avś_12.003.01.

पु॒मान् पुंसो॒ ऽधि तिष्ठ च॒र्मेहि त॒त्र ह्वयस्व यतमा॒ प्रिया॒ ते ।
या॒वन्ताव् अ॒ग्रे प्रथमं॒ समेय॒थुस् त॒द् वां व॒यो यमरा॒ज्ये समान॒म् ॥१॥

púmān puṃsó 'dhi tiṣṭha cármehi tátra hvayasva yatamā́ priyā́ te |
yā́vantāv ágre prathamáṃ sameyáthus tád vāṃ váyo yamarā́jye samānám ||1||

Муж, встань поверх мужа! Иди на шкуру!
Туда позови (ту), которая тебе дорога!
Скольких лет (?) вы двое впервые встретились в (самом) начале,
Это (будет) ваш общий жизненный срок в царстве Ямы.

Mount, male from male, the skin. Go thither: summon those
whom thou lovest, one and all, to meet thee,
Strong as ye were when first ye met each other, still be your
strength the same in Yama's kingdom.

(Thyself) a male, step thou upon the hide of the male (steer): go, call thither all that is dear to thee! At whatever age ye two formerly did first unite (in marriage), may that age be your common lot in Yama's kingdom!

avś_12.003.02.

ता॒वद् वां च॒क्षुस् त॒ति वीर्या॑णि ता॒वत् ते॒जस् ततिधा॒ वा॒जिनानि ।
अग्निः॒ श॒रीरं सचते यदै॒धो ऽधा पक्वा॒न् मिथुना सं॒ भवाथः ॥२॥

tā́vad vāṃ cákṣus táti vīryā̀ṇi tā́vat téjas tatidhā́ vā́jināni |
agníḥ śárīraṃ sacate yadáidho 'dhā pakvā́n mithunā sáṃ bhavāthaḥ ||2||

Столь сильным (пусть будет) зрение у вас двоих, (столь) великими силы,
Столь мощным блеск, столь много воли к победе!
Агни овладевает телом, когда (подкладывают) топливо.
Затем, о объединенные в пару, из приготовленного (им) вы возникаете (снова).

So strong your sight, so many be your powers, so great your
force, your energies so many,
When fire attends the body as its fuel, then may, ye gain full
chargers, O ye couple.

Your sight shall be as clear (as formerly), your strength as abundant, your lustre as great, your vitality as manifold! When Agni, the (funeral-) pyre, fastens himself upon the corpse, then as a pair ye.shall rise from the (cooked) porridge!

avś_12.003.03.

स॒म् अस्मिंल् लोके॒ स॒म् उ देवया॒ने सं॒ स्मा समे॒तं यमरा॒ज्येषु ।
पूतौ॒ पवि॒त्रैर् उ॒प त॒द् ध्वयेथां य॒द्यद् रे॒तो अ॒धि वां संबभू॒व ॥३॥

sám asmiṃl loké sám u devayā́ne sáṃ smā samétaṃ yamarā́jyeṣu |
pūtáu pavítrair úpa tád dhvayethāṃ yádyad réto ádhi vāṃ saṃbabhū́va ||3||

В одном и том же мире, вместе на пути, исхоженном богами,
Сойдитесь вы двое вместе в царстве Ямы!
Очищенные цедилками, призовите вы двое то семя,
Которое только от вас осталось!

Together in this world, in God-ward pathway, together be ye in
the realms of Yama.
Invite, made pure with means of purifying, whatever seed of
yours hath been developed.

Come ye together in this world, upon the road to the gods, and in Yama's realms! By purifications purified call ye together the offspring that has sprung from you!

avś_12.003.04.

आ॒पस् पुत्रासो अभि॒ सं॒ विशध्वम् इमं॒ जीवं॒ जीवधन्याः समे॒त्य ।
ता॒सां भजध्वम् अमृ॒तं य॒म् आहु॒र् ओदनं॒ प॒चति वां ज॒नित्री ॥४॥

ā́pas putrāso abhí sáṃ viśadhvam imáṃ jīváṃ jīvadhanyāḥ samétya |
tā́sāṃ bhajadhvam amŕ̥taṃ yám āhúr odanáṃ pácati vāṃ jánitrī ||4||

О сыновья, устройтесь у воды,
Собравшись у этого живого, о вы, богатые жизнью!
У этих (вод) вкусите вы то, что называют бессмертным, —
Рисовую кашу, которую вам двоим варит ваша родительница.

Do ye, O sons, unite you with the waters, meeting this living
man, ye life-sustainers,
Allot to them the Odana your mother is making ready, which
they call immortal.

Around the water united, sit ye down, O children; around this living (father) and the waters that refresh the living! Partake of these (waters), and of that porridge which the mother of you two cooks, and which is called amrita (ambrosia)!

avś_12.003.05.

यं॒ वां पिता॒ प॒चति यं॒ च माता॒ रिप्रा॒न् नि॒र्मुक्त्यै श॒मलाच् च वाचः॒ ।
स॒ ओदनः॒ शत॒धारः स्वर्ग॒ उभे॒ व्य् आ॑प न॒भसी महित्वा॒ ॥५॥

yáṃ vāṃ pitā́ pácati yáṃ ca mātā́ riprā́n nírmuktyai śámalāc ca vācáḥ |
sá odanáḥ śatádhāraḥ svargá ubhé vy ā̀pa nábhasī mahitvā́ ||5||

(То), что варит ваш отец и что мать
Для избавления от осквернения и загрязнения речи,
Эта рисовая каша в сто потоков, идущая на небо,
Великолепно овладела обоими (мировыми) пространствами.

That which your mother and your sire, to banish sin and un-
cleanness from their lips, are cooking.
That Odana with hundred streams, sky-reaching, hath in its
might prevaded earth and heaven.

The porridge which the father of you two, and which the mother cooks, unto freedom from defilement and foulness of speech, that porridge with a hundred streams (of ghee), leading to heaven, has penetrated with might both the hemispheres of the world.

avś_12.003.06.

उभे॒ न॒भसी उभ॒यांश् च लोका॒न् ये॒ य॒ज्वनाम् अभि॒जिताः स्वर्गाः॒ ।
ते॒षां ज्यो॒तिष्मान् म॒धुमान् यो॒ अ॒ग्रे त॒स्मिन् पुत्रै॒र् जर॒सि सं॒ श्रयेथाम् ॥६॥

ubhé nábhasī ubháyāṃś ca lokā́n yé yájvanām abhíjitāḥ svargā́ḥ |
téṣāṃ jyótiṣmān mádhumān yó ágre tásmin putráir jarási sáṃ śrayethām ||6||

Оба (мировых) пространства и миры обоего рода,
(Те), ведущие на небо, что покорены жертвователями, —
Который из них с начала полон света, полон меда,
В нем вы двое соединяйтесь в старости с сыновьями!

Live with your sons, when life on earth is ended, live in the
sphere most rich in light and sweetness.
In skies that have been won by sacrificers make both the worlds,
earth, heaven, your habitation.

In that one of the two hemispheres and the two heavenly worlds, conquered by the pious, which especially abounds in light, and is rich in honey, in that do ye in the fulness of time come together with your children!

avś_12.003.07.

प्रा॒चींप्राचीं प्रदि॒शम् आ॒ रभेथाम् एतं॒ लोकं॒ श्रद्द॒धानाः सचन्ते ।
य॒द् वां पक्वं॒ प॒रिविष्टम् अग्नौ॒ त॒स्य गु॒प्तये दंपती सं॒ श्रयेथाम् ॥७॥

prā́cīṃprācīṃ pradíśam ā́ rabhethām etáṃ lokáṃ śraddádhānāḥ sacante |
yád vāṃ pakváṃ páriviṣṭam agnáu tásya gúptaye daṃpatī sáṃ śrayethām ||7||

Держитесь только восточной стороны —
К этому миру привязываются имеющие веру.
Что вашего сварено, приготовлено в огне —
Соединяйтесь, о супруги, для его сохранения!

Approach the eastern, yea: the eastern region, this is the
sphere to which the faithful turn them,
Your cooked oblation that in fire was offered, together, wife and
husband, meet to guard it.

Keep ever on in an easterly direction: this is the region that the faithful cling to! When your cooked porridge has been prepared on the fire, hold together, O man and wife, that ye may guard it!

avś_12.003.08.

द॒क्षिणां दि॒शम् अभि॒ न॒क्षमाणौ पर्या॒वर्तेथाम् अभि॒ पा॒त्रम् एत॒त् ।
त॒स्मिन् वां यमः॒ पितृ॒भिः संविदानः॒ पक्वा॒य श॒र्म बहुलं॒ नि॒ यछात् ॥८॥

dákṣiṇāṃ díśam abhí nákṣamāṇau paryā́vartethām abhí pā́tram etát |
tásmin vāṃ yamáḥ pitŕ̥bhiḥ saṃvidānáḥ pakvā́ya śárma bahuláṃ ní yachāt ||8||

Достигая южной стороны,
Повернитесь вы двое к этому сосуду.
В нем Яма, согласный с отцами,
Дарует вам обильную защиту сваренного.

