне драгоценность (и) золото!
Пусть (эта) дающая добро, награждающая богиня
Даст нам добро с открытой душой!

May Earth the Goddess, she who bears her treasure stored up
in many a place, gold, gems, and riches,
Giver of opulence, grant great possessions to us bestowing them
with love and favour.

The earth that holds treasures manifold in secret places, wealth, jewels, and gold shall she give to me; she that bestows wealth liberally, the kindly goddess, wealth shall she bestow upon us!

avś_12.001.45.

ज॒नं बि॒भ्रती बहुधा॒ वि॒वाचसं ना॒नाधर्माणं पृथिवी॒ यथौकस॒म् ।
सह॒स्रं धा॒रा द्र॒विणस्य मे दुहां ध्रुवे॒व धेनु॒र् अ॒नपस्फुरन्ती ॥४५॥

jánaṃ bíbhratī bahudhā́ vívācasaṃ nā́nādharmāṇaṃ pr̥thivī́ yathaukasám |
sahásraṃ dhā́rā dráviṇasya me duhāṃ dhruvéva dhenúr ánapasphurantī ||45||

Пусть Земля, несущая (на себе) во многих местах людей,
Говорящих на разных языках, с различными обычаями, как (у них принято) дóма,
Надоит мне тысячу потоков имущества,
Словно верная, неупирающаяся дойная корова!

Earth, bearing folk of many a varied language with divers rites
as suits their dwelling-places,
Pour, like a constant cow that never faileth, a thousand streams
of treasure to enrich me!

The earth that holds people of manifold varied speech, of different customs, according to their habitations, as a reliable milch-cow that does not kick, shall she milk for me a thousand streams of wealth!

avś_12.001.46.

य॒स् ते सर्पो॒ वृ॒श्चिकस् तृष्ट॒दंश्मा हेमन्त॒जब्धो भृमलो॒ गु॒हा श॒ये ।
क्रि॒मिर् जि॒न्वत् पृथिवि य॒द्यद् ए॒जति प्रावृ॒षि त॒न् नः स॒र्पन् मो॒प सृपद् य॒च् छिवं॒ ते॒न नो मृड ॥४६॥

yás te sarpó vŕ̥ścikas tr̥ṣṭádaṃśmā hemantájabdho bhr̥maló gúhā śáye |
krímir jínvat pr̥thivi yádyad éjati prāvŕ̥ṣi tán naḥ sárpan mópa sr̥pad yác chiváṃ téna no mr̥ḍa ||46||

Какая у тебя змея, скорпион, жадно кусающий,
Забившийся зимой, оглушенный, лежит спрятавшись,
Какой червь, оживая, о Земля,
Зашевелится в начале сезона дождей,
Ползя, да не заползет он на нас!
Что доброго (у тебя), этим нас помилуй!

Thy snake, thy sharply stinging scorpion, lying concealed, be-
wildered, chilled with cold of winter,
The worm, O Prithivī, each thing that in the Rains revives and
stirs,
Creeping, forbear to creep on us! With all things gracious bless
thou us.

The serpent, the scorpion with thirsty fangs, that hibernating torpidly lies upon thee; the worm, and whatever living thing, O earth, moves in the rainy season, shall, when it creeps, not creep upon us: with what is auspicious (on thee) be gracious to us!

avś_12.001.47.

ये॒ ते प॒न्थानो बह॒वो जना॒यना र॒थस्य व॒र्त्मा॒नसश् च या॒तवे ।
यैः॒ संच॒रन्त्य् उभ॒ये भद्रपापा॒स् तं॒ प॒न्थानं जयेमानमित्र॒म् अतस्करं॒ य॒च् छिवं॒ ते॒न नो मृड ॥४७॥

yé te pánthāno bahávo janā́yanā ráthasya vártmā́nasaś ca yā́tave |
yáiḥ saṃcáranty ubháye bhadrapāpā́s táṃ pánthānaṃ jayemānamitrám ataskaráṃ yác chiváṃ téna no mr̥ḍa ||47||

Какие у тебя многочисленные пути, исхоженные людьми,
И дорога для движения колесницы и повозки,
По которым ходят те и другие:
Хорошие и плохие (люди), пусть завоюем мы
Этот путь, лишенный недругов, свободный от разбойников!
Что доброго (у тебя), этим нас помилуй!

Thy many ways on which the people travel, the road for car and
wain to journey over,
Thereon meet both the good and bad, that pathway may we
attain without a foe or robber. With all things gracious bless
thou us.

