क॒न्या॒३॒॑ वार॑वाय॒ती सोम॒मपि॑ स्रु॒तावि॑दत्। अस्तं॒ भर॑न्त्यब्रवी॒दिन्द्रा॑य सुनवै त्वा श॒क्राय॑ सुनवै त्वा॥
kanyā vār avāyatī somam api srutāvidat |
astam bharanty abravīd indrāya sunavai tvā śakrāya sunavai tvā ||

Ein Mädchen, das hinab zum Wasser ging, hat am Wege Soma gefunden. Während sie ihn nach Hause trug, sprach sie: "Ich will dich für Indra auspressen, für den Mächtigen dich auspressen." Apala:
DOWN to the stream a maiden came, and found the Soma by the way. Bearing it to her home she said, For Indra will I press thee out, for Sakra will I press thee out.

अ॒सौ य एषि॑ वीर॒को गृ॒हंगृ॑हं वि॒चाक॑शद्। इ॒मं जम्भ॑सुतं पिब धा॒नाव॑न्तं कर॒म्भिण॑मपू॒पव॑न्तमु॒क्थिन॑म्॥
asau ya eṣi vīrako gṛhaṃ-gṛhaṃ vicākaśad |
imaṃ jambhasutam piba dhānāvantaṃ karambhiṇam apūpavantam ukthinam ||

"Du Männlein, das da Haus für Haus beobachtend geht, trink diesen mit den Zähnen Ausgepreßten, zu dem es Körner, Brei, Kuchen und ein Loblied gibt!
Thou roaming yonder, little man, beholding every house in turn, Drink thou this Soma pressed with teeth, accompanied with grain and curds, with cake of meal and song of praise.

आ च॒न त्वा॑ चिकित्सा॒मोऽधि॑ च॒न त्वा॒ नेम॑सि। शनै॑रिव शन॒कैरि॒वेन्द्रा॑येन्दो॒ परि॑ स्रव॥
ā cana tvā cikitsāmo 'dhi cana tvā nemasi |
śanair iva śanakair ivendrāyendo pari srava ||

"Wir möchten dich zwar nicht verstehen und doch mißverstehen wir dich nicht. Etwas sachte, etwas mehr sachte fließe, du Saft, für Indra ab!
Fain would we learn to know thee well, nor yet can we attain to thee. Still slowly and in gradual drops, O Indu, unto Indra flow.

कु॒विच्छक॑त्कु॒वित्कर॑त्कु॒विन्नो॒ वस्य॑स॒स्कर॑त्। कु॒वित्प॑ति॒द्विषो॑ य॒तीरिन्द्रे॑ण सं॒गमा॑महै॥
kuvic chakat kuvit karat kuvin no vasyasas karat |
kuvit patidviṣo yatīr indreṇa saṃgamāmahai ||

"Gewiß wird er es können, gewiß wird er es tun, gewiß wird er uns glücklicher machen. Gewiß dürfen wir, die wir vom Gatten gehaßt leben, uns mit Indra vereinen.
Will he not help and work for us? Will he not make us wealthier? Shall we not, hostile to our lord, unite ourselves to Indra now?

इ॒मानि॒ त्रीणि॑ वि॒ष्टपा॒ तानी॑न्द्र॒ वि रो॑हय। शिर॑स्त॒तस्यो॒र्वरा॒मादि॒दं म॒ उपो॒दरे॑॥
imāni trīṇi viṣṭapā tānīndra vi rohaya |
śiras tatasyorvarām ād idam ma upodare ||

"Diese drei Flächen, die laß sprossen, Indra: Das Haupt und das Saatfeld meines Väterchens und dieses hier auf meinem Leibe!
O Indra, cause to sprout again three places, these which I declare,- My father's head, his cultured field, and this the part below my waist.

अ॒सौ च॒ या न॑ उ॒र्वरादि॒मां त॒न्वं१॒॑ मम॑। अथो॑ त॒तस्य॒ यच्छिरः॒ सर्वा॒ ता रो॑म॒शा कृ॑धि॥
asau ca yā na urvarād imāṃ tanvam mama |
atho tatasya yac chiraḥ sarvā tā romaśā kṛdhi ||

Dort unser Saatfeld und diesen meinen Leib und das Haupt meines Väterchens, all diese mache behaart!"
Make all of these grow crops of hair, you cultivated field of ours, My body, and my father's head.

खे रथ॑स्य॒ खेऽन॑सः॒ खे यु॒गस्य॑ शतक्रतो। अ॒पा॒लामि॑न्द्र॒ त्रिष्पू॒त्व्यकृ॑णोः॒ सूर्य॑त्वचम्॥
khe rathasya khe 'nasaḥ khe yugasya śatakrato |
apālām indra triṣ pūtvy akṛṇoḥ sūryatvacam ||

In dem Nabenloch des Streitwagens, in dem Nabenloch des Karrens, in des Joches Loche hast du ratreicher Indra die Apala dreimal gereinigt und ihr eine sonnengleiche Haut gegeben.
Cleansing Apala, Indra! thrice, thou gavest sunlike skin to her, Drawn, Satakratu! through the hole of car, of wagon, and of yoke.