Now, as your steps approach the southern quarter, move in.
your circling course about this vessel.
Herein, accordant with the Fathers, Yama shall mightily protect
your cooked oblation.

When ye shall have reached the southerly direction, turn ye to this vessel! In that Yama, associated with the fathers, shall give abundant protection to your cooked porridge!

avś_12.003.09.

प्रती॒ची दिशा॒म् इय॒म् इ॒द् व॒रं य॒स्यां सो॒मो अधिपा॒ मृडिता॒ च ।
त॒स्यां श्रयेथां सुकृ॒तः सचेथाम् अ॒धा पक्वा॒न् मिथुना सं॒ भवाथः ॥९॥

pratī́cī diśā́m iyám íd váraṃ yásyāṃ sómo adhipā́ mr̥ḍitā́ ca |
tásyāṃ śrayethāṃ sukŕ̥taḥ sacethām ádhā pakvā́n mithunā sáṃ bhavāthaḥ ||9||

Из сторон света эта западная — лучшее,
(Она та), в которой Сома — верховный владыка и заступник.
К ней прибегните вы двое! Примкните к благодетелям!
Затем, о объединенные в пару, из приготовленного вы возникаете (снова).

Best of the regions is indeed this western wherein the King and
gracious Lord is Soma.
Thither resort for rest, follow the pious. Then gain the laden
chargers, O ye couple.

This westerly direction is especially favoured: in it Soma is ruler and consoler. To this hold, attach yourselves to the pious: then as a pair ye shall rise from the cooked porridge!

avś_12.003.10.

उ॒त्तरं राष्ट्रं॒ प्रज॒योत्तरा॒वद् दिशा॒म् उ॒दीची कृणवन् नो अ॒ग्रम् ।
पा॒ङ्क्तं छ॒न्दः पु॒रुषो बभूव वि॒श्वैर् विश्वाङ्गैः॒ सह॒ सं॒ भवेम ॥१०॥ {१३}

úttaraṃ rāṣṭráṃ prajáyottarā́vad diśā́m údīcī kr̥ṇavan no ágram |
pā́ṅktaṃ chándaḥ púruṣo babhūva víśvair viśvāṅgáiḥ sahá sáṃ bhavema ||10|| {13}

Высшая власть, устремленная ввысь благодаря потомству,
Пусть северная из сторон света создаст нам вершину!
Человек стал (стихотворным) размером из пяти частей.
Пусть возникнем мы вместе со всеми, у кого есть все члены (тела)!

Ever victorious is the northern region: may the east quarter set
us first and foremost.
The Man became the five-divisioned metre. May we abide wit .
all our members perfect.

The northerly direction shall make our realm the very uppermost, in offspring, uppermost! The purusha is the metre pahkti: with all (our kin), endowed with all their limbs, may we be united!

avś_12.003.11.

ध्रुवे॒यं॒ विरा॒ण् न॒मो अस्त्व् अस्यै॒ शिवा॒ पुत्रे॒भ्य उत॒ म॒ह्यम् अस्तु ।
सा॒ नो देव्य् अदिते विश्ववार इ॒र्य इव गोपा॒ अभि॒ रक्ष पक्व॒म् ॥११॥

dhruvéyáṃ virā́ṇ námo astv asyái śivā́ putrébhya utá máhyam astu |
sā́ no devy adite viśvavāra írya iva gopā́ abhí rakṣa pakvám ||11||

Эта прочная (сторона света) — Вирадж. Да будет ей поклонение!
Да будет она благосклонна к сыновьям и ко мне!
О богиня Адити, обладающая всем ценным,
Как предприимчивый пастух, охраняй нашу сваренную (жертву)!

This stedfast realm is Queen. To her be homage! To me and
to my sons may she be gracious.
Guard thou, O Goddess Aditi, all-bounteous, our cooked oblation
as an active warder.

This 'firm' direction (nadir) is Virāg (brilliancy): reverence be to her; may she be kind to my children and to me! Mayest thou, O goddess Aditi, who boldest all treasures, as an alert guardian guard the cooked porridge!

avś_12.003.12.

पिते॒व पुत्रा॒न् अभि॒ सं॒ स्वजस्व नः शिवा॒ नो वा॒ता इह॒ वान्तु भू॒मौ ।
य॒म् ओदनं॒ प॒चतो देव॒ते इह॒ तं॒ नस् त॒प उत॒ सत्यं॒ च वेत्तु ॥१२॥

pitéva putrā́n abhí sáṃ svajasva naḥ śivā́ no vā́tā ihá vāntu bhū́mau |
yám odanáṃ pácato deváte ihá táṃ nas tápa utá satyáṃ ca vettu ||12||

Обними нас, как отец сыновей!
Пусть благоприятные ветры веют нам здесь на земле!
(Та) рисовая каша, которую два божества здесь варят,
Пусть знает она наше покаяние, а также истину!

Embrace us as a father clasps his children. Here on the Earth
let kindly breezes fan us.
Let the rice-mess these two cook here, O Goddess, know this
our truthfulness and zealous fervour.

As a father his children do thou, (O earth), embrace us; may gentle winds blow upon us here on earth! Then the porridge which the two divinities (the sacrificer and his wife) are here preparing for us shall take note of our religious fer~our and our truth!

avś_12.003.13.

य॒द्यद् कृष्णः॒ शकुन॒ ए॒ह॒ गत्वा॒ त्स॒रन् वि॒षक्तं बि॒ल आससा॒द ।
य॒द् वा दास्य् आ॑र्द्र॒हस्ता समङ्क्त॒ उलू॒खलं मु॒सलं शुम्भतापः ॥१३॥

yádyad kr̥ṣṇáḥ śakuná éhá gatvā́ tsáran víṣaktaṃ bíla āsasā́da |
yád vā dāsy ā̀rdráhastā samaṅktá ulū́khalaṃ músalaṃ śumbhatāpaḥ ||13||

Если черная птица, прилетев сюда,
Украдкой села на край (ступки, чтобы клевать) прилипшее,
Или же если испачкала женщина из дасов с мокрыми руками —
О воды, очистите ступку и пестик!

If the dark bird hath come to us and, stealing the hanging. .
morsel, settled in his dwelling,
Or if the slave-girl hath, wet-handed, smearing the pestle and
the mortar, cleansed the waters,

Whatever the black bird, that has come hither stealthily, has touched of that ahich has stuck to the rim, or whatever the wet-banded slavegirl does pollute-may ye, O waters, purify (that) mortar and pestle!

avś_12.003.14.

अयं॒ ग्रा॒वा पृथु॒बुध्नो वयोधाः॒ पूतः॒ पवि॒त्रैर् अ॒प हन्तु र॒क्षः ।
आ॒ रोह च॒र्म म॒हि श॒र्म यछ मा॒ दं॒पती पौ॒त्रम् अघं॒ नि॒ गाताम् ॥१४॥

ayáṃ grā́vā pr̥thúbudhno vayodhā́ḥ pūtáḥ pavítrair ápa hantu rákṣaḥ |
ā́ roha cárma máhi śárma yacha mā́ dáṃpatī páutram agháṃ ní gātām ||14||

Пусть этот давильный камень с широким основанием, дающий силу,
Очищенный цедилками, убьет ракшаса!
Поднимайся на шкуру! Даруй великую защиту!
Пусть супруги не попадут в беду, вызванную сыновьями!

This pressing-stone, broad-based and strength-bestowing, made
pure by cleansing means, shall chase the demon.
Mount on the skin: afford us great protection, Let not the sons'
sin fall on wife and husband.

May this sturdy press-stone, with broad bottom, purified by the purifiers, beat away the Rakshas! Settle upon the skin, afford firm protection; may man and wife not come to grief in their children!

avś_12.003.15.

व॒नस्प॒तिः सह॒ देवै॒र् न आ॒गन् र॒क्षः पिशाचां॒ अपबा॒धमानः ।
स॒ उ॒च् छ्रयातै प्र॒ वदाति वा॒चं ते॒न लोकां॒ अभि॒ स॒र्वान् जयेम ॥१५॥

vánaspátiḥ sahá deváir na ā́gan rákṣaḥ piśācā́m̐ apabā́dhamānaḥ |
sá úc chrayātai prá vadāti vā́caṃ téna lokā́m̐ abhí sárvān jayema ||15||

Лесное дерево пришло к нам вместе с богами,
Оттесняя ракшаса (и) пишачей.
Оно распрямится, подаст голос.
Пусть мы завоюем миры с его помощью!