Thy many paths upon which people go, thy tracks for chariots and wagons to advance, upon which both good and evil men proceed, this road, free from enemies, and free from thieves, may we gain: with what is auspicious (on thee) be gracious to us!

avś_12.001.48.

मल्वं॒ बि॒भ्रती गुरुभृ॒द् भद्रपाप॒स्य निध॒नं तितिक्षुः॒ ।
वराहे॒ण पृथिवी॒ संविदाना॒ सूकरा॒य वि॒ जिहीते मृगा॒य ॥४८॥

malváṃ bíbhratī gurubhŕ̥d bhadrapāpásya nidhánaṃ titikṣúḥ |
varāhéṇa pr̥thivī́ saṃvidānā́ sūkarā́ya ví jihīte mr̥gā́ya ||48||

Несущая (на себе) глупого, несущая (и) почтенного,
Терпящая наличие хорошего-и-плохого,
Земля в согласии с кабаном
Раскрывается для дикого борова.

Supporting both the foolish and the weighty she bears the death
both of the good and evil.
In friendly concord with the boar, Earth opens herself for the
wild swine that roams the forest.

The earth holds the fool and holds the wise, endures that good and bad dwell (upon her); she keeps company with the boar, gives herself up to the wild hog.

avś_12.001.49.

ये॒ त आरण्याः॒ पश॒वो मृगा॒ व॒ने हिताः॒ सिंहा॒ व्याघ्राः॒ पुरुषा॒दश् च॒रन्ति ।
उलं॒ वृ॒कं पृथिवि दुछु॒नाम् इत॒ ऋक्षी॒कां र॒क्षो अ॒प बाधयास्म॒त् ॥४९॥

yé ta āraṇyā́ḥ paśávo mr̥gā́ váne hitā́ḥ siṃhā́ vyāghrā́ḥ puruṣā́daś cáranti |
uláṃ vŕ̥kaṃ pr̥thivi duchúnām itá r̥kṣī́kāṃ rákṣo ápa bādhayāsmát ||49||

(Те) твои животные лесные, дикие звери, находящиеся в лесу,
Львы, тигры, что бродят, пожирая людей, —
Шакала (?), волка, о Земля, ведьму, рикшику,
Ракшаса прогони отсюда прочь от нас!

All sylvan beasts of thine that love the woodlands, man-eaters,.
forest-haunting, lions, tigers,
Hyena, wolf, Misfortune, evil spirit, drive from us, chase the
demons to a distance.

Thy forest animals, the wild animals homed in the woods, the man-eating lions, and tigers that roam; the ula, the wolf, mishap, injury (rikshikā), and demons (rakshas), O earth, drive away from us!

avś_12.001.50.

ये॒ गन्धर्वा॒ अप्सर॒सो ये॒ चारा॒याः किमीदि॒नः ।
पिशाचा॒न्त् स॒र्वा र॒क्षांसि ता॒न् अस्म॒द् भूमे यावय ॥५०॥ {५}

yé gandharvā́ apsaráso yé cārā́yāḥ kimīdínaḥ |
piśācā́nt sárvā rákṣāṃsi tā́n asmád bhūme yāvaya ||50|| {5}

Какие (есть) гандхарвы, апсарас
И какие арая (и) кимидины —
Пишачей, всех ракшасов
Убери их прочь от нас, о Земля!

Gandharvas and Apsarases, Kimīdins, and malignant sprites,
Pisāchas all, and Rākshasas, these keep thou, Earth! afar from
us.

The Gandharvas, the Apsaras, the Arāyas and Kimīdins; the Pisākas and all demons (rakshas), these, O earth, hold from us!

avś_12.001.51.

यां॒ द्विपा॒दः पक्षि॒णः संप॒तन्ति हंसाः॒ सुपर्णाः॒ शकुना॒ व॒यांसि ।
य॒स्यां वा॒तो मातरि॒श्वे॒यते र॒जांसि कृण्वं॒श् च्याव॒यंश् च वृक्षा॒न् ।
वा॒तस्य प्रवा॒म् उपवा॒म् अ॒नु वात्य् अर्चिः॒ ॥५१॥

yā́ṃ dvipā́daḥ pakṣíṇaḥ saṃpátanti haṃsā́ḥ suparṇā́ḥ śakunā́ váyāṃsi |
yásyāṃ vā́to mātaríśvéyate rájāṃsi kr̥ṇváṃś cyāváyaṃś ca vr̥kṣā́n |
vā́tasya pravā́m upavā́m ánu vāty arcíḥ ||51||

К кому слетаются двуногие крылатые:
Гуси, орлы, ястребы — птицы,
По ком гуляет ветер, Матаришван,
Создавая клубы пыли, раскачивая деревья, —
Пламя клонится вслед за
Порывом ветра вперед и в лицо.