Together with the Gods, banning Pis5chas and demons, hath
Vanaspati come hither.
He shall rise up and send his voice out loudly. May we win all
the worlds with him to help us.

The (pestle of) wood has come to us together with the gods: it drives away the Rakshas and Pisākas. Up it shall rise, shall let its voice resound through it let us conquer all the worlds!

avś_12.003.16.

सप्त॒ मे॒धान् पश॒वः प॒र्य् अगृह्णन् य॒ एषां ज्यो॒तिष्मां उत॒ य॒श् चक॒र्श ।
त्र॒यस्त्रिंशद् देव॒तास् ता॒न्त् सचन्ते स॒ नः स्वर्ग॒म् अभि॒ नेष लोक॒म् ॥१६॥

saptá médhān paśávaḥ páry agr̥hṇan yá eṣāṃ jyótiṣmām̐ utá yáś cakárśa |
tráyastriṃśad devátās tā́nt sacante sá naḥ svargám abhí neṣa lokám ||16||

(Жертвенные) животные заключили в себе семь живительных соков,
Среди них (то), которое полно света и которое исхудало.
Тридцать три божества присоединяются к ним.
Отведи нас в небесный мир!

Seven victims held the sacrificial essence, the bright one and the
one that hath grown feeble.
The three-and-thirty Deities attend them. As such, conduct us
io the world of Svarga.

The cattle clothed itself in sevenfold strength, those among them that are sleek and those that are poor. The thirty-three gods attend them mayest thou, (O cattle), guide us to the heavenly world!

avś_12.003.17.

स्वर्गं॒ लोक॒म् अभि॒ नो नयासि सं॒ जाय॒या सह॒ पुत्रैः॒ स्याम ।
गृह्णा॒मि ह॒स्तम् अ॒नु मै॒त्व् अ॒त्र मा॒ नस् तारीन् नि॒रृतिर् मो॒ अ॒रातिः ॥१७॥

svargáṃ lokám abhí no nayāsi sáṃ jāyáyā sahá putráiḥ syāma |
gr̥hṇā́mi hástam ánu máitv átra mā́ nas tārīn nírr̥tir mó árātiḥ ||17||

Ты отведешь нас в небесный мир.
Пусть будем мы (там) вместе с женой и сыновьями!
Я беру (ее) за руку. Пусть последует она туда за мной!
Да не овладеет нами ни беззаконие, ни скупость!

Unto the world of Svarga shalt thou lead us: there may we dwell
beside our wife and children.
I take thy hand Let not Destruction, let not Malignity come
hither and subdue us.

To the bright world of heaven thou shalt lead us; (there) let us be united with wife and children! I take her hand, may she follow me there; neither Nirriti (destruction), nor Arāti (grudge), shall gain mastery over us!

avś_12.003.18.

ग्रा॒हिं पाप्मा॒नम् अ॒ति तां॒ अयाम त॒मो व्य् अ॑स्य प्र॒ वदासि वल्गु॒ ।
वानस्पत्य॒ उ॒द्यतो मा॒ जिहिंसीर् मा॒ तण्डुलं॒ वि॒ शरीर् देवय॒न्तम् ॥१८॥

grā́hiṃ pāpmā́nam áti tā́m̐ ayāma támo vy àsya prá vadāsi valgú |
vānaspatyá údyato mā́ jihiṃsīr mā́ taṇḍuláṃ ví śarīr devayántam ||18||

Грахи, зло — пусть пройдем мы мимо них!
Рассей мрак! Пусть говоришь ты приятное!
Сделанный из дерева, не повреди, когда (тебя) поднимают!
Не разбей на куски рисовое зерно, любящее богов!

We have subdued that sinful-hearted Grāhi. Thou shalt speak
sweetly having chased the darkness.
Let not the wooden gear made ready fail us, nor harm the grain
of rice that pays due worship.

May we get past the evil Grāhi (seizure)! Casting aside darkness do thou, (O pestle), let thy lovely voice resound; do not, O wooden tool, when raised, do injury; do not mutilate the grain devoted to the gods!

avś_12.003.19.

विश्व॒व्यचा घृत॒पृष्ठो भविष्य॒न्त् स॒योनिर् लोक॒म् उ॒प याह्य् एत॒म् ।
वर्ष॒वृद्धम् उ॒प यछ शू॒र्पं तु॒षं पला॒वान् अ॒प त॒द् विनक्तु ॥१९॥

viśvávyacā ghr̥tápr̥ṣṭho bhaviṣyánt sáyonir lokám úpa yāhy etám |
varṣávr̥ddham úpa yacha śū́rpaṃ túṣaṃ palā́vān ápa tád vinaktu ||19||

Собираясь стать всеобъемлющим, жирноспинным,
Ты, имеющий то же происхождение, отправляйся в этот мир!
Возьми корзинку для провеивания, возросшую от дождя.
Пусть она отвеет шелуху (и) мякину!

Soon to be, decked with butter, all-embracing, come to this
world wherewith birth unites thee.
Seize thou the winnowing-fan which rains have nourished, and
let this separate the chaff and refuse.

All-embracing, about to be covered with ghee, enter, (O pot), as a co-dweller this space! — Take hold of the winnowing-basket, that has been grown by the rain: the spelt and the chaff it shall sift out!

avś_12.003.20.

त्र॒यो लोकाः॒ सं॒मिता ब्रा॒ह्मणेन द्यौ॒र् एवा॒सौ॒ पृथिव्य् अ॑न्त॒रिक्षम् ।
अंशू॒न् गृभीत्वा॒न्वा॒रभेथाम् आ॒ प्यायन्तां पु॒नर् आ॒ यन्तु शू॒र्पम् ॥२०॥ {१४}

tráyo lokā́ḥ sáṃmitā brā́hmaṇena dyáur evā́sáu pr̥thivy àntárikṣam |
aṃśū́n gr̥bhītvā́nvā́rabhethām ā́ pyāyantāṃ púnar ā́ yantu śū́rpam ||20|| {14}

Три мира соразмерены с брахманом:
Вон то небо, земля, воздушное пространство.
Взяв стебли сомы, держитесь за них вы двое!
Пусть они снова набухнут (и) придут в корзину для провеивания!

Three worlds hath Power Divine marked out and measured,
Fheaven yonder, and the earth, and airs mid-region.
Grasp ye the stalks and in your hands retain them: let them be
watered and again be winnowed.

Three regions are constructed after the pattern of the Brāhmana: yonder heaven, the earth, and the atmosphere. — Take the (soma-) shoots, and hold one another, (O man and wife)! They (the shoots) shall swell (with moisture), and again go back into the winnowing-basket!

avś_12.003.21.

पृ॒थग् रूपा॒णि बहुधा॒ पशूना॒म् ए॒करूपो भवसि सं॒ स॒मृद्ध्या ।
एतां॒ त्व॒चं लो॒हिनीं तां॒ नुदस्व ग्रा॒वा शुम्भाति मलग॒ इव व॒स्त्रा ॥२१॥

pŕ̥thag rūpā́ṇi bahudhā́ paśūnā́m ékarūpo bhavasi sáṃ sámr̥ddhyā |
etā́ṃ tvácaṃ lóhinīṃ tā́ṃ nudasva grā́vā śumbhāti malagá iva vástrā ||21||

Много отдельных видов животных.
С успехом ты станешь обладать одной формой.
Эту красную шкуру — ее отбрось!
Пусть давильный камень очистит, как стиральщик (?) — одежды.

Manifold, various are the shapes of victims. Thou growest uni-
form by great abundance.
Push thou away this skin of ruddy colour: the stone will cleanse
as one who cleanses raiment.

Of manifold variegated colours are the animals, one colour hast thou, (O porridge), when successfully prepared. — Push these (soma-) Shoots upon this red skin; the press-stone shall purify them as the washer-man his clothes!

avś_12.003.22.

पृथिवीं॒ त्वा पृथिव्या॒म् आ॒ वेशयामि तनूः॒ समानी॒ वि॒कृता त एषा॒ ।
य॒द्यद् द्युत्तं॒ लिखित॒म् अ॒र्पणेन ते॒न मा॒ सुस्रोर् ब्र॒ह्मणा॒पि त॒द् वपामि ॥२२॥

pr̥thivī́ṃ tvā pr̥thivyā́m ā́ veśayāmi tanū́ḥ samānī́ víkr̥tā ta eṣā́ |
yádyad dyuttáṃ likhitám árpaṇena téna mā́ susror bráhmaṇā́pi tád vapāmi ||22||

Тебя, землю, я влагаю в землю.
Это такое же твое тело, (только) видоизмененное.
Все, что от толчка отломано и поцарапано,
Не протекай из-за этого — я перекрою это с помощью заговора.

Earth upon earth l set thee. This thy body is con-substantial,.
but in form it differs.
Whate'er hath been worn off or scratched in fixing, leak not
thereat: I spread a charm to mend it.

Thee, the (pot of) earth, I place upon the earth: your substance is the same, though thine, (O pot), is modified. Even though a blow has cracked or scratched thee, do not therefore burst: with this verse do I cover that up!

avś_12.003.23.

ज॒नित्रीव प्र॒ति हर्यासि सूनुं॒ सं॒ त्वा दधामि पृथिवीं॒ पृथिव्या॒ ।
उखा॒ कुम्भी॒ वे॒द्यां मा॒ व्यथिष्ठा यज्ञायुधै॒र् आ॒ज्येना॒तिषक्ता ॥२३॥

jánitrīva práti haryāsi sūnúṃ sáṃ tvā dadhāmi pr̥thivī́ṃ pr̥thivyā́ |
ukhā́ kumbhī́ védyāṃ mā́ vyathiṣṭhā yajñāyudháir ā́jyenā́tiṣaktā ||23||

Пусть принимаешь ты, как родительница сына.
Тебя, землю, я соединяю с землей.
Посуда, котелок, не качайся на алтаре,
Слишком увешанная предметами для принесения жертв (и переполненная) жертвенным маслом!

Thou for thy son shalt yearn as yearns a mother. I lay thee
down and with the earth unite thee.
Conjoined with sacrificial gear and butter may pot and jar stand
firmly on the altar.

Gently as a mother embrace the son: I unite thee, (pot of) earth, with the earth! Mayest thou, the hollow pot, not totter upon the altar, when thou art pressed by the tools of sacrifice and the ghee!

avś_12.003.24.

अग्निः॒ प॒चन् रक्षतु त्वा पुर॒स्ताद् इ॒न्द्रो रक्षतु दक्षिणतो॒ मरु॒त्वान् ।
व॒रुणस् त्वा दृंहाद् धरु॒णे प्रती॒च्या उत्तरा॒त् त्वा सो॒मः सं॒ ददातै ॥२४॥

agníḥ pácan rakṣatu tvā purástād índro rakṣatu dakṣiṇató marútvān |
váruṇas tvā dr̥ṃhād dharúṇe pratī́cyā uttarā́t tvā sómaḥ sáṃ dadātai ||24||

Агни, варя, пусть охраняет тебя с востока,
Индра с Марутами пусть охраняет с юга,
Варуна пусть укрепит тебя в области западной (стороны),
Сома пусть удерживает тебя с севера!

Eastward may Agni as he cooks preserve thee. Southward may
Indra, grit by Maruts, guard thee,
Varuna strengthen and support thee westward, and Soma on
the north hold thee together.

May Agni who cooks thee protect thee on the east, Indra with the Maruts protect thee on the south! May Varuna on the west support thee upon thy foundation, may Soma on the north hold thee together!

avś_12.003.25.

पूताः॒ पवि॒त्रैः पवन्ते अभ्रा॒द् दि॒वं च य॒न्ति पृथिवीं॒ च लोका॒न् ।
ता॒ जीवला॒ जीव॒धन्याः प्रतिष्ठाः॒ पा॒त्र आ॒सिक्ताः प॒र्य् अग्नि॒र् इन्धाम् ॥२५॥

pūtā́ḥ pavítraiḥ pavante abhrā́d dívaṃ ca yánti pr̥thivī́ṃ ca lokā́n |
tā́ jīvalā́ jīvádhanyāḥ pratiṣṭhā́ḥ pā́tra ā́siktāḥ páry agnír indhām ||25||

Очищенные цедилками, они очищаются (выливаясь) из тучи.
На небо идут они и на землю, в (свои) миры.
Они живые, богатые жизнью, твердо стоящие,
Налитые в сосуд. Пусть Агни зажжется вокруг (них)!

Drops flow, made pure by filters, from the rain-cloud: to heaven
and earth and to the worlds they travel,
May Indra light them up, poured in the vessel, lively and sted-
fast, quickening living creatures.

Purified by the purifiers, the (waters) flow pure from the clouds, they reach to the spaces of heaven, and of the earth. They are alive, refresh the livino, and are firmly rooted: may Agni heat them, after they have been poured into the vessel!

avś_12.003.26.

आ॒ यन्ति दिवः॒ पृथिवीं॒ सचन्ते भू॒म्याः सचन्ते अ॒ध्य् अन्त॒रिक्षम् ।
शुद्धाः॒ सती॒स् ता॒ उ शुम्भन्त एव॒ ता॒ नः स्वर्ग॒म् अभि॒ लोकं॒ नयन्तु ॥२६॥

ā́ yanti diváḥ pr̥thivī́ṃ sacante bhū́myāḥ sacante ádhy antárikṣam |
śuddhā́ḥ satī́s tā́ u śumbhanta evá tā́ naḥ svargám abhí lokáṃ nayantu ||26||

Они приходят с неба. Они укрепляются на земле.
С земли они укрепляются в воздушном пространстве.
Будучи чистыми, они еще себя очищают.
Пусть они отведут нас в небесный мир!

From heaven they come, they visit earth, and rising from earth
unite themselves with air's mid-region,
Purified, excellent, they with shine in beauty. Thus may they lead us
to the world of Svarga.

From heaven they come, into the earth they penetrate; from the earth they penetrate into the atmosphere. May they, now pure, yet purify themselves further; may they conduct us to the heavenly world!

avś_12.003.27.

उते॒व प्रभ्वी॒र् उत॒ सं॒मितास उत॒ शुक्राः॒ शु॒चयश् चामृ॒तासः ।
ता॒ ओदनं॒ दं॒पतिभ्यां प्र॒शिष्टा आ॒पः शि॒क्षन्तीः पचता सुनाथाः ॥२७॥

utéva prabhvī́r utá sáṃmitāsa utá śukrā́ḥ śúcayaś cāmŕ̥tāsaḥ |
tā́ odanáṃ dáṃpatibhyāṃ práśiṣṭā ā́paḥ śíkṣantīḥ pacatā sunāthāḥ ||27||

Одновременно выдающиеся и размеренные,
А также светлые, чистые и бессмертные —
О воды, направленные (и) желающие помочь,
Готовьте рисовую кашу для супругов, (вы), доброе прибежище!

Yea, and supreme, alike in conformation, and brilliant and
refulgent and immortal,
As such, enjoined, well-guarding, water-givers, dress ye the
Odana for wife and husband.

Whether ye are over-abundant or just sufficient, ye are surely clear, pure, and immortal: cook, ye waters, instructed by the husband and wife, obliging and helpful, the porridge!

avś_12.003.28.

सं॒ख्याता स्तोकाः॒ पृथिवीं॒ सचन्ते प्राणापानैः॒ सं॒मिता ओ॒षधीभिः ।
अ॒संख्याता ओप्य॒मानाः सुव॒र्णाः स॒र्वं व्या॑पुः शु॒चयः शुचित्व॒म् ॥२८॥

sáṃkhyātā stokā́ḥ pr̥thivī́ṃ sacante prāṇāpānáiḥ sáṃmitā óṣadhībhiḥ |
ásaṃkhyātā opyámānāḥ suvárṇāḥ sárvaṃ vyā̀puḥ śúcayaḥ śucitvám ||28||

Считанные капли пристают к земле,
Соотнесенные со вдохами и выдохами, с травами.
Несосчитанные, рассеянные, прекрасного цвета,
Чистые, они достигли полной чистоты.

Numbered, they visit earth, these drops of moisture, commensu-
rate with plants and vital breathings,
Unnumbered, scattered, beautiful in colour, the bright, ones
have pervaded all refulgence.

Counted drops penetrate into the earth, commensurate with the breaths of life and the plants. The uncounted golden (drops), that are poured into (the porridge), have, (themselves) pure, established complete purity.

avś_12.003.29.

उ॒द् योधन्त्य् अभि॒ वल्गन्ति तप्ताः॒ फे॒नम् अस्यन्ति बहुलां॒श् च बिन्दू॒न् ।
यो॒षेव दृष्ट्वा॒ प॒तिम् ऋ॒त्वियायैतै॒स् तण्डुलै॒र् भवता स॒म् आपः ॥२९॥

úd yodhanty abhí valganti taptā́ḥ phénam asyanti bahulā́ṃś ca bindū́n |
yóṣeva dr̥ṣṭvā́ pátim ŕ̥tviyāyaitáis taṇḍuláir bhavatā sám āpaḥ ||29||

Нагретые, они бурлят, подскакивают,
Выбрасывают пену и множество пузырьков.
Как женщина, готовая к зачатию, при виде мужа,
Соединитесь, о воды, с этими зернами риса!

Heated, they rage and boil in agitation, they cast about their
foam and countless bubbles
Like a fond woman when she sees her husband—what time ye
waters and these rice-grains mingle,

The boiling waters rise and sputter, cast up foam and many bubbles. Unite, ye waters, with this grain, as a woman who beholds her husband in the proper season!

avś_12.003.30.