To whom the winged bipeds fly together, birds of each various
kind, the swans, the eagles;
On whom the Wind comes rushing, Mātarisvan, rousing the
dust and causing trees to tremble, and flame pursues the blast.
hither and thither;

The earth upon whom the biped birds fly together, the flamingoes, eagles, birds of prey, and fowls; upon whom Mātarisvan, the wind, hastens, raising the dust, and tossing the trees-as the wind blows forth and back the flame bursts after; —

avś_12.001.52.

य॒स्यां कृष्ण॒म् अरुणं॒ च सं॒हिते अहोरात्रे॒ वि॒हिते भू॒म्याम् अ॒धि ।
वर्षे॒ण भू॒मिः पृथिवी॒ वृता॒वृता सा॒ नो दधातु भद्र॒या प्रिये॒ धा॒मनिधामनि ॥५२॥

yásyāṃ kr̥ṣṇám aruṇáṃ ca sáṃhite ahorātré víhite bhū́myām ádhi |
varṣéṇa bhū́miḥ pr̥thivī́ vr̥tā́vr̥tā sā́ no dadhātu bhadráyā priyé dhā́manidhāmani ||52||

На ком сложены черное и красное:
День и ночь распределены на Земле, —
Широкая Земля, покрытая и окутанная дождем,
Пусть она поместит нас на радость
Каждого в приятное (для него) место для жилья!

Earth, upon whom are settled, joined together, the night and
day, the dusky and the ruddy, Prithivī compassed by the rain
about her,
Happily may she stablish us in each delightful dwelling place.

The earth upon whom day and night jointly, black and bright, have been decreed, the broad earth covered and enveloped with rain, shall kindly place us into every pleasant abode!

avś_12.001.53.

द्यौ॒श् च म इदं॒ पृथिवी॒ चान्त॒रिक्षं च मे व्य॒चः ।
अग्निः॒ सू॒र्य आ॒पो मेधां॒ वि॒श्वे देवा॒श् च सं॒ ददुः ॥५३॥

dyáuś ca ma idáṃ pr̥thivī́ cāntárikṣaṃ ca me vyácaḥ |
agníḥ sū́rya ā́po medhā́ṃ víśve devā́ś ca sáṃ daduḥ ||53||

Небо и эта Земля
И воздушное пространство (дали) мне (этот) простор.
Агни, Сурья, вóды
И все боги вместе дали (мне) мудрость.

Heaven, Earth, the realm of Middle Air have granted me this
ample room,
Agni, Sun, Waters, all the Gods have joined to give me mental
power.

Heaven, and earth, and air have here given me expanse; Agni, Sūrya, the waters, and all the gods together have given me wisdom.

avś_12.001.54.

अह॒म् अस्मि स॒हमान उ॒त्तरो ना॒म भू॒म्याम् ।
अभीषा॒ड् अस्मि विश्वाषा॒ड् आ॒शामाशां विषासहिः॒ ॥५४॥

ahám asmi sáhamāna úttaro nā́ma bhū́myām |
abhīṣā́ḍ asmi viśvāṣā́ḍ ā́śāmāśāṃ viṣāsahíḥ ||54||

Я — покоряющий,
«Высший» по имени на Земле.
Я — мощно покоряющий, всепокоряющий,
Способный покорить одну область за другой.

I am victorious, I am called the lord superior on earth,
Triumphant, all-o'erpowering the conqueror on every side

Mighty am I, 'Superior' (uttara) by name, upon the earth, conquering am I, all-conquering, completely conquering every region.

avś_12.001.55.

अदो॒ य॒द् देवि प्र॒थमाना पुर॒स्ताद् देवै॒र् उक्ता॒ व्य॒सर्पो महित्व॒म् ।
आ॒ त्वा सुभूत॒म् अविशत् तदा॒नीम् अ॒कल्पयथाः प्रदि॒शश् च॒तस्रः ॥५५॥

adó yád devi práthamānā purástād deváir uktā́ vyásarpo mahitvám |
ā́ tvā subhūtám aviśat tadā́nīm ákalpayathāḥ pradíśaś cátasraḥ ||55||

Когда там, о богиня, распространяясь вперед,
По слову богов ты постепенно достигла величия,
В тебя вошло тогда благополучие.
Ты привела в порядок четыре стороны света.

There, when the Gods, O Goddess, named thee, spreading thy
wide expanse as thou wast broadening eastward,
Then into thee passed many a charm and glory: thou madest
for thyself the world's four regions.

At that time, O goddess, when, spreading., (prathamānā) forth, named (prithivī 'broad') by the gods, thou didst extend to greatness, then prosperity did enter thee, (and) thou didst fashion the four regions.

avś_12.001.56.

ये॒ ग्रा॒मा य॒द् अ॒रण्यं याः॒ सभा॒ अ॒धि भू॒म्याम् ।
ये॒ संग्रामाः॒ स॒मितयस् ते॒षु चा॒रु वदेम ते ॥५६॥

yé grā́mā yád áraṇyaṃ yā́ḥ sabhā́ ádhi bhū́myām |
yé saṃgrāmā́ḥ sámitayas téṣu cā́ru vadema te ||56||

Какие деревни, какой густой лес,
Какие собрания на Земле,
Какие объединения (и) места встреч —
Во (всех) них пусть говорим мы приятное тебе!

In hamlets and in woodland, and in all assemblages on earth,
In gatherings, meeting of the folk, we will speak glorious things
of thee.

In the villages and in the wilderness, in the assembly-halls that are upon the earth; in the gatherings, and in the meetings, may we hold forth agreeably to thee!

avś_12.001.57.

अ॒श्व इव र॒जो दुधुवे वि॒ ता॒न् ज॒नान् य॒ आ॒क्षियन् पृथिवीं॒ या॒द् अ॒जायत ।
मन्द्रा॒ग्रे॒त्वरी भु॒वनस्य गोपा॒ व॒नस्प॒तीनां गृ॒भिर् ओ॒षधीनाम् ॥५७॥

áśva iva rájo dudhuve ví tā́n jánān yá ā́kṣiyan pr̥thivī́ṃ yā́d ájāyata |
mandrā́grétvarī bhúvanasya gopā́ vánaspátīnāṃ gŕ̥bhir óṣadhīnām ||57||

Как конь стряхивает с себя пыль, она разбросала тех людей,
Которые населяли Землю, как только она родилась, —
Прекрасная, идущая впереди, хранительница мироздания,
Заключающая в себе лесные деревья, травы.

As the horse scattereth the dust, the people who dwelt upon
the land, at birth, she scattered,
Leader and head of all the world, delightful, the trees' protectress
and the plants' upholder.

As dust a steed did she, as soon as she was born, scatter these people, that dwelt upon the earth, she the lovely one, the leader, the guardian of the world, that holds the trees and plants.

avś_12.001.58.

य॒द् व॒दामि म॒धुमत् त॒द् वदामि य॒द् ई॒क्षे त॒द् वनन्ति मा ।
त्वि॒षीमान् अस्मि जूतिमा॒न् अ॒वान्या॒न् हन्मि दो॒धतः ॥५८॥

yád vádāmi mádhumat tád vadāmi yád ī́kṣe tád vananti mā |
tvíṣīmān asmi jūtimā́n ávānyā́n hanmi dódhataḥ ||58||

Если я говорю, то говорю я медовое,
Если я смотрю, это располагает ко мне.
Я — бодрый, стремительный,
Я сшибаю других, буйствующих (против нас).

Whate'er I say I speak with honey-sweetness, whatever I behold
for that they love me.
Dazzling, impetuous am I: others who fiercely stir I slay.

The words I speak, honied do I speak them: the things I see they furnish me with. Brilliant I am and alert: the others that rush (against me) do I beat down.

avś_12.001.59.

शन्तिवा॒ सुरभिः॒ स्योना॒ कीला॒लोध्नी प॒यस्वती ।
भू॒मिर् अ॒धि ब्रवीतु मे पृथिवी॒ प॒यसा सह॒ ॥५९॥

śantivā́ surabhíḥ syonā́ kīlā́lodhnī páyasvatī |
bhū́mir ádhi bravītu me pr̥thivī́ páyasā sahá ||59||

Дружелюбная, благоуханная, мягкая,
С выменем, полным сладкого напитка, богатая молоком,
Земля пусть заступится за меня,
Земля вместе с молоком!

Mild, gracious, sweetly odorous, milky, with nectar in her breast,
May Earth, may Prithivī bestow her benison, with milk, on me.

Gentle, fragrant, kindly, with the sweet drink (kīlāla) in her udder, rich in milk, the broad earth together with (her) milk shall give us courage!

avś_12.001.60.