उ॒त् थापय सी॒दतो बुध्न॒ एनान् अद्भि॒र् आत्मा॒नम् अभि॒ सं॒ स्पृशन्ताम् ।
अ॒मासि पा॒त्रैर् उदकं॒ य॒द् एत॒न् मिता॒स् तण्डुलाः॒ प्रदि॒शो य॒दीमाः॒ ॥३०॥ {१५}

út thāpaya sī́dato budhná enān adbhír ātmā́nam abhí sáṃ spr̥śantām |
ámāsi pā́trair udakáṃ yád etán mitā́s taṇḍulā́ḥ pradíśo yádīmā́ḥ ||30|| {15}

Сделай, чтобы они поднялись, когда они сидят на дне.
Пусть они целиком соприкасаются с водами!
Я измерил сосудами воду, которая здесь.
Измерены зерна риса, так как они — стороны света.

Take up these rice-grains lying at the bottom: led them be blent
and mingled with the waters.
This water I have measured in the vessel, if as mid-points the
rice-grains have been meted.

Stir up (the grains) as they settle at the bottom: let them mingle their inmost parts with the waters! The water here I have measured with cups; measured was the grain, so as to be according to these regulations.

avś_12.003.31.

प्र॒ यछ प॒र्शुं त्वर॒या॒ हरौस॒म् अ॒हिंसन्त ओ॒षधीर् दान्तु प॒र्वन् ।
वा॒सां सो॒मः प॒रि राज्यं॑ बभू॒वा॒मन्युता नो वीरु॒धो भवन्तु ॥३१॥

prá yacha párśuṃ tvaráyā́ harausám áhiṃsanta óṣadhīr dāntu párvan |
vā́sāṃ sómaḥ pári rājyàṃ babhū́vā́manyutā no vīrúdho bhavantu ||31||

Протяни серп! Поспеши, быстро возьми!
Пусть они отрежут травы по суставу, не принося вреда!
(Те), у кого Сома правит царством,
Пусть растения не гневаются на нас!

Present the sickle: quickly bring it hither. Let them out plants
and joints with hands that harm not.
So may the plants be free from wrath against us, they o'er
whose realm Soma hath won dominion.

Hand over the sickle, with haste bring promptly (the grass for the barhis); without giving pain let them cut the plants at the joints! They whose kingdom Soma rules, the plants, shall not harbour anger against us!

avś_12.003.32.

न॒वं बर्हि॒र् ओदना॒य स्तृणीत प्रियं॒ हृद॒श् च॒क्षुषो वल्ग्व् अ॑स्तु ।
त॒स्मिन् देवाः॒ सह॒ दैवी॒र् विशन्त्व् इमं॒ प्रा॒श्नन्त्व् ऋतु॒भिर् निष॒द्य ॥३२॥

návaṃ barhír odanā́ya str̥ṇīta priyáṃ hr̥dáś cákṣuṣo valgv àstu |
tásmin devā́ḥ sahá daivī́r viśantv imáṃ prā́śnantv r̥túbhir niṣádya ||32||

Новую жертвенную солому расстелите для рисовой каши!
Пусть будет она близкой для сердца, приятной для глаз!
Пусть на ней устроятся вместе боги и божественные (жены)!
Усевшись, пусть они это вкушают в положенное время!

Strew ye fresh grass for the boiled rice to rest on: fair let it be,
sweet to the eye and spirit.
Hither come Goddesses with Gods, and sitting here taste in
proper season this oblation.

Strew a new barhis for the porridge: pleasing to its heart, and lovely to its sight it shall be! Upon it the gods together with the goddesses shall enter; settle down to this (porridge) in proper order, and eat it!

avś_12.003.33.

व॒नस्पते स्तीर्ण॒म् आ॒ सीद बर्हि॒र् अग्निष्टोभैः॒ सं॒मितो देव॒ताभिः ।
त्व॒ष्ट्रेव रूपं॒ सु॒कृतं स्व॒धित्यैना॒ एहाः॒ प॒रि पा॒त्रे ददृश्राम् ॥३३॥

vánaspate stīrṇám ā́ sīda barhír agniṣṭobháiḥ sáṃmito devátābhiḥ |
tváṣṭreva rūpáṃ súkr̥taṃ svádhityainā́ ehā́ḥ pári pā́tre dadr̥śrām ||33||

О лесное дерево, садись на расстеленную жертвенную солому,
В соответствии с (обрядами) агништома (и) божествами!
Твоя форма хорошо сделана топором, словно Тваштар (ее делал).
И вот в сосуде пусть покажутся (?) желающие!

On the strewn grass. Vanaspati, be seated; commensurate with
Gods and Agnishtomas.
Let thy fair form, wrought as by Tvashtar's hatchet, mark these
that yearn for thee within the vessel.

O (instrument of) wood, settle down upon the strewn barhis, in keeping with the divinities and the agnishloma rites! Well shaped, as if by a carpenter (Tvashtar) with his axe, is thy form. Longing for this (porridge) the (gods) shall be seen about the vessel!

avś_12.003.34.

षष्ट्यां॒ शर॒त्सु निधिपा॒ अभी॒छात् स्वः॑ पक्वे॒नाभ्य् अ॑श्नवातै ।
उ॒पैनं जीवान् पित॒रश् च पुत्रा॒ एतं॒ स्वर्गं॒ गमया॒न्तम् अग्नेः॒ ॥३४॥

ṣaṣṭyā́ṃ śarátsu nidhipā́ abhī́chāt svàḥ pakvénābhy àśnavātai |
úpainaṃ jīvān pitáraś ca putrā́ etáṃ svargáṃ gamayā́ntam agnéḥ ||34||

В шестьдесят осеней хранитель сокровища пусть ищет
Небо и достигнет его с помощью вареной (жертвы)!
Отцы и сыновья пусть живут благодаря ему!
Отправь этого (человека) на край костра, ведущий на небо!

In sixty autumns may the Treasure-Guardian seek to gain
heavenly light by cooked oblation.
On this may sons and fathers live dependent. Send thou this
mess to Fire that leads to heaven.

In sixty autumns the treasurer (of the porridge) shall fetch it, by the cooked grain he shall obtain heaven; the parents and the children shall live upon it. Bring thou this (man) to heaven, into the presence of Agni!

avś_12.003.35.

धर्ता॒ ध्रियस्व धरु॒णे पृथिव्या॒ अ॒च्युतं त्वा॒ देव॒ताश् च्यावयन्तु ।
तं॒ त्वा दं॒पती जी॒वन्तौ जीव॒पुत्राव् उ॒द् वासयातः प॒र्य् अग्निधा॒नात् ॥३५॥

dhartā́ dhriyasva dharúṇe pr̥thivyā́ ácyutaṃ tvā́ devátāś cyāvayantu |
táṃ tvā dáṃpatī jī́vantau jīváputrāv úd vāsayātaḥ páry agnidhā́nāt ||35||

(Сам) поддерживатель, держись за основание земли.
Тебя, непоколебимого, пусть приведут в колебание божества!
Пусть двое супругов, живых, с живыми сыновьями,
Извлекут тебя такого из очага Агни!

On the earth's breast stand firmly as supporter: may Deities
stir thee who ne'er hast shaken.
So living man and wife with living children remove thee from
the hearth of circling Agni.

(Thyself) a holder, (O pot), hold on to the foundation of the earth: thee, that art immoveable the gods (alone) shall move! Man and wife, alive, with living children, shall remove thee from the hearth of the fire!

avś_12.003.36.

स॒र्वान्त् समा॒गा अभिजि॒त्य लोका॒न् या॒वन्तः का॒माः स॒म् अतीतृपस् ता॒न् ।
वि॒ गाहेथाम् आय॒वनं च द॒र्विर् ए॒कस्मिन् पा॒त्रे अ॒ध्य् उ॒द् धरैनम् ॥३६॥

sárvānt samā́gā abhijítya lokā́n yā́vantaḥ kā́māḥ sám atītr̥pas tā́n |
ví gāhethām āyávanaṃ ca dárvir ékasmin pā́tre ádhy úd dharainam ||36||

Одержав победу, ты попал во все миры,
Сколько (ни на есть) желаний, ты их полностью удовлетворил.
Погружайтесь вы оба — мешалка и ложка!
Опрокиньте ее в один сосуд!

All wishes that have blessed those with fulfilment, having won
all the worlds have met together.
Let them plunge in both stirring-spoon and ladle: raise this and
set it in a single vessel.

Thou hast conquered and reached all worlds; as many as are our wishes, thou hast satisfied them. Dip ye in, stirring stick and spoon! Place it (the por idge) upon a single dish!

avś_12.003.37.