या॒म् अन्वै॒छद् धवि॒षा विश्व॒कर्मान्त॒र् अर्णवे॒ र॒जसि प्र॒विष्टाम् ।
भुजिष्यं॑ पा॒त्रं नि॒हितं गु॒हा य॒द् आवि॒र् भो॒गे अभवन् मातृम॒द्भ्यः ॥६०॥

yā́m anváichad dhavíṣā viśvákarmāntár arṇavé rájasi práviṣṭām |
bhujiṣyàṃ pā́traṃ níhitaṃ gúhā yád āvír bhóge abhavan mātr̥mádbhyaḥ ||60||

Кого с помощью возлияния разыскивал Вишвакарман,
Когда она проникла в бурное море, в мрачное пространство, —
Сосуд, доставляющий наслаждение, тайно спрятанный,
Который стал явным при наслаждении для тех, кто имеет матерей.

Whom Visvakarman with oblation followed, when she was set
in mid-air's billowy ocean
A useful vessel, hid, when, for enjoyment, she was made mani-
fest to those with mothers.

She whom Visvakarman (the creator of all) did search out by means of oblations, when she had entered the surging (flood of the) atmosphere, she, the vessel destined to nourish, deposited in a secret place, became visible (to the gods) and the (heavenly) mothers.

avś_12.001.61.

त्व॒म् अस्य् आव॒पनी ज॒नानाम् अ॒दितिः कामदु॒घा पप्रथाना॒ ।
य॒त् त ऊनं॒ त॒त् त आ॒ पूरयाति प्रजा॒पतिः प्रथमजा॒ ऋत॒स्य ॥६१॥

tvám asy āvápanī jánānām áditiḥ kāmadúghā paprathānā́ |
yát ta ūnáṃ tát ta ā́ pūrayāti prajā́patiḥ prathamajā́ r̥tásya ||61||

Ты — вместилище людей,
Адити, исполняющая желания, простирающаяся.
Чего тебе недостает, это тебе восполнит
Праджапати, перворожденный закона.

Thou art the vessel that containeth people, Aditi, granter of the
wish, far-spreading.
Prajāpati, the first-born Son of Order, supplieth thee with what-
soe'er thou lackest.

Thou art the scatterer of men, the broadly expanding Aditi that yields milk according to wish. What is wanting in thee Pragāpati, first-born of the divine order (rita), shall supply for thee

avś_12.001.62.

उपस्था॒स् ते अनमीवा॒ अयक्ष्मा॒ अस्म॒भ्यं सन्तु पृथिवि प्र॒सूताः ।
दीर्घं॒ न आ॒युः प्रतिबु॒ध्यमाना वयं॒ तु॒भ्यं बलिहृ॒तः स्याम ॥६२॥

upasthā́s te anamīvā́ ayakṣmā́ asmábhyaṃ santu pr̥thivi prásūtāḥ |
dīrgháṃ na ā́yuḥ pratibúdhyamānā vayáṃ túbhyaṃ balihŕ̥taḥ syāma ||62||

Пусть недра (?) твои, без болезней, без якшмы,
Будут созданы для нас, о Земля!
Внимательные, всю нашу долгую жизнь
Пусть будем мы твоими данниками!

Let thy breasts, frec from sickness and Consumption, be.
Prithivī, produced for our advantage.
Through long-extended life wakeful and watching still may we
be thy tributary servants.

Thy laps, O earth, free from ailment! Free from disease, shall be produced for us! May we attentively, throuoh our long lives, be bearers of bali-offerings to thee!

avś_12.001.63.

भू॒मे मातर् नि॒ धेहि मा भद्र॒या सु॒प्रतिष्ठितम् ।
संविदाना॒ दिवा॒ कवे श्रियां॒ मा धेहि भू॒त्याम् ॥६३॥ {६}

bhū́me mātar ní dhehi mā bhadráyā súpratiṣṭhitam |
saṃvidānā́ divā́ kave śriyā́ṃ mā dhehi bhū́tyām ||63|| {6}

О Мать-Земля, помести меня
Доброжелательно хорошо устроенным!
В согласии с небом, о мудрая,
Помести меня в счастье (и) благополучие!

O Earth, my Mother, set thou me happily in a place secure.
Of one accord with Heaven, O Sage, set me in glory and in
wealth.

O mother earth, kindly set me down upon a well-founded place! With (father) heaven cooperating, O thou wise one, do thou place me into happiness and prosperity!