उ॒प स्तृणीहि प्रथ॒य पुर॒स्ताद् घृते॒न पा॒त्रम् अभि॒ घारयैत॒त् ।
वाश्रे॒वोस्रा॒ त॒रुणं स्तनस्यु॒म् इमं॒ देवासो अभिहि॒ङ्कृणोत ॥३७॥

úpa str̥ṇīhi pratháya purástād ghr̥téna pā́tram abhí ghārayaitát |
vāśrévosrā́ táruṇaṃ stanasyúm imáṃ devāso abhihíṅkr̥ṇota ||37||

Разбрызгай (жир), распространи (его) подальше,
Обмажь жиром этот сосуд!
Как мычащая корова навстречу теленку, жаждущему соска,
О боги, издайте (звук) «Хин!» для нее!

Pour out the covering butter, spread it eastward: sprinkle this
vessel over with the fatness.
Greet this, ye Deities, with gentle murmur, as lowing cows wel-
come their tender suckling.

Lay (ghee) upon it, let it spread forth, anoint this dish with ghee! As the lowing cow her young that craves the breast, ye gods shall greet with sounds of satisfaction this (porridge)!

avś_12.003.38.

उ॒पास्तरीर् अ॒करो लोक॒म् एत॒म् उरुः॒ प्रथताम् अ॒समः स्वर्गः॒ ।
त॒स्मिं छ्रयातै महिषः॒ सुपर्णो॒ देवा॒ एनं देव॒ताभ्यः प्र॒ यछान् ॥३८॥

úpāstarīr ákaro lokám etám urúḥ prathatām ásamaḥ svargáḥ |
tásmiṃ chrayātai mahiṣáḥ suparṇó devā́ enaṃ devátābhyaḥ prá yachān ||38||

Ты разбрызгал, ты создал этот мир.
Пусть распространится широкий несравненный мир света!
На нем будет покоиться могучий орел.
Боги даруют его божествам.

Thou hast poured oil and made the worlds: let heaven, unequal-
led, be spread out in wide extension.
Herein be cooked the buffalo, strong-pinioned: the Gods shall
give the Deities this oblation.

With ghee thou hast covered it, hast made this place (for the porridge): may it, peerless, spread afar to heaven! Upon it shall rest the mighty eagle; gods shall offer it to the divinities!

avś_12.003.39.

य॒द्यज् जाया॒ प॒चति त्व॒त् प॒रःपरः प॒तिर् वा जाये त्व॒त् तिरः॒ ।
सं॒ त॒त् सृजेथां सह॒ वां त॒द् अस्तु संपाद॒यन्तौ सह॒ लोक॒म् ए॒कम् ॥३९॥

yádyaj jāyā́ pácati tvát páraḥparaḥ pátir vā jāye tvát tiráḥ |
sáṃ tát sr̥jethāṃ sahá vāṃ tád astu saṃpādáyantau sahá lokám ékam ||39||

Что бы ни варила жена без тебя
Или же муж потихоньку от тебя, о жена,
Вы двое это смешайте. Пусть это будет для вас вместе!
Вы двое те, кто вместе создает один мир.

Whate'er thy wife, away from thee, makes ready, or what, O
wife, apart from thee, thy husband,
Combine it all: let it be yours in common while ye produce one
world with joint endeavour.

Whatever the wife cooks aside from thee, (O husband), or the husband (cooks) unbeknown of thee, O wife, mix that together: to both of you it shall belong; bring it together into a single place!

avś_12.003.40.

या॒वन्तो अस्याः॒ पृथिवीं॒ स॒चन्ते अस्म॒त् पुत्राः॒ प॒रि ये॒ संबभूवुः॒ ।
स॒र्वांस् तां॒ उ॒प पा॒त्रे ह्वयेथां ना॒भिं जानानाः॒ शि॒शवः समा॒यान् ॥४०॥ {१६}

yā́vanto asyā́ḥ pr̥thivī́ṃ sácante asmát putrā́ḥ pári yé saṃbabhūvúḥ |
sárvāṃs tā́m̐ úpa pā́tre hvayethāṃ nā́bhiṃ jānānā́ḥ śíśavaḥ samā́yān ||40|| {16}

Сколь многие у нее живут на земле,
(Те) сыновья, которые произошли от нас, —
Всех их вы призвали в (свой) сосуд.
Зная пуповину, дети собрались.

All these now dwelling on the earth, mine offspring, these whom,
this woman here, my wife, hath borne me,
Invite them all unto the vessel: knowing their kinship have the
children met together.

As many of her children as dwell upon the earth, and the sons that have been begotten by him, all those ye shall call up to the dish: on shall come the young knowing their nest!

avś_12.003.41.

व॒सोर् या॒ धा॒रा म॒धुना प्र॒पीना घृते॒न मिश्रा॒ अमृ॒तस्य ना॒भयः ।
स॒र्वास् ता॒ अ॒व रुन्धे स्वर्गः॒ षष्ट्यां॒ शर॒त्सु निधिपा॒ अभी॒छात् ॥४१॥

vásor yā́ dhā́rā mádhunā prápīnā ghr̥téna miśrā́ amŕ̥tasya nā́bhayaḥ |
sárvās tā́ áva rundhe svargáḥ ṣaṣṭyā́ṃ śarátsu nidhipā́ abhī́chāt ||41||

Какие (есть) потоки добра, набухшие от меда,
Смешанные с жиром, пуповины бессмертия, —
Их всех удерживает у себя идущий на небо.
В течение шестидесяти осеней пусть ищет (это) хранитель сокровища!

Swollen with savoury meath, the stream of treasures, sources of
immortality blent with fatness
Soma retains all these; in sixty autumns the Guardian Lord of
Treasures may desire them.

The goodly streams, swelling with honey, mixed with ghee, the seats of ambrosia, all these does he obtain, ascends to heaven. In sixty autumns the treasurer (of the porridge) shall fetch it!

avś_12.003.42.

निधिं॒ निधिपा॒ अभ्य् ए॑नम् इछाद् अ॒नीश्वरा अभि॒तः सन्तु ये॒ ऽन्ये॒ ।
अस्मा॒भिर् दत्तो॒ नि॒हितः स्वर्ग॒स् त्रिभिः॒ का॒ण्डैस् त्री॒न्त् स्वर्गा॒न् अरुक्षत् ॥४२॥

nidhíṃ nidhipā́ abhy ènam ichād ánīśvarā abhítaḥ santu yé 'nyé |
asmā́bhir dattó níhitaḥ svargás tribhíḥ kā́ṇḍais trī́nt svargā́n arukṣat ||42||

Хранитель сокровища пусть ищет это сокровище,
(А те), которые другие, пусть будут повсюду без господина!
Данная (и) положенная нами (рисовая каша), идущая на небо,
Тремя частями поднялась на три неба!

The Lord of Treasures may desire this treasure: lordless on.
every side be all the others.
Our mess, presented seeking heaven, hath mounted in three
divisions all three realms of Svarga.

The treasurer shall fetch this treasure: all outsiders round about shall not control it! The heaven-directed porridge, that has been presented and deposited by us, in three divisions has reached the thrte heavens.

avś_12.003.43.

अग्नी॒ र॒क्षस् तपतु य॒द् वि॒देवं क्रव्या॒द् पिशाच॒ इह॒ मा॒ प्र॒ पास्त ।
नुदा॒म एनम् अ॒प रुध्मो अस्म॒द् आदित्या॒ एनम् अ॒ङ्गिरसः सचन्ताम् ॥४३॥

agnī́ rákṣas tapatu yád vídevaṃ kravyā́d piśācá ihá mā́ prá pāsta |
nudā́ma enam ápa rudhmo asmád ādityā́ enam áṅgirasaḥ sacantām ||43||

Пусть Агни спалит ракшаса, который безбожен!
Пусть пожирающий мясо пишача не хлебнет (ни глотка)!
Мы отталкиваем его, отгоняем от нас.
Пусть преследуют его Адитьи, Ангирасы!

May Agni burn the God-denying demon: let no carnivorous.
Pis icha drink here.
We drive him off, we keep him at a distance. Ādityas and
Angirases pursue him!

May Agni burn the ungodly Rakshas; the flesh-devouring Pisāka shall have nothing here to partake of! We drive him away, hold him afar from us: the Ādityas and Angiras shall stay near it!

avś_12.003.44.

आदित्ये॒भ्यो अ॒ङ्गिरोभ्यो म॒ध्व् इदं॒ घृते॒न मिश्रं॒ प्र॒ति वेदयामि ।
शुद्ध॒हस्तौ ब्राह्मणस्या॒निहत्यैतं॒ स्वर्गं॒ सुकृताव् अ॒पीतम् ॥४४॥

ādityébhyo áṅgirobhyo mádhv idáṃ ghr̥téna miśráṃ práti vedayāmi |
śuddháhastau brāhmaṇasyā́nihatyaitáṃ svargáṃ sukr̥tāv ápītam ||44||

Адитьям (и) Ангирасам я сообщаю
Про этот мед, смешанный с жиром.
С чистыми руками, (ничего) не разоряя у брахмана,
Вы двое, о добродетельные, отправляйтесь в мир света!

This meath do I announce, mingled with butter, to the Angi-
rases and the Ādityas.
With pure hands ne'er laid roughly on a Brahman go, pious.
couple, to the world of Svarga.

To the Ādityas and the Angiras do I offer this (food of) honey, mixed with ghee. Do ye two, (man and wife), with clean hands, without having injured a Brāhmana, performing pious deeds, go to that heavenly world!

avś_12.003.45.

इदं॒ प्रा॒पम् उत्तमं॒ का॒ण्डम् अस्य य॒स्माल् लोका॒त् परमेष्ठी॒ समा॒प ।
आ॒ सिञ्च सर्पि॒र् घृत॒वत् स॒म् अङ्ग्ध्य् एष॒ भागो॒ अ॒ङ्गिरसो नो अ॒त्र ॥४५॥

idáṃ prā́pam uttamáṃ kā́ṇḍam asya yásmāl lokā́t parameṣṭhī́ samā́pa |
ā́ siñca sarpír ghr̥távat sám aṅgdhy eṣá bhāgó áṅgiraso no átra ||45||

Вот я достиг высшей части того мира,
Из которой Парамештхин добился всего.
Наливай расплавленное масло, обмазывай жиром!
Это доля Ангираса здесь у нас.

Of this have I obtained the noblest portion from that same
world whence Parmeshthin gained it.
Pour forth, besprinkle butter rich in fatness: the share of
Angiras is here before us.

I would obtain this highest part of it (the porridge), the place from which the highest lord permeates (the all). Pour butter upon it, anoint it witb plentiful ghee: this here is our share, fit for the Angiras!

avś_12.003.46.

सत्या॒य च त॒पसे देव॒ताभ्यो निधिं॒ शेवधिं॒ प॒रि दद्म एत॒म् ।
मा॒ नो द्यूते॒ ऽव गान् मा॒ स॒मित्यां मा॒ स्मान्य॒स्मा उ॒त् सृजता पुरा॒ म॒त् ॥४६॥

satyā́ya ca tápase devátābhyo nidhíṃ śevadhíṃ pári dadma etám |
mā́ no dyūté 'va gān mā́ sámityāṃ mā́ smānyásmā út sr̥jatā purā́ mát ||46||

Для истины, для покаяния, для божеств
Мы передаем это сокровище, драгоценность.
Да не пропадет это у нас ни при игре (в кости), ни в собрании!
Не отпустите это другому прежде, чем мне!

To Deities, to Truth, to holy Fervour this treasure we consign,.
this rich deposit,
At play, in meeting led it not desert us, never give out to anyone
besides me.

For the sake of truth and holy strength do we make over this porridge as a hoarded treasure to the gods: it shall not be lost to us in gaming or in the assembly; do not let it go to any other person before me!

avś_12.003.47.

अहं॒ पचाम्य् अहं॒ ददामि म॒मेद् उ क॒र्मन् करु॒णे॒ ऽधि जाया॒ ।
कौ॒मारो लोको॒ अजनिष्ट पुत्रो॑ ऽन्वा॒रभेथां व॒य उत्तरा॒वत् ॥४७॥

aháṃ pacāmy aháṃ dadāmi mámed u kárman karúṇé 'dhi jāyā́ |
káumāro lokó ajaniṣṭa putrò 'nvā́rabhethāṃ váya uttarā́vat ||47||

Я варю, я отдаю,
А также жена моя (в ответ) на (мое) деяние (и) обряд.
Родился сын — мир, свойственный юности.
Вы двое придерживайтесь времени жизни, для которого характерно высшее!

I cook the offering, I present oblation: only my wife attends
the holy service.
A youthful world, a son hath been begotten. Begin a life that
brings success and triumph.

I cook, and I give (to the Brahmans), and so, too, my wife, at my religious rite and practice. — With the birth of a son the world of children has arisen (for you): do ye two hold on to a life that extends beyond (your years)!

avś_12.003.48.

न॒ कि॒ल्बिषम् अ॒त्र ना॒धारो॒ अ॒स्ति न॒ य॒न् मित्रैः॒ सम॒ममान ए॒ति ।
अ॒नूनं पा॒त्रं नि॒हितं न एत॒त् पक्ता॒रं पक्वः॒ पु॒नर् आ॒ विशाति ॥४८॥

ná kílbiṣam átra nā́dhāró ásti ná yán mitráiḥ samámamāna éti |
ánūnaṃ pā́traṃ níhitaṃ na etát paktā́raṃ pakváḥ púnar ā́ viśāti ||48||

Здесь нет ни вины, ни основания (для вины),
Ни (даже) того, что он идет, договариваясь с друзьями.
Этот наш сосуд поставлен не пустой.
Сваренная (каша) вновь войдет в того, кто варил.

There is no fault in this, no reservation, none when it goes with
friends in close alliance.
We have laid down this vessel in perfection: the cooked mess
shall re-enter him who cooked it.

In that place exists no guilt, and no duplicity, not even if he goes conspiring with his friends. This full dish of ours has here been deposited: the cooked (porridge) shall come back again to him that cooks it!

avś_12.003.49.

प्रियं॒ प्रिया॒णां कृणवाम त॒मस् ते॒ यन्तु यतमे॒ द्विष॒न्ति ।
धेनु॒र् अनड्वा॒न् व॒योवय आय॒द् एव॒ पौ॒रुषेयम् अ॒प मृत्युं॒ नुदन्तु ॥४९॥

priyáṃ priyā́ṇāṃ kr̥ṇavāma támas té yantu yatamé dviṣánti |
dhenúr anaḍvā́n váyovaya āyád evá páuruṣeyam ápa mr̥tyúṃ nudantu ||49||

Пусть делаем мы приятное для тех, кто приятен.
Во мрак пусть отправятся те, которые (нас) ненавидят!
Дойная корова, тягловый бык, любая наступающая бодрость
Пусть оттолкнут смерть, связанную с человеком!

To those we love may we do acts that please them. Away to
darkness go all those who hate us!
Cow, ox, and strength of every kind approach us! Thus let
them banish death of human beings.

kind deeds we shall perform for our friends: all that hate us shall go to darkness (hell)! — As (fruitful) cow, and (strong) steer, they (man and wife) shall during, every successive period of their lives drive away man-besetting death!

avś_12.003.50.

स॒म् अग्न॒यः विदुर् अन्यो॒ अन्यं॒ य॒ ओ॒षधीः स॒चते य॒श् च सि॒न्धून् ।
या॒वन्तो देवा॒ दिव्य् आ॑त॒पन्ति हि॒रण्यं ज्यो॒तिः प॒चतो बभूव ॥५०॥ {१७}

sám agnáyaḥ vidur anyó anyáṃ yá óṣadhīḥ sácate yáś ca síndhūn |
yā́vanto devā́ divy ā̀tápanti híraṇyaṃ jyótiḥ pácato babhūva ||50|| {17}

Огни находятся в согласии, один с другим:
Который пребывает в травах и который в реках.
Сколько богов посылает жар на небе —
Золотом становится свет у того, кто варит.

Perfectly do the Agnis know each other, one visitor of plants
and one of rivers,
And all the Gods who shine and glow in heaven. Gold is the
light of him who cooks oblation.

The fires (all) know one another, that which lives in plants, and lives in the waters, and all the (light-) gods that glow upon the heaven. The gold (here) becomes the light of him that cooks (the porridge).

avś_12.003.51.

एषा॒ त्वचां॒ पु॒रुषे सं॒ बभूवा॒नग्नाः स॒र्वे पश॒वो ये॒ अन्ये॒ ।
क्षत्रे॒णात्मा॒नं प॒रि धापयाथो ऽमोतं॒ वा॒सो मु॒खम् ओदन॒स्य ॥५१॥

eṣā́ tvacā́ṃ púruṣe sáṃ babhūvā́nagnāḥ sárve paśávo yé anyé |
kṣatréṇātmā́naṃ pári dhāpayātho 'motáṃ vā́so múkham odanásya ||51||

Из (всех) шкур эта возникла у человека.
Не голые все животные, которые иные.
Заверните вы двое себя во власть.
Сотканная дома одежда — (это) лицо рисовой каши.

Man hath received this skin of his from nature: of other
animals not one is naked.
Ye make him clothe himself with might for raiment. Odana's
mouth is a home-woven vesture.

This (naked skin) among the hides is born upon man (alone), all other animals are riot naked. Clothe yourselves, (ye Brahmans), in sheltering garments: (even) the face of the porridge is a homespun garment!

avś_12.003.52.

य॒द् अक्षे॒षु व॒दा य॒त् स॒मित्यां य॒द् वा व॒दा अ॒नृतं वित्तकाम्या॒ ।
समानं॒ त॒न्तुम् अभि॒ सम्व॒सानौ त॒स्मिन्त् स॒र्वं श॒मलं सादयाथः ॥५२॥

yád akṣéṣu vádā yát sámityāṃ yád vā vádā ánr̥taṃ vittakāmyā́ |
samānáṃ tántum abhí samvásānau tásmint sárvaṃ śámalaṃ sādayāthaḥ ||52||

Какую неправду ты скажешь при игре в кости, какую в собрании
Или же какую ты скажешь из желания имущества —
Надевая на себя одинаковый покров,
Вы двое осаждаете на нем всю грязь.

Whatever thou may say at dice, in meeting, whatever falsehood
through desire of riches,
Ye two, about one common warp uniting, deposit all impurity
within it.

What falsehood thou shalt speak at play and in the assembly, or the falsehood that thou shalt speak through lust for gain — put on together, (O man and wife), this same garment, deposit upon it every blemish!

avś_12.003.53.

वर्षं॒ वनुष्वा॒पि गछ देवां॒स् त्वचो॒ धूमं॒ प॒र्य् उ॒त् पातयासि ।
विश्व॒व्यचा घृत॒पृष्ठो भविष्य॒न्त् स॒योनिर् लोक॒म् उ॒प याह्य् एत॒म् ॥५३॥

varṣáṃ vanuṣvā́pi gacha devā́ṃs tvacó dhūmáṃ páry út pātayāsi |
viśvávyacā ghr̥tápr̥ṣṭho bhaviṣyánt sáyonir lokám úpa yāhy etám ||53||

Вызови дождь! Отправляйся к богам!
Ты заставишь дым от шкуры летать кругом.
Собираясь стать всеобъемлющим, жирноспинным,
Ты, имеющий то же происхождение, отправляйся в этот мир!

Win thou the rain: approach the Gods. Around thee thou from
the skin shalt make the smoke rise upward.
Soon to be, decked with butter, all-embracing, come to this
world wherewith one birth unites thee.

Produce rain, go to the gods, let smoke arise from (thy) surface; all-embracing, about to be covered with ghee, enter as a co-dweller this place!

avś_12.003.54.

तन्वं॑ स्वर्गो॒ बहुधा॒ वि॒ चक्रे य॒था विद॒ आत्म॒न्न् अन्य॒वर्णाम् ।
अ॒पाजैत् कृष्णां॒ रु॒शतीं पुनानो॒ या॒ लो॒हिनी तां॒ ते अग्नौ॒ जुहोमि ॥५४॥

tanvàṃ svargó bahudhā́ ví cakre yáthā vidá ātmánn anyávarṇām |
ápājait kr̥ṣṇā́ṃ rúśatīṃ punānó yā́ lóhinī tā́ṃ te agnáu juhomi ||54||

Идущий на небо много раз сменил тело,
Поскольку он находит в себе (тело) другого цвета.
Он победил черное (тело), очищая сверкающее.
(То), что красное, его мы тебе жертвуем в огонь.

In many a shape hath heaven transformed its body, as in itself
is known, of varied eolour.
Cleansing the bright, the dark form hath it banished: the red
form in the fire to thee I offer.

In many ways heaven assumes within itself a different form, according to circumstances. It (the heaven) has laid aside its black form, purifying itself to a bright (form); the red form do I sacrifice fot thee into the fire.

avś_12.003.55.

प्रा॒च्यै त्वा दिशे॑ ऽग्न॒ये॒ ऽधिपतये ऽसिता॒य रक्षित्र॒ आदित्या॒ये॒षुमते ।
एतं॒ प॒रि दद्मस् तं॒ नो गोपायता॒स्मा॒कम् ऐ॒तोः ।
दिष्टं॒ नो अ॒त्र जर॒से नि॒ नेषज् जरा॒ मृत्य॒वे प॒रि णो ददात्व् अ॒थ पक्वे॒न सह॒ सं॒ भवेम ॥५५॥

prā́cyai tvā diśè 'gnáyé 'dhipataye 'sitā́ya rakṣitrá ādityā́yéṣumate |
etáṃ pári dadmas táṃ no gopāyatā́smā́kam áitoḥ |
diṣṭáṃ no átra jaráse ní neṣaj jarā́ mr̥tyáve pári ṇo dadātv átha pakvéna sahá sáṃ bhavema ||55||

To the eastern region, to Agni the Regent, to Asita the Protector,
Āditya the Archer, we present thee, this offering of ours. Do
ye preserve it from aggression
To full old age may Destiny conduct us; may full old age deliver
us to Mrityu. Then may we be with our prepared oblation.

Thee here we hand over to the eastern direction, to Agni as sovereign lord, to the black serpent as guardian, to Āditya as bowman: do ye guard it for us, until we arrive! To the goal here he shall lead us, to old age; old age shall hand us over to death: then shall we be united with the cooked (porridge)!

avś_12.003.56.

द॒क्षिणायै त्वा दिश॒ इ॒न्द्राया॒धिपतये ति॒रश्चिराजये रक्षित्रे॒ यमा॒ये॒षुमते ।
एतं॒ प॒रि दद्मस् तं॒ नो गोपायता॒स्मा॒कम् ऐ॒तोः ।
दिष्टं॒ नो अ॒त्र जर॒से नि॒ नेषज् जरा॒ मृत्य॒वे प॒रि णो ददात्व् अ॒थ पक्वे॒न सह॒ सं॒ भवेम ॥५६॥

dákṣiṇāyai tvā diśá índrāyā́dhipataye tíraścirājaye rakṣitré yamā́yéṣumate |
etáṃ pári dadmas táṃ no gopāyatā́smā́kam áitoḥ |
diṣṭáṃ no átra jaráse ní neṣaj jarā́ mr̥tyáve pári ṇo dadātv átha pakvéna sahá sáṃ bhavema ||56||

Южной стороне, Индре-повелителю, полосатому (змею) — защитнику, Яме, снабженному стрелами, тебя такого мы отдаем.
Храните его для нас до нашего прихода!
Пусть он здесь доведет до старости предназначенный нам (срок жизни)!
Пусть старость вручит нас смерти!

To the southern region, to Indra the Regent, to Tiraschirāji the
Protector, to Yama the Archer, we present, etc. (as in stanza

Thee here we hand over to the southern direction, to Indra as sovereign lord, to the serpent that is striped across as guardian, to Yama as bowman: do ye guard it for us, until we arrive! To the goal here, &c.

प्रती॒च्यै त्वा दिशे॒ व॒रुणाया॒धिपतये पृ॒दाकवे रक्षित्रे॒ ऽन्नाये॒षुमते ।

Thee here we hand over to the western direction, to Varuna as sovereign lord, to the pridāku-serpent as guardian, to food as bowman: do ye guard it for us, until we arrive. To the goal here, &c.

उ॒दीच्यै त्वा दिशे॒ सो॒माया॒धिपतये स्वजा॒य रक्षित्रे॒ ऽश॒न्या इ॒षुमत्यै ।

Thee here we hand over to the northern direction, to Soma as sovereign lord, to the svaga-serpent as guardian, to the lightning as bowman: do ye guard it for us, until we arrive. To the goal here, &c.

ध्रुवा॒यै त्वा दिशे॒ वि॒ष्णवे॒ ऽधिपतये कल्मा॒षग्रीवाय रक्षित्र॒ ओ॒षधीभ्य इ॒षुमतीभ्यः ।
एतं॒ प॒रि दद्मस् तं॒ नो गोपायता॒स्मा॒कम् ऐ॒तोः ।
दिष्टं॒ नो अ॒त्र जर॒से नि॒ नेषज् जरा॒ मृत्य॒वे प॒रि णो ददात्व् अ॒थ पक्वे॒न सह॒ सं॒ भवेम ॥५९॥

dhruvā́yai tvā diśé víṣṇavé 'dhipataye kalmā́ṣagrīvāya rakṣitrá óṣadhībhya íṣumatībhyaḥ |

ऊर्ध्वा॒यै त्वा दिशे॒ बृ॒हस्प॒तये॒ ऽधिपतये श्वित्रा॒य रक्षित्रे॒ वर्षा॒ये॒षुमते ।
एतं॒ प॒रि दद्मस् तं॒ नो गोपायता॒स्मा॒कम् ऐ॒तोः ।
दिष्टं॒ नो अ॒त्र जर॒से नि॒ नेषज् जरा॒ मृत्य॒वे प॒रि णो ददात्व् अ॒थ पक्वे॒न सह॒ सं॒ भवेम ॥६०॥ {१८}
